Well losing Bo was pretty huge, but the way I understand the situation Bo was putting himself in front of the program, and possibly jeopardizing Iowa wrestling. So I am not sure that the Brands Bros can be faulted for this. Also I don’t know how much of an impact that this will have on future recruiting in Pennsylvania.
And many people are clamoring for the Brands Bros to step down, and I am sure that day will come, but I don’t see it happening anytime soon. Mainly because who could Iowa get to replace them. Of course people will say oh get Dake or JB, they can be just like David Taylor. But Taylor is different, he ran a very successful youth program and he expressed a desire to coach, to my knowledge Dake or JB haven’t done either. It doesn’t mean that they won’t be very successful, I just don’t see it happening in the immediate future.
The real problem with Iowa is that they are now competing against a Super power in Penn St., who is dominating both the wrestling and recruiting.

My understanding was Taylor was not interested in the job and was not interested in being a head coach unless it were a few select programs. He had his roots firmly planted in PA with a farm, the M2 club, working with the NLWC and his wife's smoothie business. OSU approached Taylor and he turned them down. They came back with a second offer which he couldn't turn down. Compound that with not making the Olympic Team finalized the deal.

That being said Iowa isn't going to find a more qualified coach on paper. Taylor was not an established collegiate coach by any means at all and it took a serious leap of faith by OSU to go after him. It was a big gamble at appears to be paying off. Iowa needs to make a similar gamble but it doesn't appear they will, thus will stay exactly where they are or continue to fall behind. JB and Dake are getting older and their names won't generate the same type of instant spark much longer so Iowa needs to move fast if they want either one. Spencer Lee.. I just dont see him being able to do very much for anyone over 149lbs..

I think Terry and M*'s contracts expire this summer.

I thought the same. But I I looks like they got extended last year until 2029 after the successful commitment of the basset

Full of un-bias blasphemy.

It's crazy to me now that if you visit the Iowa board almost NOBODY wants Spencer as a coach.  I feel like this is a complete 180 from just 1 or 2 years ago.

Why would you want anyone to coach that quit on the team at NCAA's. Once he lost to Ramos he quit did not help team get more points that is not what want to teach the new recruits.

Many years ago I made the "wild" claim that keeping the PA pipeline open was the key to Iowa's continued success.  As others pointed out they were at their best when at least 50% of their lineup was PA studs (Lee, Desanto, Kemmererer, Murin, Young, Teasdale).

Iowa went away from this and instead has changed the "50% rule" to mean at least 50% transfers from other schools and look at where we are now...

What do you mean by "nowadays?"   Can you name the last multi NCAA team champion coach who did not meet that criteria.

Well actually I was responding to another poster about the potential candidates for Iowa in case the Brands Bros, step down or get fired. And this person was saying that there of plenty of good candidates, my response was what you responded to. Now if you are asking about with team has won multiple Championships recently other than Penn St., I can’t think of one.

Wow, I didn't know that. Do you have a source? I can't find any info about that.

The only earth moving and difference making hire for Iowa would be Jordan Burroughs. Anyone else is a notch below the Brands brothers, regardless of how good of coaches they are. He would move the needle and then it would be up to him.

That's for Tom. When the school extended his contract in 2020, they also announced extensions for Terry and M*.

One of the local news outlets, can't remember which one, mentioned something similar to this Daily Iowan article when Iowa signed Tom from 2022-2029: "Brands was previously extended through the 2026 season on Feb. 12, 2020. Assistant coaches Terry Brands and Ryan Morningstar were also extended until 2026 at that time. Iowa Athletics has not announced any additional extensions for Terry Brands or Morningstar."

Prior to their 2020-2026 deal, the assistant coaches were on annually renewed contracts, so I was wondering if they've gone back to that process. There are pros and cons to both.

Any game changers for Assistant coach? Nolf, Dake, Sydner  etc?

Any Big RTC names they can/should bring in?  We've seen a few Penn State guys move around recently, can they bring in a recent graduate next year like mendez, haines.

Anyone else wondering how the great Dan Gable is thinking about all this? He was at the recent match. Whats his thoughts in general about the current trajectory of this once fearsome team? Inquiring minds want to know.

One has to wonder if he was famously calling stalling against his own Iowa wrestlers.

He can’t be too happy. Anytime he’s gotten screen time lately, he doesn’t seem pleased with what’s happening out there, BUT what’s he gonna say? Throw Brands under the bus and probably do even more damage to the program he built and loves?? I’d be curious what he does think and say to close confidants when there’s no microphones or cameras around?
