Yojiro Uetake come over from Japan to wrestle for Oklahoma State from 1964-1966. He went undefeated all three years and won an Olympic gold medal for Japan in 1964 and 1968. I have no idea how well Ono will do, but to act like the switch to folkstyle is an insurmountable impediment to great NCAA success seems faulty to me.

Technique and the # of high quality wrestlers is totally the same in 1966 as it is now.    Also be careful…..  wrestling started in 2010.    🙂

When Seidel takes him down............Ono isn't getting back up.

Significantly better wrestlers than Seidel have failed to do that.

The interviews of PSU wrestlers by PSU wrestlers has been one of the online highlights for me this season. Ono will not lose a match during his college career. Book it.

That’s a crazy statement when he is almost assuredly going to run into Jax, Siedel, Davino, Larkin, Vega, or Bassett. I think it would be cool if he does well but those guys all beat him in my opinion. There are probably more I’m not thinking about.

This part...there's so many on here quick to say he won't be good because he "won't know how to get up off bottom". He's one of the greatest to ever come out of Japan, and he's still yet to reach his prime. He's the single fastest wrester I've ever seen on a mat. To think he won't be able to EXPLODE out of the bottom is just ludicrous.

If Bo Bassett doesn't ever do anymore than AA two times I will delete my whole ass account.....WrestlingRash sucks

watch the 2024 worlds. There’s a level of intensity this kid brings to the table that’s gonna give everyone a problem. That’s how I see it. Others disagree.

His effing legs are like sequoia tree trunks and he easily bull rushes people out of bounds using that lower leg power.  It’s gonna be tough holding him down.

You may very well be right.

I don’t know if him getting ridden will be his biggest problem. I think it could be once guys start rolling around and scrambling. Folkstyle scrambling is not something easily learned in a year or 2.

nah no one knows but it’s fun to use the results of recent matches to predict future ones. He’s a super tough m’fer in many ways but a good rider may very well be a problem for Ono. Time will tell.

What recent matches.   Almost two seasons ago?

Yes, you have any reason to think his skills have diminished since then?

You have any evidence to think they went in the other direction.

again.  The programs biggest eye  sore is wrestling 141 this weekend.  Everyone says Carl will be punting him away from the program next year.   That’s evidence he isn’t Godzilla in the room.  If he was the cry baby would be gone today

I mean Bo bassett was turning 26 the last time Ono competed lol

You have no idea.

I've seen what he's been doing in the room, there's no guarantee he'll win NCAAs next year, but he'll be able to wrestle with - and score on - anyone he competes against.

They don't need anything out of 141 this year, so shoving him in there after his health issue was never a consideration.

Over cutting is hardly a health issue.  Just bad weight management.

Daniel Cormier suffered from similar “health issues”

Well, he suffered kidney failure...

But his training is different and inspirational, so he probably doesn't need kidneys.

Where was his single against Lee who DNP at 57 Kg?

I've said it before and I'll say it again: A guy like Hardy or Jax would be a nightmare folkstyle matchup for an international FS convert.  The best chance Ono would have would be takedown and instantly cut (3 pt. TD helps Ono's chances), but unless he's finishing cleanly, guys can scramble for stalemate in ways that he's not used to since they don't have to consider exposure in folkstyle rules.  His strengths would be speed, power, and neutral technique.  His weaknesses would be maintaining weight for a season with NCAA weigh in rules, the grind of a long season, mat wrestling, and scrambling positions.

He's in the best room in the country, though, so I'm sure these areas for improvement are being, well, improved.

It’s the best dude I’m watching the one now where Peter and quagmire switch underwear and end up switching personalities

My son just got into it.   He’s in his teens.  He sends me rando clips all the time.  The show is done so well.   Beyond hilarious.   Top 3 adult / funny cartoon easily
