  1. No. Yianni's last year of eligibility is this year, no matter where he attends school. He doesn't get the COVID year of eligibility, because he *wasn't* on the roster that year (nor enrolled in school) (https://cornellbigred.com/sports/wrestling/roster/2020-21). Only those who competed in 20-21 got the "free" year. The Ivy League changed "4 years out of 5" to "4 years out of 6" due to the COVID year, but it is still four years, and the NCAA free year doesn't apply to him (and Vito and Max Dean, each of whom sat out that year).
  2. In short, yes.
  3. How things change. Steen instead of Howard, Barraclough instead of Haines...
  4. I just looked it up, being the skeptic that I am. 33% of public school students complete in four years, while 52% of private school students do so.
  5. My uninformed guess is that he didn't get accepted at Penn.
  6. Commitment #3 (Illinois, then Penn, now Okie State). "Commitment"
  7. Huh? NCAA champion over (wrestlestat ranked) #161 RS freshman? Champ. Round 2 - Shane Griffith (Stanford) 2-0 won by decision over Cash Stewart (Cal Poly SLO) 1-1 (Dec 4-1)
  8. Only if he gets hurt in the second or third period...
  9. Amos lost to Cardenas 3-1 in SV last November. I'm told that Cardenas hasn't done anything special since.
  10. Oh, sure. "Cardenas did X, therefore lots of people can do X". No disrespect there!
  11. Looks pretty disrespectful.
  12. What is worse is that people fall for "argumentum ab auctoritate" (argument from authority) and lend credence to and spread these ideas.
  13. Not sure what you are talking about, but I was talking about Yianni.
  14. If you go by that, Don Demas (4) counts as much as Eierman (2/3/4/5). Counting total number of AA awards is a better indication of the quality of the opposition. Yianni had six NCAA matches against opponents with three or four AAs; Lee had two. Heck, his sophomore year, he had to beat Demas (4), Red (6/7/8), Eierman (2/3/4/5), and McKenna (2/3/3) as a #1 seed.
  15. A lot of people are under that misunderstanding. Dake had 83 bonus wins in his career, including 44 pins, and a dominance ranking of 4.1 (compared to Yianni's 4.3). 28 bonus wins his senior year, including 18 pins.
  16. Yes. For instance, his sophomore year he faced four opponents who had each been or would become AAs. One with one AA, two with three AAs, and one with four AAs. This is for a #1 seed in the tournament. As a freshman, it was 3, 4, and 3. Crazy.
  17. It becomes comprehensible when you look at the incomprehensible number of AAs he's had to face (a total of 25 AAs in three tournaments. Compare to Spencer Lee with 18). I looked it up some time ago. That, and the fact that nobody this past tournament actually wrestled to try to beat him. This year will be different. ("almost is a synonym for 'not'")
  18. Yianni has to wrestle 65kg the next week at the UWW World Cup. Having said that, I'm told that there is a 2kg weight allowance, which means 147. I honestly don't know what that means for him. I know he'll be aiming for the WC (revenge for his World Championship final loss), but I don't know his priorities for events other than winning the Ivy League dual season, winning the EIWAs, and winning NCAAs. I have never had any indication that Yianni, or anyone else at Cornell, has ever ducked anyone.
  19. You'll note that they don't print each bracket's final results pre-tournament, as well.
  20. FFS, it is still October. They won't meet until mid-December, if they meet at all. Did I miss your prediction for this dual? Lighten up, Francis.
  21. I pointed out to you that the record in the brackets is coming out of the tournament, and gave as proof McKenna's record. Are you still under the wrong impression. "Cornell" doesn't say that. Read it again: Please stop digging.
  22. If you'll recall, Cornell came within an escape by Foca (losing 3-2 to Starocci on riding time) of beating Penn State last year; they return pretty much the same team. At 141, PSU loses Lee and Cornell gains with Cornella (5th at U20 Worlds this year). Cardenas lost 4-2 to Dean, and Cardenas just got a silver at the U23 Worlds.
  23. Well, you convinced me with your superior reasoning.
  24. Wrong. As I posted earlier: He was 24-0 his sophomore year going into NCAAs. If you want to be picky, he was 22-0, as two of the victories were over non-D1 opponents. So either 29-0 or 27-0, but not 31-0. The bracket lists him at 29-0, so we'll go with that. You should be aware that the W-L record shown in the brackets reflects their records *after* the NCAA tournament, not going in. Just look at McKenna, who is listed at 24-3: his three season losses were to Nick Lee and to Yianni twice (in the dual and in the NCAA final). That's your error.
