2025 Transfer Portal
steamboat_charlie replied to Indiana-Hawk-Wrestling-Fan's topic in College Wrestling
I already gave you the facts, so I'm not really sure what else to tell you. The two schools have similar admissions standards, with Illinois ranked a couple rungs above OSU. This whole "mid-level" and "safety school" talk is just baseless conjecture on your part. Iowa, Indiana, and Ohio State are not all in the same boat. -

Illinois is ranked 33rd nationally (9th for publics). Ohio State 41st (15th for publics). Illinois has a selectivity rate of 44%, Ohio State 51%. Illinois average SAT 1410. Ohio State 1400. Illinois average ACT 32. Ohio State 31. Illinois obviously is well known for their engineering and science programs, which are all highly ranked. Ohio State doesn't necessarily have that one area it's most known for, but is well ranked across a wide variety of degree programs--top 20 in engineering, business, social sciences, nursing, chemistry, public affairs, etc. You can pick virtually any area of study and you won't have to scroll too far down the list before you find OSU. I say this not to say that Ohio State is better than Illinois, nor the opposite. Just that your notion that Ohio State is an easy school to get into for the average student is outdated. Ohio State has some professional athletes on campus playing football. It is what it is. Most of those guys aren't really students. -

Illinois and Ohio State are on relatively even footing these days. Similar admissions requirements and selectivity rates. Both ranked in the top 15 among public universities. Iowa is not in the same boat. -
Best to ever beat you (more post-NCAA banter)

Never lost a match. Ran out of time once or twice, though. -
You don't can the best coach in the history of your school based on one transfer. If this becomes a trend then sure, you should consider it, but I don't imagine the Ohio State staff intends to sit idly by and do nothing to improve their station.

Well. Penn State was already going to win. At least this way it might be entertaining.
-
Lost one match to Coon in a dual, which he reversed at NCAAs. He lost one match in three years at heavyweight while training basically exclusively freestyle. Coon is arguably the best heavyweight to never win a title, and won a world silver that same year.

Well if it's heat you want, I'll bite. That's an insane take. Certifiably so.

It seems sort of obvious that there's some animus generally within the PSU camp around how Taylor handled his last few years in Happy Valley, as well as his exit. From a neutral perspective, if they actually do hate each other, that sounds like fun. And we all know how much these guys love Fun.

What are the chances Ono enrolls at Penn State?

Why would anyone be surprised that Taylor and Nickal don't get along? Don't think there's a room big enough on the planet for those two heads to fit in. Both great wrestlers. Both rank on the absolute bottom of the "guys you'd like to get a beer with" list.

To the topic of Parity in wrestling
steamboat_charlie replied to Truzzcat's topic in College Wrestling
Is there really more parity? That particular talking point picked up a lot of steam during the CFB season this year, but I think it was a reactionary take on the back of a few unexpected upsets. What was true before NIL remains true today--the only teams capable of winning a championship in football are the blue bloods. Now, power has balanced out much more nationally across said blue bloods as the "pay gap" between the SEC and other conferences was eliminated, but I wouldn't exactly call that parity. It's still the same teams at the top. What has definitely changed through NIL, and perhaps more importantly the transfer portal, is the speed with which a good coach and organized booster base can turn around a struggling program. See: Indiana, Colorado. -

I'll save you the wait--zero additional dollars will be allocated to the OU wrestling program, whether we're in a new world "revenue share" regime, or the current NIL structure becomes status quo.
