  1. Have you found the correct answer? 5 seems like a likely answer. Should break it up into the "modern" era vs the...less modern era. I mean, Indiana won one with 14 points. Spending just a few minutes, I see Iowa State won in 1933 with 4 qualifiers. 3 Champs and a DNP. OSU had 3 and a 3rd place finisher. They tied for the title. Still, just 7 weights, but 4 champs and they were team champs. So that'd seem to be the right answer. Going post 1972(When Freshmen were eligible to compete) 5 seems likely. Could have been a team that won in the early years with 3, but I found 4 and I was done looking.
  2. I cannot. It's pretty wild. It's a short list of brothers who'd have won World or Olympic Titles if not for FAMILY members blocking them! Saitiev? Adam won an Olympic title the one year Buvaisar lost to Slay and had a DNP(would have been allowed to Wrestle back to 3rd had the original Gold medalist popped right away)and the year or two prior he let Adam Wrestle 76KG at the WC. It's crazy enough that Saitiev couldn't MAKE the Russian team once or twice(I think twice) because he got knocked off by a countryman. Likely being the 2nd best in the world for a decade+ to your own brother is insane. I wonder if Terry Brands wouldn't have had the same Collegiate and Olympic success if he didn't have to cut as much weight? 26-4 as a Freshmen and gets beat out while Tom takes 4th. Then loses to Cross while Tom wins a Gold. As close to an American version of as I can think of.
  3. Is there a lot of "sincerity" there with LBJ? I suppose if that's your take...it wouldn't be the same coming from me!
  4. N0-THEY-HAVE-NOT! Never has team USA EVER been "just as guilty" as the shit Russia tried to pull. MAYBE East Germany, not the Russians. Maybe even the Soviets, but nobody has been busted on a level that even approaches the Russians. That's not a winning argument. "We've had people test dirty as well." And you went back to Marion Jones and again, an athlete not even participating in the sport anymore to help bolster your argument. You get they had a complex and state or the art State run program to HIDE the test results. If you test dirty in the US...you're just out. They didn't hide that runner Richardson's results despite the fact she was the best Women's runner and it a NON-PED and a matter of weeks and she would have been able to compete. No, she was just ruled ineligible. There are levels. Comparing the US or any other Country to Russia is just absurd.
  5. I don't need to do any googling. He was stripped of his position, it wasn't let by US Track and Field. That's as close to "top down" as you can get(which was initially directed toward Wrestling, but I guess you went with Fix and a tainted drink, Oliver and...an MMA guy who has nothing to do with this. That isn't even in the same stratosphere as the Russian federation. I mean, I was with you that the Russian athletes shouldn't all be banned, but now you're trying to conflate what Russia did...which was unprecedented with what the Russian Federation did. Who was helping these athletes from the US Olympic Committee cheat the testing? Tampering with the drug tests? Taking cheating to an unprecedented level? I think you're reaching...a LOT.
  6. -Not surprised -Sure you're the father? Will she need a booster seat in order to drive? Yeah, I know...something about, "hope things turn around for you," or "live your best life." The first sign your Daughter's wit either comes from her Mother, your standard for "stinging wit" is...well...low. Third option, we return to the milkman! Pretty sure he's called Freestyle the Women's sport. That was my introduction to LBJ. Just throwing that out of there out of nowhere. The only "real" Wrestling. Does beg the question why he's so interested in Folkstyle and Freestyle. Also...bit curious how he and the JackRabbit fella posted immediately after each other throughout the entire thread? LOL...seriously though, I'm just surprised people would defend this...almost kinda even LBJ. I don't know if he's serious or if this is just a "In Greco...." I actually thought of you yesterday when a Greco kid was riding, hit his head on the match and had to DQ. Anway, hope things turn around for you bud... And...uh...keep living your best life? That's the high brow wit we're looking for, no?
