Crazy thing is, Saduleev was suspended in the past by making a political statement in wearing a tshirt that could easily be construed as being against Russian rule of Dagestan. It’s not like he has always been hardline pro-Putin and pro-Russia.
Last year multiple expats outplaced their Russian counterparts. This included winning heart heads. This basically never happened before in the same year.
So if I want to cut you, I let you get to your feet, ride you to the edge, release you and then push you out. 1 escape for you, 1 step out point for me. I lose nothing. Now I get my 3 point takedown. Wow. Major shift in scoring.
Dake was our only legit favorite. He had an exciting bronze match. Unfortunately he became too one dimensional (chest wrap), which was obvious in 2023. He failed to adjust for 2024 and for the most part failed to adjust in-match.
I like the push out, but I don’t see a way to add it to folk in a way that doesn’t confuse casuals.
The issue I see is pushouts in mat wrestling or just after an escape. Particularly immediately after an escape.
I wrestled in an excellent club (many world team members, several Olympic and world medals) way back when. Times were different, but my excellent coach advocated for 20+ international matches per year. I think he actually may have said 30.
Not sure our guys still need 30, but maybe a few more than zero?
I recently listened to Kendall Cross talking about making the Olympic team in 92. He definitely thought our top guys hadn’t wrestled enough that year and all were flat in trials. He personally wrestled over 20 matches that year and upset world finalist Penrith (who may have had zero).
Except the betting lines were American gambling sites and influenced by Americans who put money heavily into all US wrestlers. Disproportionately.
Very few “in the know” people, especially outside the US, would pick Lee over Higuchi.
But heaven forbid we examine it a little deeper. Same sites had Dake at more than -1000. Anyone who watched his run last year knew that was absurd.
But technically you’re not “wrong. “
