  1. Ha, I laughed out loud at that one. Your take is spot on. Which makes it even more confusing to me why Biden doesn’t clearly pick a side. By not doing so this hurts him…in my humble opinion.
  2. I guess people are just desperate to belong to something.
  3. Everything you need to know about these protests is right there.
  4. I hear they are really supportive of open debate and have a really active LGBTQ student population that gets a lot of support from the administration over there. Those kids should have a smooth transition.
  5. You may be right, time will tell. Personally, I would not like to see my kids go to an Ivy League institution. But I’ve felt this way long before recent events. The obsession with where you get your internship, what dorm you live in, are you hired by a blue chip company, and translating those things to status is a huge turn off to me. With recent events and how the student body has acted at protests, clearly with very few having real knowledge of Israel and the Palestinians, and openly targeting Jewish students, I would actively discourage my kids from going. I’d rather they attend a solid state school.
  6. Define plenty. You do realize the protest organizers are putting these Jewish students front and center.
  7. @uncle bernard Putting aside the issue of where one stands on this conflict, do you think the nature of some the protests have crossed any sort of line? Examples would be visibly Jewish students walking to class being accosted/surrounded and chanted at? Reports of protesters chanting “kill the Jews”. Occupying campus buildings, which are clearly against university policy. Are their ground rules for how a protest should be conducted? And consequences when those rules broken?
  8. I think one piece you are missing is donations. Don’t you think a lot of these mega donors will continue pulling out?
  9. Even with our renewed success, I think we have very few guys that can throw or are all that comfortable in upper body or counter positions leading to back exposure. The Russians hit these moves like it’s part of their regular arsenal. This is also true of Par terre but to a lesser extent. A guy like Dake is the outlier, he is uncharacteristically complete in a technical sense for a US wrestler. To me this seems like the biggest weakness in the “American style”. A quick four point exposure can often be the match. When you think about it, it’s pretty incredible how successful we are while neglecting such an important aspect of freestyle.
  10. Not quite an answer to the original question, but for what it’s worth, Biden’s approach here probably hurts him. He is trying to straddle both sides. He doesn’t want to abandon Israel but he is also afraid of losing the young vote, which is pretty crucial to win as a Democrat. So he keeps making statements that are somewhat supportive and somewhat critical of both sides. This leaves everyone confused and uncertain. That’s not a great look for the leader of the free world. He needs to pick a horse and stick with it (preferably the winning horse) or I think it hurts him in November. American voters want a winner, not someone who’s noncommittal trying to avoid the obvious. Just my $0.02 if it’s worth even that much.
  11. WTH was that call? Grabbing the singlet?
  12. Anyone know when the replay of session one is available?
  13. If his goal is to take over a bigger program, what does he get out of leaving Columbia? He’s done a great job bringing that program up a few notches, why not continue until the HC opportunity he’s looking for opens up. The only thing I can think of is if internally things at Columbia make it an unattractive place to continue coaching. But I don’t really understand how going to VT as associate HC really helps him. Also, I’m kind of surprised Frayer would not be the associate HC.
  14. Unless he becomes head coach in a few years, I have a hard time understanding this one.
  15. Wait, they kept Starocci’s personality under wraps? I must have missed that one.
  16. It is pretty odd that Pearsall was the associate head coach and Valenti hasn’t even been on the wrestling staff. i don’t remember the details, but what was the similar situation that happened with Tirrapelle? I know he became head coach when Reina stepped down, but then I think he was pushed out so Reina could come back?
  17. Even if they can’t lure a guy like Cunningham, I think a guy like Brandvold would be pretty successful. He’s a Wisconsin native who had a great career, has been coaching in college and must have good connections to Wisconsin high school coaches. @scourge165 do you know if Brandvold has a good relationship with Askren. If not, then maybe it’s not much better than Bono, but since Minnesota lands AWA guys I’d imagine he and Askren are on good terms.
  18. When guys transfer at this point in the year where do they train the rest of the semester? There is still 1-2 months before finals.
  19. Brands might not have Iowa at the level most expect, but who else out there would? If I’m the AD, I’m not getting rid of Brands unless there is someone like Cael that I can go after. Who else do people think could make Iowa competitive with PSU at this point?
  20. About 10 years ago or so he was the head coach in waiting when Davis was going to retire. I think Davis decided to stay longer and Prizlaff was pretty upset and interviewed with Michigan. That was not looked on too well by the athletic department. I imagine that still remains true today.
  21. Casey might be an under appreciated key to PSU’s success, but that might be because he is in the perfect role at PSU, which is more hands on in terms of developing talent. If he becomes a head coach, he is going to be doing more leadership type work and less actual wrestling work. It’s just the nature of being the leader of a program. I’m not saying he won’t be a great head coach and make a program very competitive, but I also don’t buy into the idea that his success at PSU is a 1 for 1 carryover to somewhere else. So many factors go into that, level of financial support, admin support etc.
