Does Iowa panic if they DON'T land Bassett
Wildcat92 replied to Masonbuckeye's topic in College Wrestling
Nick, Joe and Matt Lee all did this. They all skipped their senior year of HS to head to PSU to start training for a year before entering college. -
Penn State ranking changes post Nebraska
Wildcat92 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
I think he's the biggest lock in the field. None of the other heavyweights will score an offensive point on him. He might beat Kerk or Hendrickson by 5 or 6 points but they won't be close to upsetting him -
Still, the cringiest is Ferrari's middle split double bird, followed closely by Ferrari's flex and "665 lb deadlift, baby!"

Agreed. I've seen the clip. Clearly the kid she did this to is a beginner or relatively new to the sport. Not impressed

Best Wrestler Without an Olympic Gold
Wildcat92 replied to GrandOlm's topic in International Wrestling
Cary Kolat, Terry Brands, Dake, Lee -
I don't see any path for him to make a world/olympic team at this point. He's not dropping to 57 and beating spencer. he's not beating Vito at 61, he just lost to a HS at 61. I think his window has closed. I think he should move on to the next phase in life, but if he wants to keep trying to live the dream, who am I to tell him he can't.

Curent top five P4P best American MFS wrestlers
Wildcat92 replied to peanut's topic in International Wrestling
1. Spencer 2. Dake 3. Brooks 4. Snyder 5. Parris -
I'm not minimizing elites down to being random. I'm saying every now and then (randomly) we will have an elite HS kid not go to college. We will still have "elite" NCAA wrestlers. NCAA didn't miss a beat when Cejudo, Pico skipped college. College wrestling will be just fine. I don't think Iowa or PSU will close up shop because a Bo Basset type kid opts to go the international route right out of HS
-
Nothing will change at the college level. If a handful of truly elite HS kids forego college to focus on freestyle, the universities will just recruit the kids at a level below them. Will the college product be as "good" without those random elites that forego college? Yes it will.

Planning to attend my first NCAA's. An old wrestling buddy of mine lives in Philly and we are planning to go.

I had opportunities to continue my career after HS at some D3 schools, but by the time HS ended I was done. The weight cutting was certainly a factor. I knew a few guys that went to wrestle for those same D3 schools that weren't as successful in HS as I was and they had some moderate success, so looking back I could have been somewhat successful at that level, but my heart was no longer in it and I moved on.

Wrestling is like soccer in the US. In soccer there is something like 2.5M participants at the youth level. But we stink internationally (men). Women just won the gold. The issue is that the nation's best athletes are playing sports that pay. This is especially true at the upper weights. You won't convince me that there isn't a better athlete than Kyle Snyder at 97 KG in this country. There are any number of 213 lb WR's or RB's in the NFL that are better pure athletes than Kyle Snyder. But they opted to play a sport that will make them millionaires many times over. Same with men's soccer. Our best athletes are not playing soccer.

Nick Lee, Micic, Chad Red, Mason Parris, Escobedo, Tsirtsis x2 and many others. I'd say they do ok at NCAA's

Bo Bassett Narrows His College List..........From 80 to 73
Wildcat92 replied to RandolphTJones's topic in College Wrestling
Dumb. Just a way to get views on his instagram. He 100% has it narrowed down to 2-3 schools. Nobody thinks he still considering North Dakota st, Bucknell or SIUE. -
Alirez / Mendez - fundraising snooze?
Wildcat92 replied to Dark Energy's topic in International Wrestling
Didn't care for Mendez dusting himself off after the match. It was a brutal match to watch and neither one seemed to interested in trying to score points. -
Didn't really learn much about a possible folkstyle match up between these two. Neither seemed particularly interested in taking a legit shot until the very end.

No way was Favre 245. At most he was 225 when he was playing. Same for Steve Young, except I am pretty sure he wasn't even that heavy.

Examples of wrestlers getting WORSE as they got more fit?
Wildcat92 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
The techniques that a big fat heavyweight uses to win matches is very different that a leaner, muscular heavyweight. Take a fat guy, have him drop 30 lbs or so and he basically is reinventing himself as a wrestler as the techniques, etc that he used as a fat guy are different from what he has to use as a smaller guy. -
Examples of wrestlers getting WORSE as they got more fit?
Wildcat92 replied to Jimmy Cinnabon's topic in College Wrestling
A guy like Joe Lee comes to mind. He held wins over guys like David Carr and Shane Griffith prior to entering college. He basically made the line up one time and qualified for NCAA's but was never heard from again. -
As a general rule, I don't donate to anybody's gofundme unless I know them personally. Even then, it would only be for something like a medical emergency, death, etc. I couldn't care less that RBY's family can't afford to make the trip to Paris, nor do I care that he is representing Mexico. The whole gofundme to pay for somebody's family to take a once in a lifetime vacation to Paris seems a bit annoying. One would think a 2 time NCAA champ would have some connections in State College and/or Arizona to garner some sponsorships to help his family make the trip. Or they can stay home and watch on TV like thousands of other athlete's families.
