I'm not clear how the Big Ten seeding algorithm is weighted, but Cannon doesn't have an official RPI yet because, I think, he hasn't wrestled 15 matches.

RPI is part of it, so that is unfortunate.  Curious if they have the same 15 match limit NCAAs uses, or if it is reduced to ~12 due to being prior to B1Gs.

You would think it would be less, so he probably is good.

Cannon beat Taylor vis Major 16-4 at the National Duals.  Why shouldn't he get the #1 seed?

Because he won’t have a match within the last 30 days.

Therefore, can’t be ranked in the next coaches poll.

If he’s not ranked in the coaches poll, he’s not jumping Taylor or Duke.

Was that criteria?

Is that criteria for coaches rank as well?

Willie Saylor shared that the BigTen will use a scoring matrix to seed BigTens this year (Basch and the Brain 366 Podcast)

Criteria POINTS
Head to Head Results 25
Record against common BigTen opponents 25
Better Conference Dual Record 20
# of quality wins against the 33 ranked wrestlers in the coaches ranking 10
Better RPI 10
Better Coaches Ranking 5
Earned Conference Allocation 5
TOTAL 100

Each BigTen wrestler will be scored against the each other wrestler in their weight class and seeded by their overall score.

From a PSU forum page: Comparing Byrd vs Blaze

Byrd Blaze
12.5 12.5 Did not wrestle H2H
12.5 12.5 Both Undefeated in conference
0 20 Byrd 6-0, Blaze 8-0 overall conference record
0 10 Byrd 4 wins, Blaze 8 wins quality wins top 33
0 10 Blaze #1, Byrd #5 RPI
5 0 Byrd #1, Blaze #3 Coached Rank
5 5 Both will earn conference allocation
35 70

This is a sample scoring. What I don't know if the individual points are prorated (split somehow). Looking for more feedback from anyone with a better grasp on the scoring. Thanks.

--------------
Answer: they are prorated. although i don't know exactly how.

the example told to me is if Byrd is ranked #1 to Blaze's #2

Byrd gets 3 points and Blaze gets 2. not sure what that breakdown would be if it were, say, Byrd and Davino. or Byrd and Van Dee.

also it's

• HTH vs Field
• Record vs Common Opponents
• Conference Dual Record
• Quality Wins (Top 33 Coaches Rank)
• Coaches Rank
• RPI
• Allocation Earned Y/N

So Coaches Rank is only 5/100.  Cannon still leads in most other categories, yeah?

It is also still unknown how the B1G will define RPI.

May be a bit trivial, but Olivieri at #3 at 141.  Undefeated at 13-0.  But, four of those are at Bloomsburg Open, his last time on the mat at on 1/24.  His last dual was 12/7.  His B1G record is 0-0.  Two top-33 wins.

Two of Vombaur's four losses were to Mendez.

RPI, I think favors Focus right now.

He has two losses, only to Feldman.  I think Feldman losing to Mirasola essentially makes it rather clear cut.

1 - Focus, lost to 4

2 - Taye, lost to 1 (bad)

3 - Mirasola, only lost to 1/2

4 - Feldman, lost to 1, 2, 3

5 - Kueter, lost to 2, 3, 4

6 - Amos, lost to 5

7 - Hopke, lost to 6

8 - Luffman, lost to two guys that 7 beat (non-conf)

Feldman beat Ferrari 2x his only conference loses are to Michigan and PSU.  He also beat. 1-5-6-7

You're correct.  He lost to two guys, still.

Focus only lost to one guy, even if it was twice.  He also only has those specific two losses on the season, whereas Feldman has four total losses on the season.  The coaches rank will reflect that that matters.
