The REAL World Championships Started Today

Here’s the thing, in most sports that I can think of, when a new technique is developed, they don’t create a completely new event. Back in the early days of track & field, shot putters pretty much just stood in the circle and put it into the throwing sector. Then they developed the Hop Step which is pretty much as it sounds. In the early 1950s, Parry O’Brien developed the Glide technique. In the early 1970s, the Soviets popularized the Spin technique. While there are still some Gliders on the international circuit, most of the top throwers use the Spin. You can use whatever technique you choose as long as it complies with the rules, but there is only one shot put event. Same thing with the high jump. Techniques have changed dramatically, but there is still only one high jump event. In swimming, the front crawl/freestyle and even the breaststroke have a long history. The butterfly developed out of modifying the breaststroke as it was a faster technique For some reason they eventually decided to create a new event out of it. The backstroke, much like race walking, is a fine fitness endeavor, but should not be a competitive racing event. If logic were to prevail, competitive swimming would at least cut down to freestyle and butterfly. I am also open to discussing the need for both the long jump and triple jump -

Having multiple strokes is ridiculous. It’s the aquatic equivalent of adding backwards run, one legged hop, sideway shuffle, etc. to track. Just jump in the pool and swim whatever is fastest. -
What whole number comes between 1 and 2?

How much Leeway would Iowa give Spencer to sway them?

When I am King of the World, that will be a flogging offense.

It will be interesting to see what Duke & Haines do as the last day of the competition is the day before the fifth week of classes. With training, that is a tough pull for any student, let alone a first year student. I think it would be hard for either of them to do any coursework until after Zagreb. Don’t know what the NCAA rules would be for trying to not take courses until the 2nd 7week session which starts Oct 20.

What’s the most memorable match you’ve ever been in, win or lose?

Fourth grade, first match ever, I was pinned by Chris Renn in 17 seconds. -
Mark Manning averages about 6:30 per match.

Will AJ be able to maintain his religious persona?

With his ‘stache, he’s giving off those Wayne Newton televangelist vibes from James Bond’s License to Kill. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=98Vp2ofk9I8 -
I believe Penn State had 38 listed on the roster this year. Bartlett, Kerkvliet, McHenry, & Starocci are out of eligibility. Minus 4 makes 34. I think they have six incoming Frosh, plus Ono. Plus 7 makes 41. Dunbar, Evans, Facundo, Fricchione, Vespa, & Steen have entered the portal. Minus 6 makes 35. Still a ways to go to meet the new 30 man roster limit. It will be interesting to see where they land as other schools trim down to 30. I think that only the infamous Power 5 conferences are locked in and others schools have the choice of opting in to the whole revenue sharing & new roster rules. Casual check at roster numbers for the top 25 this year. Penn State: 38 Nebraska: 36 Oklahoma State: 34 Iowa: 34 Minnesota: 34 Ohio State: 32 Cornell: 44 NC State: 44 Northern Iowa: 34 Illinois: 36 Virginia Tech: 36 Michigan: 32 Purdue: 28 Missouri: 39 Lehigh: 40 Pennsylvania: 43 Little Rock: 41 Arizona State: 32 Stanford: 28 West Virginia: 34 Navy: 40 Wyoming: 34 South Dakota State: 37 Indiana: 28 Maryland: 31 Oregon State: 36

For what it's worth, Penn State has wrestled Wyoming, Binghamton, Oregon St (home & home), & Little Rock the past two years. Even did a home & home with Rider in 21-22 & 22-23.

Can Bo Bassett push Iowa from 4th to 2nd next year?
manatree replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
Never thought we’d see the day where Jimmy was at a loss for words, but it’s clear that he has now switched to A.I. for his content. -
Word on the street is that Cael sent Taylor an 83 minute video of two three inch binders being burnt to a nice char.

Could Angelo demand that Iowa take his brothers too?

So if you win, you go blind. If Jimmy wins, he goes blind? -

Keuter - will he develop into a top tier heavy?
manatree replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
I don’t see it happening unless he drops football. Even then, I have not been impressed with his agility or quickness in the matches that I have seen. -
Ohio State's final dual this year was Feb 14th. Either way, it doesn't bother me. Different coaches have different strategies.

What are the chances Ono enrolls at Penn State?

Less than 83% -
This. If you look at. what Rutgers wrestling before he took over, it is very impressive. He has also done a great job with building their fan base. Go back and look at attendance rankings, they’ve been putting higher ranked programs to shame.

Not a clue. The only reason I know Kerk’s weight is because Jeff Byers, the PSU radio announcer, usually provides the weights of both HWT’s for each dual.
