WrestlingRasta replied to Scouts Honor's topic in Non Wrestling Topics
Ahhhhhh yes I love “I hate the media” day. Just wait till tomorrow… (or maybe a half hour) -
We have likely rubbed amongst the same shoulders back in the day. Great story! And Bill is a good dude.

All very valid -
It wasn’t strikes down so much as stayed. Brought to a halt for 14 days so they can have their hearings.

What Burroughs and to a large extent Snyder have done in Stars and Stripes, in the modern ‘competitive climate’..Post-Soviet, International Free Agency) carries a lot of weight for me. In the John Smith days you had a group of three or four Russians training together for the purpose of that one guy beating Smith. In the Burroughs days you have the same group of Russians training together, but they all got a shot at him in the bracket. Not to downplay anything or anyone, but these are fun talks of picking straws, and that’s a pretty big straw. -

As a bonus it stopped the streak.

Do they have just as ‘good’ a chance to having no one in the finals, as they do in having a champ?

So….you were of that same stance the previous few years?……..interesting. (Please don’t say yes you were, the proof is in the pudding)

I don’t like the guy either. But I’m kind of a fan of freedom of speech. Particularly in a forum where one can make the choice to put another on ignore so they don’t have to see those comments. True, “don’t tread on me” Patriots should agree….don’t you think? But I do have one question regarding your proposal…does that only include comments about the current President? Or are you encompassing all politicians that are discussed on this board. I don’t recall if you were making a similar regarding the President a year ago?

Maurice Cheeks is Class Personified

Love it. I remember this. -
I'm not disagreeing with the decision, I'm also not one to pretend to know more about a situation than those directly involved......I'm talking about the importance of having rules and following them, especially in the area of weight cutting where kids have died.
-
I completely agree. Which is why I believe every rule needs to be followed. How 'trivial' a rule is, is usually nothing more than opinion. And in many cases, it is an uninformed opinion (or at least one not given a lot of thought) Example: covid. When sports resumed a lot of fuss was made about some rules like not shaking hands after, or players not swapping jerseys after. Why can they be in contact, but not take part in these? And it is a very good question, one that should be explored rather than just cast off as stupid, without given much thought. And the answer is (was)......I was responsible for getting athletics back up and running in my area, and this is the thought process..... In order to get competition back on line, we had to eliminate all contacts that were not necessary to execute the competition (game, match, whatever). And while not shaking hands after, and not exchanging jerseys after, certainly seem silly on the surface, they are in fact contacts that are not at all necessary to execute the competition, so they had to go. Just one example.

A good example of why I don't visit the wrestling forums all that much. I get my nonsense on the nonsense forum. Have hope for a little more mature conversation in these parts.

The weigh in regulations were put into place because young men died. Having wrestlers alive is good for the sport. When we start opening the door of, well what does this rule really matter anyway........it's a slippery slope. Additionally, if everyone else is following the rule, why do we not hold all of these men and young men responsible for the rule. A title wouldn't be cheapened in any way.....they did what they were supposed to do. Managing your weight in a manner that you are prepared to compete is in fact a function of this sport.

There are nine tells, and what it tells us is that in not one single one of them do the majority of Americans predominantly agree with the way things are being handled. Not even close. But there’s plenty of time for those numbers to go up. I sure hope they do. I kinda like our country, no matter who’s in charge.

In a weird way, he and Regan while very different; reminded me of each other.

The list is long and filled with both Republicans and Democrats. It’s okay.

I'm sorry if I caused confusion, there were no pardons for those rightfully convicted in the 2020 BLM riots. Again, sorry to cause confusion. The proper question to be asking is... is breaking the law on private property different than breaking the law on public property. But I realize that doesn't get us all tingly inside.
-
When dealing with numbers/percentages....I just go by the standard definition rather than make up my own, which is more than half. Like I said we could all mince and parce words to fit our own little warm fuzzies, however in the case of the last election, neither of the candidates received votes from half of Americans, nor half of those who voted for President in this election. It's okay, it's okay.....it's not the first time the winner hasn't received the majority. It's just the facts of the matter. I never said I didn't like the saying, I was just pointing out how some really, really do. But to be honest, I was hoping more for a whackadoodle, that one seems to really get the juices flowin.

Both can be, and are, true. Trump won by what is termed as a landslide through the electoral college. Trump also did not receive the majority of votes from Americans, defeating Harris by 1%. Both picking at straws to hit your respective warm fuzzies, but I’m glad we got the opportunity for that “mental gymnastics” fix.