  7. Oliver was busted because he didn't get a TUE in time in 2017. Fix had his reduced from 4 to 1 because it was ruled an accidental ingestion. Marion Jones 2006 Kevin Randleman? Are you including just any and all athletes or did he test positive while training for the US Olympic team? You're going back 20 years and you came up with...a handful of individuals, several of whom were caught by the US rather than the US trying to cover for them. I think that kinda made my point more than yours...and I'm still kinda confused why you included Kevin Randleman, but in any event, this doesn't show a coordinated effort by the United States, it shows the opposite. The United States is testing these athletes and taking action. That's the exact opposite of Russia.
  8. It's to try and catch cheating and hand down a punishment to them, not everyone who's from the same Country. I'm obvious in the middle in terms of opinions here and Russia was unprecedented, I just can't justify banning them the next TWO Olympics based on that. We're going back to ~2010 for some of this stuff, so I just can't say no Russian athletes. I guess agree to disagree. Edit-Definitely good with them not competing under the Russian Flag or celebrating the Country at all, just the athletes who are clean or at least have tested clean.
  9. Great video. Thank you for posting that. Awesome coaching job by the Minnesota staff to keep everyone in it after such a brutal round and a couple things I didn't know. Hahn getting upset and coming all the way back to win 6 matches and the Nail in the Coffin, plus taking the Trophy around to all the Bars IN Iowa...hilarious!
  10. Touché. But then China shouldn't be allowed to send people, right? And North Korea? This list could get long. South Africa also wasn't allowing black athletes to represent the Country, correct? So that seems a little more directly correlated with the spirit of the games(or breaking it to be more accurate). There have been a lot of horrible regimes who've competed in the Olympics. I understand the other point of views and respect them, but I just think about the athletes who have absolutely nothing to do with decisions made by their leaders and I kinda take issue with the idea of these complete bans. They also diminish the games. Kyle Snyder winning Olympic Gold would mean a whole lot less(just one example and not my primary reason).
  11. Minnesota with 10 AAs and no Champs is noteworthy...in the "only wrong answers" type of way.
  12. I again don't think the Russian athletes should be banned, especially not for two more cycles, but what evidence do you have that the...USOC or USA Wrestling or anyone "at the top" is mandating the same type of widespread doping the Russians were caught doing? Or any illegal Performance enhancing program, coordinated effort or anything other than someone here or there. There may be some athletes who take Adderall that's grandfathered in yet, but I think the comparison in lieu of any evidence is a little wild. Russia was on a whole different level. It's like comparing a shop lifter to Bernie Madoff.
  13. You're going to have 18 year old athletes being penalized for things that were happening when they were born or had no control over. I'm fine with them not competing under the Russian Flag, but this seems a bit harsh.
  14. Ok, so they were allowed to compete the last cycle...these are findings from before most of the current athletes were competing. How many years later should they ban all the Russian athletes?
  15. Haven't heard that, but I listened to Anatoly not long ago talk about his life Wresting and it was a great video. The "Wrestling Changed my Life" podcast. Spent a while talking about the difference in how they train in the US vs Russia. Actually said a lot of people in Russia don't take it as seriously because they don't have the funding behind them. It was a little difficult to understand exactly when he was talking about because he mentioned how some private businessmen have come in and sponsored Wrestlers, but Putin doesn't fund the Wrestlers as much as the Olympic Sports which he qualified as Track and Field and something else. There was a little lost in translation, but it was a great interview. Didn't listen his brothers. Maybe it's in that one. Reminded me a bit of the Brands brothers in how he talked about not being able to train with his brother beyond just drilling because it'd end up in fights. Said a few things that were counter to what American's think, but talked about the emphasis on technique over physical training vs America where it's the other way around and how it forced the Russians to change things a bit. The brother is probably overlooked a bit because of the boycotts. It's not quite the same as, but it hurt the athletes and did little to "punish" either Nation in '80 or '84. Just stole opportunities from guys like Kemp in the '80s and the Russians in '84. There are enough people caught up in Putin's actions. I don't see why the athletes...who haven't tested dirty shouldn't be allowed to compete. We actually agree. If you're going to police who can compete in the Olympics based on their Countries behavior, just crown everyone from Switzerland now. Those are your Olympic Champions.
