My guess is that the door is not shut for Gabe to come back at some point in the future. Just not the immediate future

Ah, checking on Twitter seems like this is the flimsiest of rumors. Nothing to see here. I'll start another one to keep peeps occupied: GARVIN AND CARDENAS TO IOWA!!

I don't want the entire coaching staff to be canned because that would be a lame way to introduce a semblance of parity back into the sport. But if really crappy things get uncovered, then I suppose them's the breaks. In the event of the worst case scenario, I would be very interested in how Cael and Casey do at separate institutions. Lots of PSU wrestlers have heaped praise on both so I wonder if part of the PSU magic has to do with the synergy between the 2.

Brooks story: True or False?
Mr. PeanutButter replied to Interviewed_at_Weehawken's topic in International Wrestling
not claiming to be an expert by any means but I found a couple studies, here and here, and my understanding is that DHEA can mess with the T/E ratio, the primary method that a lot of tests use in attempting to determine the presence of exogenous steroids. So DHEA has a similar effect on these tests that the steroids do. The difference is, the tests are not, from my understanding, always able to detect the substance that caused the increased T/E ratio (ie, the direct agent), rather they more often just detect the result. DHEA is used as a masking agent because these tests CAN detect the DHEA in addition to the elevated T/E ratio, allowing the offending athlete to claim that the wacked up ratio was due to the DHEA, since it was detected in the test, and not due to the steroids, which aren't always showing up directly. -
Brooks story: True or False?

I thought about this post some more and reread the last few pages. I think, I might be starting to understand your position a little bit. When I heard that NCAA Brooks interview initially, my honest reaction wasn't "hey don't disparage Muslims" (I don't care about them) but rather, "damn it Brooks, don't tell me what to think or believe, I just want to watch some wrestling!" Even so, at the time of the interview, though I thought it was awkward and pushy, it wasn't until I saw his YouTube channel, heard his "holy Spirit infused" underhook interview, and listened to the dumpster fire that was the Basch interview that I came away with the thought that this guy was a bit of an asshole. I think the NCAA interview, being on national television and feeling so out of place with the celebratory and uplifting tone that I think such an event aspires to be, served as the most notable example of why people, including myself, find Brooks to be unlikeable. I don't think, based on my read of this thread, that people were arguing that Brooks was an asshole because he was mean to Muslims. That's certainly not my position. however, I can't speak for the other posters. I do however, now understand why that message may have come across in the first place. I've been really mean to Brooks in this thread so I'd like to again highlight This interview where he comes across really well and actually changed my opinion of him. But then the failed test occurred and I went back to being a skeptic and negative nancy -

Many athletes have spoken about their faith, taking advantage of a post match win interview (such as after the NCAA finals) to profess their belief and yet, to my memory, none of them have elicited anything near the type of reaction that Brooks has. Jason Nolf, David Carr, Stephen Buchanan, Alex Marinelli are just the few wrestlers that come to mind who where very vocal about their faith in Christ. Some of these wrestlers have their fair share of detractors but I have yet to see anybody criticize them for their religion (other than Marinelli, who is ragged on for everything, including the audacity to have a wife, apparently). Carr seems to be a universal favorite in fact. The only thing I have seen negative about him are jokes about his boogers. What Brooks did was obnoxious, pompous, "you-are-wrong" preaching. He could have been Muslim, buddhist, rastafarian, hell, he could have been preaching about veganism and it still would have come off as obnoxious due to the tenor and intensity of the message. If anything, if he were Muslim the reaction would have been far more heated. you also have the interview where he said his underhook "was from the holy Spirit" and therefore superior to Yazdani's who only got his from "some coach". Not only is that obnoxious, I would say that ventures on the edge of delusion. Then there's the Basch interview following Olympic trials which has been brought up a few times. Dissing on your teammate is one thing (note that this was the eggsact thing Bartlett was dumped on by PSU fans when he made his first and only message board post) but then to claim DT isn't faithful enough in the same breath as comparing yourself to Jesus was just a wild ride of delusion. Finally, have you seen his YouTube channel? I haven't watched nearly every video because they are literally painful to get through but the parts that aren't legitimately unhinged are so aggressive in their "you are lacking" (therefore I know the way) messaging it makes a man wince. You mesh these things together, along with a few other interviews I've seen over the years, and you get the portrait of a generally unlikeable person who loves preaching and telling people about all the ways they are lacking (implying he is better) while breaking rules repeatedly. In all the videos I've seen of Brooks, he does not come across as a guy that is fun to be around. That's why I called him an asshole and that's the crux of this discussion. To try and twist this into something political is smooth brained and pu$$y sh!t Now to be fair, I thought Brooks came off as very personable in this interview and I felt true sympathy when he talked about his struggles this past year. I can no longer say that Brooks comes off as an obnoxious asshole in every video I've seen of him. Perhaps he's turning a corner -
Good point. I forgot that a couple Iowa wrestlers were able to nonchalantly show up to ND and wrestle a few months later.

