  1. Conference tournament result is third behind head-to-head and quality wins.
  2. We can't help it if he is still spelling his name wrong after all these years and all these attempts at correction.
  3. I saw that Starocci got a cease and desist letter from Anheuser-Busch. Pretty petty.
  4. Gabe Arnold gets a lot of stick on this and other forums. Some of it deserved given his penchant for calling out Starocci without backing it up (sometimes not his fault, sometimes his fault). And some of it is completely undeserved, as grown men being childish and investing way too much of their self-worth in how someone else performs at a sport. So I wanted to point out something I noticed last night. During the 197 final Arnold was waiting with the other podium finishers at 184 on the far side of the floor. Rather than hang in the designated area at the opposite side of the floor, he asked for, and was granted permission to be near the mat where the 197 final was happening so he could cheer on his teammate. No one else from any other team thought to do something like this the rest of the night (or they were denied permission if they did). To be clear, he needed to be escorted there by a credentialed worker as it was off limits for anyone without credentials. So let's give it up for Arnold being a great teammate in that moment.
  5. The at-large criteria and the seeding criteria are identical: 25% Head-to-head 20% Quality Wins (wins over qualifiers and pre-allocated spot earners who did not qualify when considering at-large, wins over wrestlers in the field when considering seeds) 15% Conference Tournament finish 10% Coaches' Rank 10% Common Opponents 10% RPI 10% Win % Subjective Criteria: Bad Losses (to sub-0.500 wrester) Outside top 30 CR and/or RPI Performance in last 5 matches Number of INJ or MFF wins/losses Best Quality Win Availability (call it the Suriano Clause)
  6. And everyone in Shawshank is innocent. Lawyer screwed 'em.
  7. I spoke with a two-time NCAA champ who said abs are over-rated. He won his two titles without a six pack.
  8. 141 feels like the weight where the seeding formula can say one thing, but the seeding committee can say something completely different
  9. Starocci v Keckeisen: 25 H2H is N/A. 20 Quality wins is going to be real close between Starocci and Keckeisen. It will come down to how their opponents are ranked in the final coaches' poll as they both have a lot of QW's. 15 Tournament finish is a push 10 Coaches' rank probably favors Starocci 10 common opponents is a push 10 win percentage is a push 10 RPI favors Starocci So I think Starocci wins the formula and I do not see the committee reversing that.
  10. Yes, and no. They use that math to produce a set of seeds for the seeding committee. The committee can then move someone up or down as many as three spots. I think Starocci was #7 last year by the numbers, but wound #9 after committee deliberations.
  11. Yes. If the allocation earner places at least two spots below the allocation level in their conference they are automatically eliminated, so a non-earner who finished one below the allocation total could, with the right mix of other criteria, take an at-large spot. Less likely is an allocation earner finishing one below the allocation level and then losing out on the other credentials as they would have entered the tournie with a lead there.
  12. Ramos v Lilledahl likely comes down to whoever has the higher coaches' rank (worth 15) as Lilledahl already has 35 points in the bank with the h2h win (25) and the higher conference placement (10). Ramos has win % (10) and common opponents (10) locked up and a huge quality win advantage (either 20 or 15).
  13. Hell, I would say 60 seconds max and maybe even 30. And add in the freestyle dynamic. If you lose the challenge it is a point for the opponent. So many of these challenges are "just because I can" challenges.
  14. I hate it when guys shoot. Hit em all with stalling.
  15. Much respect to Caliendo. He wrestled to win that match. Attacked constantly. He did not wrestle like someone who was worried about getting bonused.
  16. Byrd is the Word
  17. Finals start in 45 minutes. Got to pay my check and get to the stadium. No time for Cinnabore.
  18. The ref did signal a team point deduction. I assume that was not reviewable and it stood.
  19. There is an insanely loud 10 year old Illini uber-fan sitting behind me absolutely losing his shiit and living and dying a thousand deaths with every Illini match. I want to believe he will one day take over the ILLINIWrestlingBlog.
  20. Like ice cream on a 100 degree day
  21. Thank you, Tyler Kasak. Quiets the crowd.
  22. My fuses are blown
