  1. Does anyone else think Uber eats, doordash, etc, have completely ruined food delivery? Not so long ago, we could get pizza, chinese food, and sushi delivered for about a 2 dollar fee (sometimes no fee at all) and then 5 dollar delivery tip. Now you are paying at least 15-20 dollars extra for every delivery when you factor in the higher prices that are in the app, the fees, and the tip.
  2. This is true if you ignore the existence of Tom Brands.
  3. Yeah, like that Iowa wrestler Dan Gable.
  4. If you assume everyone listed as a senior has at least two years of eligibility remaining, you will usually be right.
  5. He is one of maybe three people who could bring Iowa back to what it should be.
  6. This doesn’t even account for the transfers that will come in. It’s premature to think there’s going to be a logjam because we don’t even have results from NCAAs. History tells us that anyone who isn’t a top 5 or so AA is likely to be replaced by a better recruit or transfer. That’s just how PSU operates-perform or leave. I don’t see why he is likely to be in the lineup again unless he has made huge strides behind the scenes. Why move Mesenbrink up or down? He’s at the perfect weight for his long term goals.
  7. I think that’s because or the Astrodome. I don’t think the Houston Astros are the supplier of artificial turf. Maybe I’m wrong though.
  8. Many pointed out how risky the decision was and how being a great wrestler is far from a guarantee of success in MMA. But yes, the MMA fans were happy to see a 19-year-old give up on college or olympic athletics to fight in the minor leagues of MMA.
  9. There was a lot of talk/reports at the time of Pico/his family agreeing to some really awful contracts, where their training was being paid for with the expectation that he'd go to MMA eventually. Who knows how true that was or how much pressure was put on him for the decision. What's obvious in retrospect is that the decision was a terrible one career-wise. Here's an example that covers that contract a bit. https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/whittier-teen-has-olympic-dream-contract-with-mma-league/
  10. It’s strange and I’ve never seen it for any other sport (who makes basketball courts? I have no clue).
  11. That is the new standard. 4-5 AAs is a good year. 6-7 with a team trophy is a great year. Maybe an NCAA champion every 5 years or so.
  12. They have to skip 165 because that’s the match that shows how foolish they are to continue to rank Messsbrink 7th. Maybe if we are lucky they will move him to 6th now.
  13. If the unfinished senior season of Seth Lugo is the best example of “Iowa trained,” these days, that is a problem. At one point this same coach turned a couple under the radar transfers from Blacksburg Virginia into NCAA champions. Now he’s plugging in blood round/low AA transfers to replace other bloodhound level guys who also happened to have a gambling problem.
  14. The intercept is not close to a reliable source, especially when it comes to speculation about US Foreign policy. So unless you have a better source than that for the US supporting a coup in Pakistan, you might as well be quoting infowars (they’re kind of like the liberal version of infowars).
  15. Correct, not that bad because the expectations have changed. Nebraska football can’t complain that they aren’t winning the big 8 every year anymore. This was a good performance given the state of the program.
  16. He got demolished in CHA. It’s where he should perform the best. The only reason these two wrestlers are considered remotely on the same level is the absolute joke that is the rankings at this weight not having MM top 3. There are two athletes at this weight who might bear Mesenbink. And only one of them is in the state of Iowa.
  17. The fact that he’s still in bellator after 7 years speaks to how disappointing his mma career has been. He might not have been a 4 timer, but he was better than Retherford. It’s not out of the question that he could have done it.
  18. The traditional programs like OSU, tOSU, Minnesota (maybe they don’t belong in this group) and Iowa all are relative to what they have previously expected. Maybe Iowa state can be considered in that group as well, but they are heading in the right direction. Programs like Cornell, Princeton, Missouri, and NC State have been over-performing what’s expected.

  20. The Pico haters ignore how good he was at such a young age and what the sport lost by him becoming lower-tier MMA fighter. Not only did he have Retherford's number, but he also was very close to making the Olympic team at 19. He also had multiple junior world medals at a time when those were harder to come by for USA wrestlers.
  21. PSU gets the best recruits, best transfers, and they also are the best at developing wrestlers. I don't think they will consider passing a year again unless something significant changes in the landscape.
  22. What happens to businesses that lose money (with the exception of Tesla)?
  23. The transfers definitely make the dual matches more difficult to get into and mask coaching deficiencies. Some of these programs can barely develop their own wrestlers.
  24. That makes zero sense because you need money for insurance, travel, scholarships, putting on events, paying coaches, etc. Every wrestling program loses money. This type of thinking is fantasy land cognitive dissonance. NCAA wrestling must be saved or there is no more college wrestling as we know and appreciate it.
  25. Something needs to change.
