  1. Clip of the move. Clearly a blatant attempt to injure. And official confirmation that he is out. https://www.greeleytribune.com/2024/01/06/unc-wrestler-removed-from-roster-after-disqualification-at-southern-scuffle/amp/ I still don’t understand why Nickerson let it get this far.
  2. This is like the 3rd or 4th time the kid has done something like this. What is Nickerson waiting for?
  3. Anyone know the status of Schwartz? Looks like he was injured against WVU.
  4. I was a mediocre high school wrestler. I ended up going to school at UW-Madison (not for wrestling) but didn’t want my competitive days to be over so decided to try and walk-on even though I knew it would be a long shot. I still remember the first time we went live in preseason thinking holy shit I feel like I’m going to die! Anyway, I initially got cut and was kind of just content with the opportunity to be in the room. But Barry Davis, who was the coach at the time, said something to me like you can come back and wrestle with us once the season is over. That kind of surprised me, like he actually noticed me during preseason. Those words were enough motivation that I really trained my butt off and came back once the season was over. I trained with the team in Spring and summer and was able to walk on my last two years of school. Mostly I was beat up each practice but every now and then would get a takedown on a good guy and make him upset enough to really beat me up! Being in the room for my last two years of school is probably the most formative experience I’ve had in my life and one I’m grateful for.
  5. I get the impression he ain’t down with the Catholics, even though both are Christian and all.
  6. I guess what is also a bit different about Tazhudinov is that he wrestles for Bahrain. Usually, the high caliber Russian guys that aren’t going to be the top guy in Russia go to other former Soviet countries. I guess Bahrain is now throwing their oil money after Olympic medals and they happened to get a good one when he was young.
  7. Taylor’s overall number of Gold medals at 4 may not be as high as some, but in my mind the quality of his medals is about as high as it gets. Next to Sadulaev, Yazdani was supposed to be the next great one. If it wasn’t for Taylor he would have 4 more golds with his current stash putting him in the argument for great ones. What Taylor accomplished to move up in weight and basically own the series with a guy the caliber of Yazdani can’t be overstated. For me he is on easily on Mt. Rushmore with a gold at the Olympics next year.
  8. Yeah, that wasn’t lost on me, and it’s always a possibility.
  9. Ahh, yes. Boltukaev. But Bolt was tearing it up domestically for a while before he got the nod in 2014. Admittedly, I’m not as up to speed on some of the young up and comers internationally, but was completely unaware of Tazhudinov.
  10. Complete surprise to see him dismantle both Snyder and Sadulaev back to back. Was anyone aware of this guy and that he was this good coming into this tournament?
  11. That’s a nice way of putting it.
  12. I watch the tournaments from time to time. If you get the NHK app on Roku or whatever streaming service you use they show each days matches. It’s free. When I was watching more frequently Hakuho was dominating, but he might be retired now?
  13. Durlacher didn’t rep Israel, he repped the US and medaled at Worlds in 06. In general you are correct, it’s not hard to rep Israel if you have a Jewish grandparent. But I don’t think it has happened too often with Americans. I believe Evan Bernstein (Ophir Bernsteins father) wrestled for them at the 88 Olympics after wrestling in college here.
  14. Clearly the Holy Spirit wanted him to take 2nd at 86 kg.
  15. @Radik of themat.com forums Are the guys from Moscow actually from Moscow or are they from southern Russia (Dagestan, Ossetia etc) and just based now in Moscow?
  16. Maybe his ultimate goal is MMA, but I wouldn’t discount his goal of Olympic gold. And it would not surprise me to see him contend if he dedicates himself to freestyle.
  17. Ha, only if they don’t get torched going through Ukraine first.
  18. Russians, yes it happens a lot. But for Americans, I don’t recall a guy who has a good shot at being the US rep going to another country. As good as Anine and Micic are, neither of them had much of a chance to make the US World or Olympic teams.
  19. Agreed, and I understand it. It’s just that usually you don’t see it happen with a guy of his pedigree.
  20. Surprised at this. RBY is a guy who I thought soon could be the top guy on the US team and a medal threat. Usually the guys that rep another country are lower on the ladder. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him beat the US guy, whoever it is.
