Savings Account for children in tax bill
TylerDurden replied to headshuck's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
If I were a person who was having a child in the next four years, I'd rather have this. I'm actually all for Freakonomics-adjacent incentives - though I don't think we need to incentivize having babies and I'm not sure this is enough of an incentive to the end, regardless. I know it wouldn't be for me. -

The President should not have any more power with the budget. We have three branches for a reason, though they're admittedly on shaky ground. Presidents have enough power with the veto. I'm not sure why you'd support concentrating power.

You're citing the JEC Republican report that came out 15 years ago and was essentially trying to draw connections between the auto bailout (which Bush started) to Obama and continue this idea that it was reckless Democratic spending. https://goliards.us/adelphi/deficits/ You can't let AI do the work for you without reading the information. 75% of largest increases in our country's history have been under either Republican majorities in the Senate and/or in the White House. The other one is a clean up of the housing market crash.

But which would you rather have, this or an extra $1,000 tax deduction for kids born 25 thru 28?

Brother, the whole thing was a joke. I was more so commenting on the fact that Sadulaev is obviously a Muslim, not a Christian. I'm sorry you missed this. -
Savings Account for children in tax bill
TylerDurden replied to headshuck's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Back to the topic. This idea isn't all that bad - aside from the fact it's assuredly not paid for by anything in the bill and would simply add to the annual deficit and the long term debt. But I'm pretty sure we only care about that sort of thing when your favorite political party isn't in power, so we'll just skip over that for now. These sort of custodial accounts already exist (in a more tax-advantaged form) - I have them for my kid. One difference is that I wasn't given seed money for it. They certainly aren't going to grow enough from $1,000 (if you don't/can't invest more) to pay for college, but I wouldn't turn it down simply because it won't cover the entire cost of something. Simple estimates show that you might end up with a little less than a $6,000 return if you average 10% return on the original investment. The devil is in the details, of course, and this particular item has a 5-year window for children born from December 31, 2024 - January 1, 2029. Interpret that timeline as you like. There's also a $5,000 annual contribution limit and 18 is the age of maturity, with a mandatory payout at 31. It also appears that there is not up-front deduction like you'd see from a 529. Those details tell me that this isn't likely to have a huge impact on the people who would need it the most, but gives another tax-preferred vehicle (even if it has fewer tax benefits) for folks who would already be able to fund the similar accounts that already exist, but gives them $1,000 to have a baby. I don't hate it, but it's largely political theater. -

A couple things: The rule reads "contests or dates of competition", so two duals in aa single day probably counts as two. The rule: 12.8.4 Hardship Waiver. A student-athlete may be granted an additional year of competition by the conference or the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement for reasons of "hardship." Hardship is defined as an incapacity resulting from an injury or illness that has occurred under all of the following conditions: (Revised: 1/10/92 effective 8/1/92, 1/14/97, 8/1/97, 4/26/01 effective 8/1/01, 11/1/01, 4/3/02, 8/8/02, 3/10/04, 5/11/05, 9/18/07, 11/1/07 effective 8/1/08, 4/24/08, 7/31/14, 6/30/22 effective 8/1/22 for injuries and illnesses occurring on or after 8/1/22) (a) The incapacitating injury or illness occurs in one of the four seasons of intercollegiate competition at any two-year or four year collegiate institutions or occurs after the first day of classes in the student-athlete's senior year in high school; (b) The injury or illness occurs before the first contest or date of competition of the second half of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship in that sport and results in incapacity to compete for the remainder of that playing season; and (c) The injury or illness occurs when the student-athlete has not participated in more than three contests or dates of competition or 30 percent of the maximum number of contests or dates of competition of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship as set forth in Bylaw 17 for the applicable sport plus one contest or date of competition, whichever is greater. 12.8.4.1 Administration of Hardship Waiver. The hardship waiver shall be administered by the member conferences or, in the case of an independent member institution, by the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. (Revised: 10/28/04, 4/20/09, 7/31/14) 12.8.4.1.1 Review of Denied Waiver. An institution may submit a denied hardship waiver to the Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement. The committee shall have the authority to review and determine whether to approve the waiver based on circumstances that may warrant relief from the application of the legislated waiver criteria. (Adopted: 4/20/09, Revised: 7/31/14) 12.8.4.2.3 First Half and 30 Percent of Season Denominator. The denominator used to determine the first half and 30 percent of a season is the maximum number of contests or dates of competition of the playing season that concludes with the NCAA championship as set forth in Bylaw 17 for the applicable sport plus one contest or date of competition (see Figure 12-1). (Revised: 6/30/22 effective 8/1/22 for injuries and illnesses occurring on or after 8/1/22) -

