  1. It seems to me that other countries, particularly Iran might be just as good (or better) with stepouts as a nation. However, I don't have the #s to prove this. All anecdotal.
  2. My understanding is that both Missouri and Oklahoma State are fairly close to large Air Force bases.
  3. I just watched a video about Cox training Greco with Coon, with Coon basically saying Cox could be a force in the classical style.
  4. Almost as if he has the "iowa attitude" that people complain about with folks like Desanto. Curiously, far fewer people complaining about MM's mentality and antics.
  5. Yes. This happened to me around 91? About 1.5 minutes left in the 5 minute period. I had a decent lead (3-0 on three one pointers?) on a very good guy on the "national team," whom was also a D1 placer. He got a tight hold on me and i "slipped." This is where things went very very bad for me. The match did not end up going the distance... and I did not win. The first 3.5 minutes were probably the best I ever wrestled in my life however.
  6. Also, I'm not really sure what an "MMA style card" is? I really don't get it. A set of matches... kinda like the all-star match already is?
  7. Flo has tried. They had some interest but not a lot; had trouble getting guys to commit. Rudis tried. Didn't work, Askren tried. etc. I hope it could work. Hasn't looked good so far. Most guys seem to want to weigh in and wrestle less, not more.
  8. It has been tried. Repeatedly. Guys don't want to do it. I'm all for trying again, but don't have high hopes.
  9. Sammie Henson's singlet was repeatedly grabbed to the point of extreme stretching in his Olympic final. No call. Sammie did pull his opponent's singlet to the other side of his head prior to that however. No call. Watch from start. Hellacious handfight.
  10. I agree with this. In my very mediocre Greco career, I did get after it pretty good and actually legitimately slipped on many throws. However, there were times when a guy got a deep underhook (or two) and I "slipped" to save myself from a bad situation.
  11. I initially thought Gilman scored 4, but people much more knowledgeable than me said it was two. It initially looked like 4, but plenty of pictures showed 2. Also, lets not get silly and act as if Lee couldn't have gone and gotten one more point even it it were a 4. There was time left and he would have only needed a 1. He had no problem scoring, even scoring late if need be.
  12. don't forget sucker punching coaches!
  13. Hey, I'm not getting into that whole thing that was going on yesterday! I generally agreed with you; but plenty of racists cheer for persons of color.
  14. Cheering someone of another race doesn't exclude you from being a racist.
  15. This seemed to be at least part of Zhan Beleniuk's strategy in his gold medal performance last Olympics.
  16. He did have his reasons for leaving Iowa City...
  17. Somewhere, Sammy Henson may have considered shedding a tear.
  18. Another weird thing is that it was also written in another language, so stuff can get lost in translation.
  19. It was almost like there was some sort of agenda! How about the two overturned calls? Super weird!
  20. I believe this is the first team where every member has won a world title at cadet, junior, senior, or U23.
  21. Name of the thread: "Did OTT finally make recruits/fans turn on Penn State?" Words matter. The thread is not about everyone that lives in the State College area; it is about "PSU." Gilman, Dake, Snyder et al did not attend PSU and were mostly finished products when they arrived. It is just a weird thing where PSU fans try to claim NLWC guys as Penn Staters. Iowa never tried to claim Alan Fried, Travis Lamer, etc. when they wrestled for Hawkeye. Just weird.
  22. We seem to be getting confused about PSU. Snyder, Gilman and Dake did not attend PSU. They may train (and coach) there, but were mostly finished products by the time they arrived. THey are all there for their own reasons, and I hope they are happy. None of them significantly improved their results upon their arrival to PSU; maybe they have gotten better, but their results have not. Just for the record: OTT winners universities: Penn State 2, Michigan 1, Ohio State 1, Cornell 1, Iowa 1.