  16. I think the Mekhi Lewis win was a pretty big one. 1X Champ and very possibly a 2X Champ if not for the injury in '21. Again, beating a Bronze Medalist was pretty impressive. Ruth beat the same person you're referencing at least twice...though before he won it. I said I think you could make an argument for all 4. How does that end up being controversial? You're also quoting a response to a PSU fan stating Brooks was the best and that he won't get his credit, so if you've got an issue with that, take it up with him.
  17. Literally said this. I WAS however going off YOUR words; See, "set him off," and "lost his composure" are context clues. And the "to be fair...." and the 'this was the only time,' qualifiers suggest it wasn't the best possible behavior. Christ...is there anything you can't find a way to whine about?
  18. No...why don't you explain to me the reference or this great "joke" you made? And someone named Paul something who used a weight class in his screen name? Yup...you got it! Keep the gears grinding and I'm sure you'll get there. I'm not sure how I'M the one who got into the "pissing match" here other than by disagreeing with you...which you somehow took to be a personal affront. I remember someone like that posting on wiwrestling. His name was Ben something. Always right and ready to argue about anything. Interesting coincidence
  19. I know there was a belief Wisconsin had a good shot to land Angelo. I don't really have a clue about the whole family, but Bono had apparently spoke with the family, AJ. It's also hard to tell if that's coming from people who dislike Bono(it was painting as he was going after AJ because...he liked a post or something but mainly Angelo). No clue if they were the favorites and I am skeptical the school would let AJ Wrestle without...the grades and much more importantly, the court case playing out and in his favor like the Quintez Cephus case.
  20. Did he pull him off the mat WHILE he was wrestling? What happened here. That seems pretty wild...kinda the definition of what we were talking about with "toxic parents," but I don't know the extent of the details.
  21. Ok...Nickal always had the "dawg" in him. That seems like it'd be inferring one was tougher coming out vs the other. And yes, that brilliant "joke" about needing coach Cal more than Cael! Because they're almost spelled the same! Or maybe Taylor just needed to add weight to he wasn't losing to one of the most decorated American's and another world Champ in Dake...either way. Nickal's best win? And his losses were MUCH worse. Nate Jenkins? A loss to the 12 seed he avenged 4-3. Never said it was "unreasonable." I said I disagreed. And then you wondered why and now you're getting a bit sensitive about all of it. Kinda seems like you're the one who's suggesting it's "unreasonable" to go with Taylor.
  22. I could argue for all 4...pretty much any order. Ruth made it look so easy...effortless. Like he wasn't even trying almost. They'd all struggle to score on Brooks. I don't think Brooks is going to fail to get recognition. He's going to win 4 in 4 potentially and what seed was he as a Freshmen? A True Freshmen when he had one loss to Venz that he avenged at the B1Gs? A Bronze Medalist in his bracket...the only thing that might take some shine off Brooks 4th is Starocci's 4th and then that random loss to Coleman, but you're still talking about a kid on the precipice of being a 4X Champ. I think I'd still put DT right in that group with Brooks though. I don't think it's as simple as ranking them in groups among 3X, 4X or a 2X champ.
  23. My bad. Lost to Martin in the finals while Ruth got beaten by the kid from Stanford and Wrestled all the way back to 3rd. That was imperssive. Agreed. How about Starocci/Brooks vs Nickal/Ruth?
  24. Yeah, I don't know why this got the Jimmy Cinnabon treatment. It is a better comp. Nickal took a 3rd at '74 then spent 2 years at '84. Taylor took a 2nd at '57 and then wrestled '65. Ruth wrestled two years at '74 and two at '84.
