  1. Love this. Maybe we can also just grant PSU the title in March. 10 individual champions, their guys don't have to wrestle a single match all season. Cael will be appeased and then the rest of D1 can battle it out.
  2. Agreed. You want to root for people like him.
  3. When I was a kid I wrote to the local newspaper to suggest they hire me as a proof reader. I was something like 10 years old. So I get the OP. hammer should start a blog of his own.
  4. 100% Every athletic competition has some variance based on stylistic matchups. That's part of the fun!
  5. Same. They've definitely changed up how they practice - more wrestling, less running.
  6. OSU's perceived decline also has to do with how they were wrestling. Defensive, close matches, "chess match" somebody called it, low output, predictable strategies, lots of season-ending injuries for top guys (Boo twice, Brock twice, Weigel, Surber, Smith, several others I'm forgetting). Not the OSU style of the past, which they've gotten back to this season with the new staff.
  7. Eh, some folks enjoy speculating more than tracking down information. All good, this is low stakes stuff. Coleman himself said he wasn’t promised the job, that it was an opportunity to coach with his mentor, plus an opportunity to move back to a place he and his wife both love, and that it could give him a leg up in the hiring process depending on how the season went. It was never “come coach here and take my job”. I’ve been following every piece of Coleman news and he said all of those things several times.
  8. One person doesn’t/shouldn’t have ultimate authority over it.
  9. Coleman is a self aware guy. He doesn’t have a grudge. His family wants to settle down in Stillwater for a bit and he is figuring out if/how to stay involved with wrestling. It’s not complicated.
  10. I didn’t glean anything interesting from this interview. Just two dudes congratulating each other for an hour. That’s fine lol. The bar is low for good behavior from these two I suppose
  11. Maybe you have to be a fanboy to appreciate the interview. The "I'm great, you're great, Steve Holt!" vibes are pretty strong lol
  12. Agreed. He's a head scratcher. When he turns it on he can really, really go. It's about 50/50 in his matches this year whether he goes hard or sleeps for most of the match.
  13. Agreed What seems to happen is that coaches disagree on exactly how/when to do them, so they never get done. Perfect being the enemy of good and all that. Wrestling as a whole has scheduling issues - some want it a summer/fall sport, some want NCAAs to not compete with basketball, on and on. I personally don't care when it is. Heck, try it in the fall and then next season try it in the spring. See what the wrestlers, coaches, and fans think about both.
  14. He’s actually 40
  15. Demand better to BTN+ rather than to a forum? Might be something to try
  16. Cael wants as little competition until NCAAs. This is nothing new lol
  17. That’s part of what’s weird. Bailed on OSU bc Coleman didn’t get the job yet followed Perry to ISU Lost one match at ISU and decided not to wrestle or travel with the team for 3+ weeks Radio silence from ISU staff Just weird. Yeah maybe he’s had enough of ISU.
  18. He’s said it in several post match interviews. You could probably search Flo
  19. Nailed it. Like a good hammer does! Hasn't wrestled since April 2021. Has only fought 7 times in MMA since then. He's probably bored out of his mind.
  20. Right? Can't rely on counter offense too much
  21. Curious to see if anyone has insight on Christian Carroll. Seems like he isn’t hurt, but he has missed/skipped ISU’s last couple outings including the dual last night. Iowa State’s board doesn’t seem to know either, just hopeful he comes back. Been watching this kid for a couple years now, kind of a head scratcher to see him disappear once he finally cracked a D1 lineup.
  22. Sometimes you have to shake things up you know? Wardrobe, haircut, coaching change, maybe take an adult ed class after work…
  23. 118 was crazy small for adult men. 125 is too. Not many adult men walk around at 150 and below regardless of fitness and athleticism.
