I explicitly didn't condone it morons

Do you condemn Israel's levelling of Gaza right now? The murder of thousands? Surely just because Palestine killed some civilians doesn't give them the right to respond right? @Le duke what do you think? Shouldn't Israel turn the other cheek and let Palestine's crime go unanswered? If the Israeli people were so apathetic to let a criminal like Netanyahu take power, surely they deserve what they got right? We saw millions of Israeli's vote for a warmonger charged with bribery. They deserve Hamas, don't they?
-
At no point did I say it was noble or good. It's a horrific crime. Just that we are here because of the occupation and anybody who actually cares about stopping future violence has to start there. Israel started a war and is dealing with the consequences. Keep patting yourself on the back though.
-
okay mr badass, none of that changes anything don't blame them because our government sent you over there for no reason
-
And you know they're full of sh*t about caring about these people's lives when none of them were on here condemning Israel murdering 20x as many civilians before this attack. And none of them are condemning the IDF bringing down whole apartment buildings in Gaza right now. 100s of dead children and that's just the count right now. It will be much higher. Nothing but callous judgment of a people who have been oppressed for 75 years. Kicked out of their homes. Displaced from where their families have lived for a thousand years. Shoved into a tiny strip of land to live in squalor all while IDF goons beat and shoot them without penalty. The reason the IDF performed so poorly against this attack is that they had to kill actual soldiers and not pregnant women trying to get to the hospital.

If any of the people in this thread had to live in Gaza, they'd be screaming Allahu Akbar and firing a rocket over the fence in a week.
-
You can all live in a fantasy land where you think "oh if I was treated that badly, I would be the bigger man and not return fire." But history tells a different story. Every time there is an invasion/occupation we see an equal reaction from the local population. They turn to violence against violence. Nothing changes if we ignore the root cause, the invasion/occupation.
-
Yes, they did. Worse than before. You think the living conditions were stable during the war? That's some serious revisionist history. Notably in Iraq, the occupying force liquidated most of the Iraqi workforce. Their cities in ruin, their jobs gone, most of these young men turned to the militant groups in the countryside. This is basic history.

Also, the Palestinians have tried plenty of peaceful avenues. Their activists travel and campaign across the world for their freedom. Israel deemed that provocative and violent. They started a Boycott movement akin to the South Africa apartheid boycotts. Israel and Western Media deemed it anti-Semitic and therefore violent. In 2018, they did a march for return at the border fence. Thousands of unarmed Palestinians marched on the border fence. Israel welcomed them with live ammunition. Over 200 dead, nearly 1000 wounded. In addition, Israeli snipers targeted field medics and journalists. They have a longstanding history of doing so, notably including the murder of Shireen Abu Akleh, the most famous journalist in the Arab world. She was shot in the head by an Israeli sniper while covering an Israeli raid of a refugee camp. She was wearing clear identification as a journalist. The UN's investigation confirms that this was a targeted Israeli sniper attack.

You've got the order backwards. The treatment Hamas dealt out this weekend is the same treatment Palestinians receive in Gaza regularly. Israel killed 100s of Palestinian civilians in the past couple years *prior to this week's violence*. Prior to this week, in the last 15 years, Israel killed 6400 civilians. Palestine killed 300. 21x the amount. The poverty rate in Gaza is over 50%. Israel controls their economic activity. Same goes for what the US army did in the Iraq and Afghanistan, they kill your friends and family, reduce your home to rubble, and make you live in extreme poverty and you're not supposed to feel violent towards them? When you treat people like animals, they will eventually become animals.

Important to remember that Israel essentially created Hamas out of disparate fringe Islamist groups in the 1980s with the intention of weakening the PLO. Not conspiracy, this is explicitly stated by Israeli officials. https://theintercept.com/2018/02/19/hamas-israel-palestine-conflict/ Inconvenient fact - The West is the number 1 sponsor of Islamist Extremism in the world. Nearly every Islamist movement got its start or was built up by an alliance with Western interests trying to undermine a regional power.
-
This is isolated from the historical context. Israel empowered Hamas (very much on purpose) by stonewalling any sort of peaceful attempt at a solution by the Palestinians. Hamas is what you get when a people are desperate and hopeless. These are human beings. After 70 years of failure to regain their homes, how can we expect them not to turn to a force like Hamas?
-
Any discussion that doesn't begin with the occupation is wrong from the start. The Palestinians were forcibly removed from there homes, packed into a small strip of land where their movements, economic activity, religious expression, etc...are controlled by an occupying army. Gaza is the world's largest open air prison and it's been that way for decades. While the attacks on civilians are heinous, we should also remember that Israel has killed 12x as many civilians since 2000. You don't see Western media ask them to apologize for that. You can't treat people like this and expect them to lay down. The Israeli government led its people to this horrifying moment. Ironically, Israeli media has far more freedom to acknowledge this obvious fact than Western media sources, who won't acknowledge the obvious: https://www.haaretz.com/opinion/editorial/2023-10-08/ty-article-opinion/netanyahu-bears-responsibility/0000018b-0b9d-d8fc-adff-6bfd1c880000 Excellent interview from a Palestinian activist on CNN: CNN's booker probably got fired for this.

Hillary's commitment to getting Trump elected is admirable. It would be easy to rest on her laurels, but here she is.

Don't get mad because you weren't smart enough to understand. They explicitly said it was their B1G schedule.

One of the best marks of an idiot is going all in on a conspiracy theory that has no logical purpose. Never taking a second to ask themselves why? Does it make sense that a man made an honest mistake when he ran into a door that was supposed to be open? Or that he was trying to delay a vote he supported in a different building because....well....well, why on earth would he do that? Give me one reason why? The "why" is the essential part of the conspiracy theory.
-
What do you think he was trying to accomplish? 1) He supported the bill he was rushing to vote for 2) It wasn't in the same building as the vote. Nobody had to leave the capital building and the vote went through as expected (Bowman voted for it). 3) That door is supposed to be open at that time and wasn't. He got confused in a hurry. So answer this honestly: Why would Jamaal Bowman pull the fire alarm to delay a vote in a separate building when he was on his way to vote yes? What do you think this conspiracy accomplished?
-
If you're in a hurry to get somewhere you're supposed to be, you don't always make the right split decision. I could see myself in a hurry glance at the sign, see "push button....door will open" and push it without thinking. Plus, once he realized his mistake he ran to the next door and made the vote. But if you think this was some master plan to stop a vote (that he supported lol), I don't know how to help you. Embarrassing for sure, but a simple mistake.
-
It was not the Capital building. It was the office building next door. It had no effect on the vote. "He was trying to block the Congress from voting." He and all the other democrats voted for the bill, genius. It's no wonder our country is in the place it is. It's full of willful idiots like Paul who believe obvious lies because they like the way they make them feel.
-
If you actually look at the sign on the door, you would realize it's easy to make that mistake, especially if you're in a hurry. This wasn't him pulling the fire alarm on the wall that we all think of. Of course, that doesn't get clicks, so the people who know better are going to ignore it for $$$. https://x.com/MattBruenig/status/1708305191575900440?s=20

And doesn't want to pay them fairly or provide safe working conditions. If you actually cared about those people, you should be 100% pro strike, no questions asked. We all benefit from labor militancy. That's where we got the weekend folks.
