  1. Another rule in JJ is that you reset in bounds in the same position you were in when you went out of bounds, so if you were in a crappy position crawling out of bounds does not help. It took me years to get rid of the instinct of looking for the out of bounds line and starting to work towards when I was in a position I didn't like. The other JJ solution that I used to see was a ref freezing the athletes in position and then dragging them both to the center of the mat.
  2. You need bigger out of bounds area
  3. I lost all sorts of matches in many different ways, so to imply that people who want to see the rules evolve are bitter losers is silly. I just feel TDs are harder to get and should be rewarded more. 1 TD should be worth more than 2 escapes, IMO.
  4. I live in NH now, but don't really follow HS wrestling at all. From what I've seen the best of New England usually go to a smaller PA state school or sometimes Lehigh, where they often struggle to make the starting lineup. Occasionally they get to be AA contenders like McGonagle or actual AAs like Jack or Robert Hamlin. I feel that decline of D1 wrestling in New England has held the region back. Also to some extent, I feel aving the New England championships limits the aspirations of the best guys .. They ultimate goals most New England wrestlers is to win New England instead of the higher goals kids from other states have
  5. I guess my point is SH is not going to be competitive just by landing all the in state recruits.
  6. You are forgetting the Hawkeye fans who engage in screaming "STALLING" as soon as the whistle is blown.
  7. IMO, it is just as likely that wrestlers will not sit on leads, because they will know that a 3-4 point lead is not safe with 3 point TDs. Realistically, it will not change much strategy as it is really hard to score points in D1. Wrestlers with leads will try to stall no matter what the rules are
  8. I have heard that their was a general sentiment of let's give the W to the senior over the FR, because this is his last chance
  9. I know of the Jack brothers and Camacho, but are there other CT or RI wrestlers that are doing well in D1?
  10. To continue to take this thread completely off topic, Angle famously won gold medals in the 1996 Olympics and 1995 Worlds on a referee's decision.
  11. Thus proving that 3 point TD rule solves all of wrestling's problems
  12. Didn't Lee Kemp loss in NCAAs final as a FR to a ref's decision and that was the only thing preventing him being a 4Xer
  13. In that time period OT only happened in tournament matches as well. Dual matches that were tied at the end of regulation were scored as draw. For some reason this was exceedingly rare. I am sure I was never in a dual meet tie and don't remember any teammate either ever having a tie
  14. Wasn't there a time where the last criteria for a tire breaker was a coin flip? Maybe I'm confusing this with pro sports that had a coin flip the final tie breaker for a playoff spot.
  15. Phillips and Chance may have been generational 8th grade/FR talents. If I remember correctly Chance beat a PA state champ as an 8th grader and Phillips beat a nationally ranked #2 wrestler as a 171 lb FR by a comfortable margin. By the time both were Seniors they were still top recruits and 4X champs, but some questions were being raised. Hard to live up to expectations when you are that dominant that early
  16. I didn't see anyone mention Brent Metcalf on this thread. I don't really follow HS wrestling and the hype for him and Schlatter as two of the best HS wrestlers ever was everywhere Our memories are faulty. There have been a ton of BB players that get the once in generation hype ("the next Jordan") and when they never teach that level we forgot how big the commotion was about their prospects
  17. Surprised to see Ramos and Gwiz on this list. My memory is that's they both were fairly aggressive. Angle & Zabriske were both undersized Heavies so that seems to make sense. Wasn't Ellis on the smaller side as well?
  18. I agree though IMO it shows how crazy good the B10 is as much as that D2/D3 aren't as good. A team of 7th placers at B10s could win a dual meets against most other DI conference champs
  19. Yes, and for the better.
  20. I am amazed that this is Bono's 6th year! A shutout is embarrassing. I was on some mediocre to bad wrestling teams but only got shutout once and it sucked
  21. Please notice the word traditionally. I know attendance if the top two is very rare. Almost always both wrestlers are highly ranked
  22. Watched the match on Youtube and had to rewind to figure how it was 3-0 after the first TD. I was looking for where the penalty point was when I remembered the 3 point TD. This match also make clear to me how much the pushout rule changes wrestling.
  23. I criticize NFL players all the time and think the Patriots should move on from Belichek despite never coached a single super bowl champion myself. As fans we don't have a right to be nasty, but I think it is fine to be disappointed in someone's results. I know they are just college kids, but there really isn't a pro league