A Closer Look at Northwestern's Recruiting Class of 2026
InterMat Staff posted an article in Recruiting
With the high school Class of 2025 largely ready to graduate, it’s about time to look ahead to the next recruiting classes. In turning my attention to the Class of 2026, I noticed one school has been putting together an excellent recruiting class, if not a bit under the radar. That class grew yesterday as they received their fifth commit from a Class of 2026 Big Boarder. Northwestern has had a rough couple of years with a handful of injuries and a 14th-place finish at the 2024 Big Ten Championships, followed by a 12th-place finish in 2025. In Philadelphia, the Wildcats crowned their first All-American in two seasons as Trevor Chumbley had an improbable run to the NCAA semifinals, before settling into fourth place. The momentum generated by Chumbley’s postseason and a solid Class of 2025, followed by what looks like a great Class of 2026, could be the spark that head coach Matt Storniolo needs to consistently stay in the top half of the conference. Let’s look more closely at the group that Storniolo has waiting in the wings in the Class of 2026. #25 Ryder Wilder (GA), #29 Will Detar (PA), #68 Jaxon Miller (IA), #73 Peter Snyder (MD), and the most recent addition #154 Trayvn Boger (UT). Storniolo and staff have obviously been looking to improve the back half of their lineup as Boger projects as a heavyweight and Snyder/Wilder could be 184/197, while Miller could go 174/184. Looking into the accolades for each of Northwestern’s current commits, Wilder has a long list of high-level credentials. He’s won the NHSCA grade-level tournament as a freshman and junior. Last spring, he was third in both styles at the UWW U17 Trials and he finished top three in both styles in Fargo in 2023. Detar recently locked up a spot on the U17 World Team in Greco-Roman. He’s placed four times at the 16U age group in Fargo with a national title in both styles. Detar will be chasing his first PA state title as a senior, but has finished top-three in each of his first three seasons. Jaxon Miller won his first Iowa 3A state title this year after making the finals as a sophomore. He was a champion at Preseason Nationals last year and fourth in 16U Greco-Roman in Fargo a few months before that. Peter Snyder was seventh in Junior freestyle heading into his junior year of high school. After that, he was eighth at the Ironman and made the Beast finals. Boger was a member of the 2024 U17 World Team in Greco a year after falling in the Trials finals. During the high school season, Boger was a finalist at the Doc Buchanan and fifth at the Ironman. In 2023, Boger was seventh in both styles in Fargo at the 16U age group. I’m sure that Storniolo and staff are not done with the Class of 2026 recruiting, but this is an excellent start. The Wildcats Class of 2025 was recently tabbed 25th in the nation in MatScouts Recruiting Rankings (InterMat’s will be coming in the next few weeks). That class includes #31 Billy Dekraker (VA), #166 Alex Smith (FL), and #226 Anthony Rinehart (IN). For all of Northwestern’s current recruits from the Class of 2025 and 2026: Click Here - Today

If you think Sadulaev is a Christian I have beachfront property in Missouri I'd like to sell you. -
FCA is fellowship of Christian athletes. Snyder had a whole ministry to traveling to put on various camps that taught children how to live a God honoring life and teach them wrestling. Hence the hypocrisy.

I cannot tell a lie. I cannot ask my wife for oral. I have once (maybe twice but the second had to be in jest) with no success. Woe is me. Did I just prostrate myself? Is there something in that wedding cake? -
There is no reason to believe that he sought out an underage girl. The problem is that he is signing up to hire someone that could be an underage victim of sex trafficking. It’s not like Kyle was going to ask the gal for her ID to validate her age and run a background check on her to make sure that she was not a victim of trafficking.

Just because stories are in the Bible doesn't mean it is condoned. What he did is a sin. It is not my nor your place to judge him. It is up to his wife/family to forgive or not. Not of our business. And his final judgment will come from above.
