This kind of suggests the Cornell coaches suggested he leave? Is there more context here?

I thought it was kind of clear he wasn't welcome back from the portal...

My notes on this interview.  BLUF:  did not ask or address *why* it was necessary to agree that it might be best for Shapiro to continue elsewhere.

Shapiro wanted to "red shirt" the whole year last year (can you do that in the Ivy League? I guess he means not enroll?), but the staff disagreed. So they compromised by taking the first semester off.

Herniated two disks in his neck summer 2025.

Felt he needed a mental break in 25-26 as well.

Proudest moment of the season was blood round win over Cardenas.

Of course, what everyone wants to know is *why* he left Cornell. The only bit that addressed the question was Shapiro saying that after the season he met with the coaches and they all agreed that he might benefit from a change in programs. WTF?

Set on Nebraska, then visited UNC and Koll almost convinced him.

Giving up the Cornell degree: "I'm gonna be a wrestling coach, not a plastic surgeon"

Knew he wanted to take 26-27 off; even Cornell coaches thought that was okay, "but it was a little late for that". More mystery.

Will probably do some freestyle this coming year. Goal is to help Antrell be national champion this year. Make the world team next summer. Will probably wrestle a couple of years after college, then will see after that.

What will he miss about Cornell? Friedman is the best room/facility in the country. Miss "the people." Had good things to say without naming names. Wasn't interested in the Iowa money; Nebraska more like Cornell in terms of "family."

Most likely 157 final year. Going to 74kg for freestyle. Must get stronger.

Vince Robinson is the coolest guy ever.

Seems he talked to the coaches before entering the portal based on BigRedFan's nice writeup.

Maybe academic issues?

That’s all I have on it…others might be able to add some context

Of course, but that doesn't mean he was free to test the waters and come back.

It's a moot point if the coaches suggested he look elsewhere before entering the portal. Just take the L and move on.

Also, Antrell Taylor can levitate, and the Shapiro's have a seriously nice home gym in the basement.

Where does he fit in the lineup?

He’s not…this year at least. From everything I’ve heard he’s trying to sit this one out for a full run next year.

Is he getting the 6 for 6 deal?

Don’t they have that Big Meat Box now or whatever? Is he getting the meats?

It’s 2026…I shouldn’t speculate on such things

As Tom Ryan hinted to in his Flo video, Paddy Gallagher to Oklahoma.

I believe that every projected starter for the Sooners is a transfer.

Might AA someone this year. Looking much better than last year’s lineup. Let’s see if that room can get the most out of any of these guys. Gotta think if Kish struggles this season his seat is getting hot.

I’ll take a stab and say they AA one and have a handful R16/R12. Should be a few spots higher in the Big 12 than last season. Big red flag is that everyone is transferred in, can they build organically through recruiting and development as well? We shall see

I'm not sure about Wells back down at 133.  He didn't have an easy time making that weight his last year at Minnesota.  Maybe the weight comes off better in the desert heat.
