Actively trying to welcome him back and just being willing are two different things…clarification on that would be nice

That's not the game...

On a recent BEG show from a few days ago @Cornell Kevin said no chance he stays at Cornell, he’s already moved out.  He says NC State is out, he thinks it will be Nebraska and taking a redshirt

isn't he eligible for the new rules given he never took a redshirt. Isn't there no reason to take a redshirt at this point as he would be punting a year of eligibility.

I wondered that myself. Not sure

I don't believe that's how that works...

Does Mendez get two more years? He never used a, "shirt."

He graduated. If he didn't then yes. Same for all of the true freshmen who started (eg, Vega, Robideau, Forster).

what the hell is wrong with shapiro? Its must have been awkward when he just showed up and started training like nothing happened.

He is going to Nebraska. He decided on it a few weeks ago.Not sure why Brian Swaw even suggested that Cornell was a possibility, because it was never, at least since he moved out of Ithaca nearly two months ago. It came down to UNC and Nebraska. He will announce Nebraska soon

Shapiro has 2 years of eligibility left since he never red shirted.  He wrestled with the Cornell RTC while he was still a senior in high school. then took 3rd as true freshman, 5th as soph, 8th as junior.  He will announce Nebraska and that he chose to go with old rule set. He wlll take a red shirt with Nebraska so he can get healthy and compete in some freestyle at 74kg.  Then he will compete for Nebraska for his senior  season (2027-28 season) and will wrestle 165 lbs.  He has been a light 157 pounder throughout his career but is starting to fill out weighing upwards of 175- 178 lbs right now.

I wish him the best

He can't take a RS based off of these new rules from what I understand. I think it wouldn't benefit Shapiro to take one if he was able, prime HEW candidate, IMO.

He can choose the old rule set which he will do.  His interest lies with getting healthy during a redshirt year and competing without injury for his last year of eligibility. So in a sense. the new rule set would benefit him if he was seeking out to compete for 2 years, however, that is not the case.

The rumor that Brian Swaw posted has zero validity to it. Meyer has had zero intentions of returning back to Cornell and Grey has had zero dialog or attempt with having him come back.  It was initially NC St- UNC- Nebraska…He eliminated NC state, then a couple of weeks ago decided to eliminate UNC.  I can promise you with 100% certainty that returning to Cornell has not been an option for him from about a week into entering the portal.

The part about Cornell being in the mix is 100% not true.  He either made it up or heard it from someone that made it up

I understand going to the other Big Red and cooling to get healthy. But why not just go new rule set and maybe just enter one tournament maybe a few duals and enter post season 2 times? Do ultra load management for senior year and then all out super senior year. Unsure of where his health is at I guess

How does "opting" into the new rules work. Do you have to send it in to the NCAA or can he start in a "RS" by not competing and then pull it and say he is using his last two years in the new ruleset

Pretty sure you have to opt in to one of the rule sets before a certain

Your team would have to allow you to forgo the entire season (basically) and then take over a weight class at post-season/nationals. If I’m the “regular” guy at 157 for 20+ matches this season and then come tournament time I have to sit so Shapiro can go wrestle for hardware, I’m going to be pretty salty

I think Trelly would give him the side eye.  I get it go elsewhere. But maybe he likes working with Ridge! that would be fun to watch.

Yeah not fully convinced Trelly doesn’t win against Shapiro in a wrestle off anyway.

Ridge has really stepped his game up considerably across the last 3 seasons or so. I’m not even a Nebraska fan, but he’s been awesome to watch. Nebraska has been annoying to witness as a fellow Big Ten opponent who wishes to ascend similarly, but I never minded that it happened to that program really, I mostly enjoy their fanbase…until I came here and discovered jajensen, that is.
