  1. Well, Brooks dad tweeted that he will never make 86 again. Too much of a cut. So it looks like 92, and if he ever wants to be in the Olympics (and the weights don’t change) it’ll have to be 97.
  2. Munktar also gave us an anxious moment vs Steveson in the Tokyo Olympics.
  3. There’s a lot of unnecessary writing here. Japan getting to Dakes leg was not the result of some magical new technique. Dake allowed him to get to the leg so he could attempt his chest wrap As far as the chest wrap counter: nothing different than what Sidakov did, which also was not revolutionary as Askren discussed it on FRL before and after 2023 worlds. Nothing to really see here, except perhaps that Dake seems to be like that kid you try to coach up and he says “thanks coach… but I think I’m going to continue to do things my way.” And I suppose he’s warned that right
  4. Yes, the type of action we saw in the 90s and 90s when I wrestled. Bad technique. Bad stances. Bad defense. I mean, I’m not exactly an offensive juggernaut, but I’ll shoot all day on a guy who is practically standing straight up and has inferior (compared to today) head/hands defense.
  5. The par terre deficiencies greatly disturb me. Brooks had a gut wrench locked up in the semi and chose to put about a 1/16 effort into scoring with it. Those points could have made a difference. Geno, Taha, Saduleev, etc would not have hesitated to score there. I think one of the reasons there wasn’t a lot of scoring action in the 57 kg final is that both guys had a strong respect for how ugly the shore could get if they were taken down. You don’t want Higuchi to lick up an easy lace or guy, because they WILL score with it… or at least try to.
  6. You choose to trash the accomplishments of two world champs? Weird.
  7. I think you are getting muscle fiber types confused with the benefits of sport training and perfection of motor skills. Have you ever performed a biopsy of muscle fibers on a Russian and compared to people of other ethnicities? Or seen the results of such a test?
  8. Nickal could HAVE helped brooks for sure. In fact I guarantee he did. He coached brooks in ott.
  9. What is quick twitch? Everyone would HAVE liked to see Bo develop.
  10. Especially since Brooks probably stopped lifting in March. So he’s going to be 97kg without touching a weight before 2024? Seems unlikely.
  11. The average age of Olympic medalists has been increasing over the past three cycles. one of the reasons is that it is more lucrative to compete today. Athletes weren’t necessarily over the hill before.
  12. I would be opposed to it in women’s beach volleyball. We need as many matches as possible. But we are just falling in line with other combat sports. Also notice basketball and volleyball have been adding events…
  13. Double bronze is good for the sport. The UWW knows that the IOC likes to see a diverse group of countries medaling. For some countries it’s their only medal. Albania for instance. Eliminating a bronze would likely prevent some of these countries from earning a medal. Let’s keep the ioc as happy as possible.
  14. I like folkstyle and have no problem sticking with it. However, most of the anti -freestyle arguments confuse me. “However, how would we deal with the mat, referee and review issues for high school and jr high?” What mat issues? Use the same mat. Referee issues? Not a problem. Use one ref. Review issues? Not a problem, no review. Nothing changes. “How exciting is it going to be to watch a Jr high or HS kid or even college kid win a match by 10 quick push outs or even a takedown and 4 quick turns inside 20 seconds.” How exciting is it to watch a kid win a match with a takedown and a half Nelson inside 20 seconds?
  15. Welcome aboard! I’ve missed the presence of Uranus fans from our previous forum home.
  16. I might be willing to start counting NF from neutral. That would be easy to do, and might be a way we could improve freestyle success without changing folk too much. Just get guys more aware of their own backs. Spencer Lee is one of the best scramblers in recent NCAA history according to Ben Askren He never exposed. Sure, he lost a deciding scramble in the Olympics, but it could have gone either way Great scrambler, never exposes himself
  17. I appreciate it. Knew you’d come up big here.
  18. I will say that (after I praised the level of gymnastics coaching in the US in another thread) Zeke Jones once told me “the level of wrestling instruction in this nation is incredible” But this was also spoken at a camp that had 5+ Olympic medalists as instructors
  19. Snyder owns Rudis? I thought it was 25% each for rowlands, Nancy Schultz, Jeff Jordan, and the old SPG assistant. Is it 20% each with Snyder now?
  20. What is the “noose series?” I probably have a different name. Legit curious.
