  1. Some promising results from BeauMan and Gilcher.
  2. He barely beat Spencer Lee with a blown ACL in high school, and he had a couple wins during RBY's true freshman year. Desanto without a doubt improved during his time at Iowa, just not enough to beat Fix or RBY.
  3. That's fair. They probably would have only been outscored by 70 without suspensions.
  4. It's been a few years since this was true. They were outscored by over 100 points while placing 5th last year, and weren't within 50 points the two years prior. This isn't necessarily a knock on Iowa. No one can be meaningfully compared to Penn State.
  5. @AnklePicker pretty much covered what needs to be said.
  6. Go back a few weeks and find the thread where you can read everyone's thoughts on this.
  7. Thank you. That is all I aspire to be.
  8. I would agree to each their own. I am a glutton for wrestling coverage. I enjoy looking at rankings, prognostications, previews before a big dual, a breakdown after the dual, and I also really enjoy the limited amount of big freestyle events that get coverage. The build up before the actual event, and then seeing how it unfolds compared to my predictions and the predictions of those that are "knowledgeable" makes the event more intriguing for myself. If you're only concerned with NCAA streaming, then, yes, ESPN and Big10 provide much more coverage as they own the broadcasting rights to the majority of duals, conference tournaments, and of course the biggest of all, the NCAA championships. I pay for ESPN+ and BIG10/BIG10+ to watch the matches, I pay for Flowrestling because I want everything that surrounds the actual event.
  9. Midseason shows discussing the latest news in college wrestling. College rankings. High school rankings. Recruiting updates. Big boards. Literally any high school coverage. Match previews. Match recaps. U.S. Open coverage. WTT/OTT coverage. u17/u20/u23 coverage. Brackets. An archive of matches after they happen. Coverage of World's and content leading up to the event. A breakdown of Worlds/Olympics after they are completed. Just to name a few aspects of coverage and promotion that Flo does superior to ESPN. When I want to look up an old match or information regarding wrestling, I have never once gone to ESPN.com. Edit: Typo
  10. I wish I knew. Good rebuttal.
  11. Certainly you jest.
  12. Hopefully his early commitment helps sway some other notable names to join him.
  13. I think the disappointment is not so much from the outcome, but the way they wrestled. Illinois' wrestlers were trailing in the third and still not willing to take a risk. It was simply uninspired wrestling. In the PSU vs Nebraska dual, the score was equally lopsided but Nebraska at least showed up, and they were huge underdogs at many weights. 174 Pinto attacked frequently, and even gave up a reattack takedown because of it, but at least he came out and wrestled. He was active in scrambles and wrestled like he believed he could win. At 285 at least Andrews said f*** it and went for broke with the throw. Again, he tried. 133 Van Dee goes for the winn-dixie and gets it. 141 Hardy made a Beau Bartlett match either the most or second-most entertaining bouts of the night. 149 Ridge wrestled tough and came out with the win over SVN who was most people's pick going into the match. Illinois had no urgency, no aggression, and seemed apathetic about the results of their matches.
  14. After the discussion following Illinois performance last night, I have gone into a deep dive of looking at their teams over the past 25 years. Their best run since the turn of the century was at the beginning where their teams placed.. 2005 - Illinois - 6th - 70.5 points 2004 - Illinois - 7th - 69.5 points 2003 - Illinois - 9th - 53 points 2002 - Illinois -10th - 47.5 points 2001 - Illinois - 5th - 89 points 2000 - Illinois - 6th - 59.5 points They kind of tailed off after that but still finished in the top 10 in 2009, 2012, 2013, and 2016. The real collapse began in 2019 where they went from 13th the previous year to 26th. Since 2019 their lone top 20 appearance was in 2021 when they finished 18th. The big problem seems to be recruiting. 2019 - #18 Byrd and #39 Luffman 2020 - #70 and #73 - no starters 2021 - #43 Maximo Renteria and #81 Dylan Connell - Renteria would be a welcome addition at 125 this year 2022 - 0 top 100 recruits 2023 - #13 Kannon Webster and #25 Braedon Scoles 2024 - #30 Colin Kelly and #78 Ryan Bennett 2025 - 0 top 100 recruits It's hard to believe that in a state so rich with wrestling talent that they aren't able to keep at least a handful of guys home. Was the Mark Perry effect a key part of their performance during the run of 2012-2018? He is credited for recruiting Delgado (who followed him from Cal Poly) and Isaiah Martinez. With their roster this year, yes they have a guy at every weight other than 125 (no offense). But realistically they have 1 guy who should AA and a number of 12-20 ranked guys that could, with Scoles and Webster probably being the most likely at this point. Anyway, I have no reason for posting this other than I spent several hours digging around old Illinois teams, results, and recruits and thought I might as well post my findings in the off chance someone would be interested to read them. Anyway, rooting for Coach Poeta and the Fighting Illini as they move forward.