I have no idea if this applies to Arnold (doubt it, based on my understanding of the parameters) but it could be one possible explanation should be fine his way onto a team for next season

Is everything there behind a paywall or am I just too dumb to figure it out? Edit: turns out I'm dumb AND lazy. All I had to do was create an account!

"Journalists" under fire...

The more I listen to the The "quad pod" cast , the more I like it. 4 hosts who manage to have a nuanced discussion or debate on current topics or news without yelling at each other or talking down to, berating, or ranting at wrestling fans. So far, none of the hosts have called D1 wrestlers pu$$ies so they clear that low hurdle of ethics and professionalism. They also manage to do an entire episode, sometimes spanning nearly 2 hours, without spitting into a cup so there's that too -

Big fan. He's a great communicator, very personable (important traits for working with athletes, admins, and donors alike). Has been quietly building up a solid resume. Looking forward to what he can do in my favorite state! -

Brooks story: True or False?

The he-wasnt-competing-therefore-he-couldnt-possibly-be-cheating narrative is a lame narrative. Dopers dope. They dope whether there is a competition at the end of the season or not. Plenty of athletes, including wrestlers, got caught, kept blasting gear, came back as good if not better only to get caught again. In fact, doping when there is not a looming competition is eggsactly when it's most advantageous to ingest trenbolone sandwiches. That's how cycling works. The other reason why this is a dumb narrative is that Aaron himself said he was planning on competing at final X up until he got sick in In this here interview so he could have been juicing all season long. People aren't buying the eggscuses because the story is dumb and flimsy, for various reasons that have been discussed ad nauseam. Furthermore, how many people do you know that, after suffering through a serious illness, tell themselves: "you know what I could use right now? Some amateur recreational trifling with my hormones" Finally, I believe a good portion of the response to this story stems from the asshole rule: when you act like a tool, you forfeit a good deal of grace and patience. Nowhere is that rule more on display than with Carter Starocci right now, for example. -

Brooks story: True or False?

Fair enough. This isn't a fair equivalent but the type of bullying I was witness to during swim practice included: kicking vigorously in the face of someone during kickboard sets, vigorously dolphin kicking into someone's chest or abdomen during a flip turn and streamline, yanking on somebody's ankle to pass them, smacking a swimmer across the face during butterfly sets intentionally. Shower/locker room shenanigans ended up causing a very prominent club to shut down and disband in my state when I was in high school. -

Bad, as in milquetoast? If a star swimmer went public with these types of allegations against a teammate, there would be hollerings of toxic team culture and/or statements about the coach losing control of the program. And that would happen even to programs/swimmers with pristine reputations. Curious how so many people are willing to play vigorous defense for Carter "Graveyard exterior designer" Starocci -

10 minutes into FRL and the crew has been really keen on trying to make all the positive cases for why this might not be a case of cheating lol. No one has brought up masking agent yet. JD is the only one that has been pushing against what seems to be the company line a bit Edit: gotta pretend to do some work this morning so I won't be able to finish the episode -
