  1. I agree with a bunch of this stuff. Some pretty athletic TE out there these days and blocking is part of the game. I can't imagine him blocking a decent DE nor running good routes, so TE is prob out. His lack of any football experience and his relatively short stature are both going to work against him.
  2. True enough. Cael hasn't exactly had a challenging non-conference schedule in years. ("but they are in the big 10!", "but the competition in the room is tougher than anything any college can bring!", "but the formula is working!") It seems to be working for his guys, but definitely not what is best for the sport.
  3. It makes sense. Not sure if it is "easier" for anyone--- fans, refs, or coaches. "Did he swipe 3 times or ony 2?" "Your swipes are too slow!" etc. Yes, you have some of these questions now but they will be exacerbated by having two, three, and four point near falls. The difference between 2 and 4 is only two seconds.
  4. And in April. Crazy... but then you move the meet inside. You do it for a football pre-game. Ticket refunds prob not necessary. Plenty of creative solutions for any number of problems. Trust in The Cael.

  6. Unstoppable in Tecmo Bowl.
  7. Uh yeah... non-Olympic only https://uww.org/event/seniors-world-championships-non-olympic-weight-categories/news
  8. Can anyone verify a 10 weight world championship this year?
  9. You qualify non-Olympic weights by participating in continentals. 10 weight worlds are in October? Really? Are you sure? The only precedent would be 2021, but that was because of Olympic postponement. At some point we had a four weight "non-Oly worlds." prob only in 2016. I think that is the subject here?
  10. How many times have they ever had a non-Olympic weight worlds? Once?
  11. We would have to see him in cornhole to know for sure.
  12. He was amazing. If I recall, he was bigger, or around the same size, as linemen back in his day. And he could run. I believe in lax, he was able to "withhold" the ball by compressing his stick to his chest, put his head down and run people over. You can't do that anymore!
  13. I know of individuals from my area who are doing very well financially, but still have no problem starting up a gofundme when travelling to a big tournament. They also have no problem posting pictures of them living it up in a nice air bnb and grilling up some steaks after the wrestling is over.
  14. Keep in mind that the way that many feel about this isn't unique to the US. The Russian wrestling leaders have discussed how to prevent their athletes from representing other nations. A suggestion was made to disallow any Russians who represent another nation from training on Russian soil. This proposal was made by a higher-up last year, but I do not think it was enacted.
  15. "You sir, are the world's greatest athlete."
  16. Wow! How is Poland doing? My Greco coach used to speak glowingly about how good their technique was.
  17. Mesenbrink's second transfer?
  18. Unathletic Tom Brady was drafted by the Expos as a high school catcher. His movement skills do not seem very good, but his hand eye coordination, mechanics, agility within a phone booth sized area, arm strength, and ability to generate power, etc. are other-worldly. This doesn't even take his mental skills into account. Yeah, he ain't beating anyone in running or jumping, he's just maxed out in other harder to define physical characteristics.
  19. Is Nick Lee somebody's brother-in-law yet?
  20. Yes, it seems like Zo is a no-brainer.
  21. Jax was cornered by Zo and Coeman Scott at Last Chance!
  22. There's always the RTC. I think DT has gotten some promises of big funding for the RTC from boosters. I thought Gwiz might be a possibility, because he is very tight with Taylr. He would often stay with the Taylor family and train at State College. However, it now sounds as if he is moving back to NC, where his wife has a job and Gwiz will be pursuing opportunities outside of wrestling. Apparently, he is done with coaching.
  23. I think MMA could work for him, but he needs to be willing to put a full effort in. I would suggest AKA where Cormier and Cain Velasquez trained. They have a history of turning big guys with wrestling skills into world champs.
  24. This is true. Head coach McDermott is a 2x National Prep champ. May have trained at the junior Foxcatcher club? So yeah, he likes wrestling. I think Cael may have actually let him attend practice and observe the inner workings at PSU at some point, coach to coach. The Burroughs thing is a bit more interesting than it appears on the surface. Despite being from NJ, JB is a Bills fan. Why? His wife is the niece of Bills HOF RB Thurman Thomas. So it was a given that he would be invited to speak when he attended training camp as a guest.