  15. They've actually finished in the top ten in 2012, 2013, and 2016. From 2012-2018 their worst finish was 13th, so over a seven year stretch I would say they were a top 10 threat, even though they only accomplished the feat three times. Their line-up in 2012 was really solid. Four AAs and two R12s. 125 - Delgado (7th) 133 - BJ Futrell (6th) 141 - Fanta (NQ) 149 - Terrazas (R16) 157 - No qualifier 165 - Conrad Polz (8th) 174 - Jordan Blanton (4th) 184 - Tony Dallago (R12) 197 - Mario Gonzalez (7 seed R12) 285 - No qualifier
  16. I don't know. He's 4-1 with an injury loss and three of those wins came by DEC pushing him to a 20% bonus rate.
  17. It was stated in the tOSU vs Rutgers dual, and I heard it again last night on the broadcast. There isn't any new information. The last thing that came out from Lehigh is still that they hope to get him back this season.
  18. I actually did a double take there because I couldn't believe it. 1st - Minnesota - 138.5 2nd - Iowa - 125.5 3rd - Oklahoma State - 115.5 4th - Oklahoma 93.5
  19. 2024 - Illinois - 38th - 7.5 points 2023 - Illinois - 31st - 11 points 2022 - Illinois - 25th - 17.5 points 2021 - Illinois - 18th - 25 points 2020 - Covid 2019 - Illinois - 26th - 16 points 2018 - Illinois - 13th - 37.5 points 2017 - Illinois - 11th - 43.5 points 2016 - Illinois - 9th - 50.5 points 2015 - Illinois - 12th - 51 points 2014 - Illinois - 13th - 41 points 2013 - Illinois - 9th - 45 points 2012 - Illinois - 7th - 62 points Now entering pre-trackwrestling so I can only find top 10 results 2009 - Illinois - 8th- 55 points 2008 - Not in the top 10 2007 - Not in the top 10 2006 - Not in the top 10 2005 - Illinois - 6th - 70.5 points 2004 - Illinois - 7th - 69.5 points 2003 - Illinois - 9th - 53 points 2002 - Illinois -10th - 47.5 points 2001 - Illinois - 5th - 89 points 2000 - Illinois - 6th - 59.5 points
  20. If the article is interesting, I read it. I read one yesterday on Flo about Tom Ryan's comments after the Rutgers dual.
  21. Some stiff competition.
  22. There are times where I feel similarly, but overall I stand by this logic.. You were either forced into the bottom position or chose to be in the bottom position when given choice. You choose bottom knowing that a reversal is worth two points and and escape is worth one. I've said it before, a takedown should be rewarded more than a reversal because you started in a neutral position. A reversal is only possible by either being taken down, or choosing bottom. If you want to score three point, choose neutral. IMO, neutral takedowns should be more heavily rewarded than changing control from a position of being controlled. That's obviously a controversial opinion. I don't think reversing my control is necessarily as difficult as gaining control from neutral. You are never on bottom unless your were forced there, or put there by being taken down. You're in a defensive position regardless, and it shouldn't be rewarded equally as to scoring in neutral where you need to be offensive.
  23. I am someone who prioritizes takedowns above all else. But in folkstyle, where getting back to neutral is earned via escaping control, vs being put back in neutral by lack of action (freestyle), there has to be a reward for the bottom wrestler. I think the old system of a 2 to 1 reward system wasn't accurate, but the current 3 to 1 system is fair. If you got rid of the escape point, you might as well just convert to freestyle and put both wrestlers back to neutral after 10 seconds. IMO, folkstyle with the three point takedown and the current nearfall system is better than it has been in my lifetime.
  24. Where do you watch the U.S. open across age divisions? Where do you watch WTT across all age divisions? Where do you watch Final X? Where do you watch CKLV, or Ironman? If anything, the success that Flo has had in streaming duals has led to other entities becoming buyers for the rights to stream duals. You tell me where you were watching B1G duals in 2007. They invest 10% of the effort they used to? How so? They provide content whether predictions, or breakdowns of duals/tournaments they don't have the right to air, as well as promoting wrestling beyond any other entertainment media. If Flo is so bad, who is covering and promoting the sport better than Flo?
  25. TBH, this is a stupid argument. Rock, you missed some action and didn't have access to rewind and see what actually happened, the WKN is faulting you for a live take that missed the replay.. The call, despite my rooting for Hardy, was correct, and you two are arguing over nothing. Rock, you didn't watch the conclusive angle where Brock clearly lost riding time, and Wkn, you're arguing against someone who is justifying their position based on not seeing the replay/conclusive evidence. Sure, in real time it might have seemed like Hardy should have won, and certainly with replay and slow-mo, it was clear that albeit close, Bartlett won. Just stop.
