  1. Judging by the product they put of the mat, I can't disagree. But, real question: How, practically, did Perry "influence" the team? Like, were stall strategies consciously built into the training? Or, did this style slowly spread, unnoticed / unacknowledged until we got Fix? Just leached out from (sucked-out) Scott, Morrison (at times), (sucked-out) Oliver, Kindig, Parks, Perry, Heil, etc until smart wrestling morphed into cautious wrestling, then hesitance, and ultimately what looked like crushing self-dount?
  2. Re Fix: I was looking out the window, and the landscapers were mowing. It had to be 100+. I started thinking about what could possibly get me out of the AC. Watching the Fix/Suriano again came to mind.
  3. Yeah, but I suppose Good Morning Vietnam, CYE, and slagging Daton Fix have fallen out of style
  4. It's hot! Damn hot! Real hot! Hottest things is my shorts! I could cook things in it! A little crotch pot cooking! I can't bring myself to go outside, but there are dogs to walk, errands to run, chores to do. Then, eureka, I found a fix: three matches that will make bursting into flames sound pretty, pretty, pretty good. I challenge all to watch all three in one go. If you can't, tell me when you tap out and grab the weed-eater.
  5. I see a couple of "under-the-radar types" with some really solid wins, Senati in particular. Seems like he has been hurt on and off but got some high-level upsets nonetheless.
  6. Word. Question: I know Nickerson was hired in June of last year, so which of these new guys are his guys?
  7. When do you think Desanto, Bartlett, and Robideau knew they wouldn't be wrestling?
  8. I was thinking the same. Out high school, he couldnt have commanded much. Which leads to the question: Would he have transferred for that huge bag of cash?
  9. Rimshot. I can't tell how much of you is real and how much is meta.
  10. Interesting take. Why do you say this? (My take: In neutral, he looks like he has the same game plan/technical problem/mental block that JO and Chris Perry had.)
  11. Oh yeah? Is that the 5 in 5 thing? Shows you how much I keep up with the news. My bad.
  12. PS: why do you have such strong, condescending reactions to my takes on a team we are both fans of? I am worried that Vega might have a more difficult time at 149, and I offered a couple of reasons why. It's not a crazy opinion. Others in the thread have said the same. But I'm the one you call out as absurd. I guess this hurts my feelings. . . at least as much as feel8ngs can get hurt by strangers on a message board.
  13. Two small things :20 - :30: Vega does not look sure-footed. He stumbles and at one point gets snapped to his hip. This did not inspire confidence 2:00: classic Vega defense but at the time I didnt know. If you did, bully you. Eche's outside steps promised some sort of successful scoring opportunity later in the match ... and about 6:00 he had Vega in danger. In hindsight, it might be obvious that Vega lives in those situations. But at the time, I did not know this. Again, if you did, congrats. Re fits: if you cant see any of what I see, the score indicates that Vega musta had some issue.
  14. Ill take the provocation and ask one question: Who did you think was going to win after the first period of the first Eche match?
  15. Sorry ... timed out of my edit: I just looked it up Van Ness and Valencia are listed as the same height as Eche. 8 more pounds of muscle concerns me. Jaxon Joy is listed at 6' ... an inch taller than what Vega is listed ... plus the 8 pounds. Again, this concerns me. Then again, Vega always figured out a way to win. No reason to think he can't do it again. Im sure he will, but it might take longer than 6 months. Idk? what can I say? I'm worried that he wont be strong enough or he'll get thicker/stronger and lose his flexibility
  16. Come on. You know that I'm in the bag for OSU, but Eche gave him fits, esp in that first match. Eche pushed him all over the mat, so much so that Vega kept stumbling.
  17. Vega should red-shirt. His issues w/ Eche make me worried about how he'll handle taller versions at 49. Maybe take a page from Taylor's playbook .. If Im remembering correctly in high school Taylor didnt wrestle the "off season" and instead worked on strength training when he jumped from 119 (?) to 135 (?). But, I dont think one summer will be enough at the DI level
  18. I can't in conscience stand by while the board blasphemes the kykeon. Bicycle day approaches: Repent!
  19. Ok. Again IDK the answer to this, but how would it build its data set? If I had to guess, it would just pull from the sources that readers of this board are completely familiar with ... including posts from this board. The what? Compare the expressions of awe associated with each wrestler? It's not like there's numbers to crunch.
  20. Real question: why did you ask it the question? what did you hope to gain?
  21. For one, Imar wouldnt be able to bully him.
  22. That call has skewed our appreciation of Robideau. If he comes out next year with a chip on his shoulder, we'll know why. Edit: crazy how a tournament where he notched two get-backs, beat the heavy favorite, and won the title has hurt his reputation.
  23. I forgot I posted that and regret it. Dude has made an important realization about the ephemeral nature of success, fame, glory ... life and shouldn't be mocked for his inability to put this realization into coherent prose. It's f*ck8ng hard to do for professional academics. He's majoring in wrestling. Apologies.
