  1. Their top work was just as scary: Saitiev with that "west point" and Batirov with that modified tulsa-ride-lookin' gut thing, known in medical circles as the "labrum-ectomy." Brutal.
  2. Obviously saitiev could be as technical as he wanted to be, e.g. vs Fundora where he footsweeps his ass to his back and then gets up and dances the chechnuri. But, he just as often was like f-it, dived in on a leg, and figured it out from there, e.g. the second period of the match vs the Cuban. Edit: I forgot how the crowd was straight up laughing at Fundora during the "chechnuri" sequence after the foot sweep.
  3. Watched it again for the first time since I saw it live. He actually shut down about 20 meters from the finish line. What's crazy is that he kept widening the gap even after he shut down.
  4. Yeah, magical golden tablet stories are absurd. However, I don't think an affliation with one religious sect or another has any bearing on one's intelligence. In fact, you can believe those stories and have a remarkable mind. People are complicated. Why not celebrate each other for having the wherewithal to find reasons for getting up everyday?
  5. Intellectual vanity is often a refuge of last resort for the powerless.
  6. Cliche-Accelerated-Neural-Sclerosis (known colloquially as "I refuse to take the time to come up with my own zings) is real too, it seems.
  7. Just reached the vid. You're right. I just hold a grudge against Lee re Cardinale.
  8. Word. That guy shut it down 5+ meters from the finish line to start celebrating and still smashed the world record.
  9. I have his reoccurring dream in which M. Batirov beats the shit out of me. The dream always replays some version of the eye-gouge sequence in the Abas Olympic final (@3:30 in the vid below) with me in the role of Gloucester ... " Out vile jelly!" I don't think there' s any reason to summon a medium to get Jung or Lacan on the line as the meaning is pretty clear: I had a diminutive but savage step- dad -- yada yada yada -- years of self- loathing ensue. Any way, I have a question: If this Abas / Batirov match happened outside a bar at 2 am in street clothes, who much time do you think Batirov would have served? He messed that dude up. Ps if any of you have a link to the full match, could you post it? I need closure so I can get rid of this dream.
  10. I totally missed this. But, yeah Burroughs can be as guilty as the next guy.
  11. Nm Edit: Saitiev the Younger had the same build as Girl at and Hall: super-long torso and short legs.
  12. One of my daughters is dealing with some body-image issues, and this post got me thinking: Wrestlers are pretty ruthless when it comes to judging the size and shape of each other, e.g. we just called the 285s "fatties," the 118s "midgets," that one tall, skinny kid "stick," etc. But, it seems like we just shrugged it off. I don't know of any teammates who were/are haunted by the taunts. What are your experiences? Are there a bunch of kids hurting in silence? Or, are wrestlers generally more calloused?
  13. Well, it's more or less the same point made about great leaders in Henry, IV p. 1 and 2. I think that guy said some other smart things about statecraft, too.
  14. Steve Albini once said something like "One prerequisite for holding any public office ought to be documented proof that the candidate has taken psychedelic drugs." I kinda get it. I don't trust people like Lee. They seem to be missing out on lots of quientessentially human experiences.
  15. What does the Miami Vice Crockett Bear mean? It's like MV = certain kinda 80s TV cool; Bear = cuddliness; leaning on car = indifference ... Waiting .. Posing ... Idk. My semiotics training is failing me on this one.
  16. My guess is that he didn't invent this shtick. How many football/b-ball guys have already done this?
  17. Idk. When they have to change the rules to beat you, you are doing something right.
  18. You're right. It totally looks like some bdsm dungeon stuff.
  19. As noted above, I don't know what these are for. Help the ignorant?
  20. My bad ... These were just questions for the board. (Snark understood)
  21. All true. But, I still think Lee protested too much by pretending that he didn't know his name.
  22. I loved this. Lee acted like Cardinals was so insignificant that he couldn't remember his name. BS. It bothered Lee that Cardinale didn't just concede after the two sets of backs in the first. Re context: Lee backed straight out of bounds. It was a textbook stall. Cardinale did seem to be motioning to the ref. Edit: Plus, I don't think this situation satisfies the "goes wrong" criteria. Lee -- if I'm remembering correctly -- didn't respond. He was satisfied to just hold pisition.
  23. Tangential questions: Would you rather get pinned in the NCAA finals or finish 3rd? What about getting teched or tech-decked in the finals? If you would rather get 3rd than be embarrassed in the finals, would it change your mind if you were able able to score some points other than from releases? What you Todrinked yourself?
