Hawkeyes have been offensively limited early into this season. Given Hawkeys performance against the Buckeyes, it seems like the offense is the problem. I think they scored like 4 TDs in the dual, and 3 TDs were in OT.

In Iowa vs OK State dual, Hawkeyes won 6 matches in the dual. In all 6 matches, Hawkeyes only scored 1 TD per match. This is just a "fun fact." I'm not sure it is truly indicative of anything. These were all tough matchups.

All very true, but it also seems as if they have had difficulty pulling the trigger in recent times.

As wrestlers, Tom and Terry could put as many points on the board as almost any collegiate wrestler ever; other than Caliendo (for the most part), recent teams wrestle more like Morningstar.

I'll offer a counterpoint with regard to Iowa. I know everyone likes to make fun on the chihuahuas but I do think they can coach. Not at a Cael level but they can still coach wrestling a very high level.  

The past few years, Iowa hasn't been tested early.  (RIP Iowa City duals).  ISU has been down, Midlands declined before Iowa started the Soldier Salute and that is an intra squad meet with a few Minnesota guys sprinkled in.  So we haven't seen them lose many matches this early in a while. 

So by the time Iowa sees top 5 competition it is Jan/Feb and then it might be too late to make adjustments.  We are still a long ways from March and it's possible they make a few adjustments and look different by the of the year.

alright HOMBRES this is KMF and i aint calm and i aint pretendin. that CyHawk in Ames was a straight up public schoolin and i dont care what the score says or how folks try to spin it. Cyclones wanted it like a dog wants a bone and the Hawkeyes showed up like they was late for church.

me and the missus rolled the Stabbin Cabin into Ames and parked it where the Hands could lay low. they stayed in the rig — maybe didnt wanna witness the shellackin, maybe worryin bout ICE snoopin round Ames who knows. Wallace was awful quiet which means nothin good cookin in that head of his.

Hilton was loud like a grain silo fulla hornets and Dresser stood there smilin like a man settlin old debts. dont forget boys — Dresser’s Iowa blood and there aint no love lost tween him and the Brands. you could feel it. Metcalf and St John lurkin on the Cyclone side like ghosts with grudges, breathin long memories and bad blood inta ears, remindin kids real quiet who chewed em up and who spit em out back in Iowa City.

and the wrestlin? lord help us. spaghetti arm AYALA flailin like wet laundry on a clothesline. BAILEY lookin like hes waitin for permission from his grandma. KENNEDY? polite in the wrong kinda way, standin there hopin somethin happens instead of makin it happen. FERRARI barely squeakin past with a win, lookin like he found a penny on the mat and decided that was enough. Cooter at heavyweight gettin walked around like a stubborn farm animal that dont know it lost already.

Cyclones knew what they was doin — push pace, club first, take the mat. they didnt ask nothin. they took it. and Iowa? lotta circlin lotta lookin at the corner lotta hope somebody else fixes it. thats not Iowa Style HOMBRES thats Iowa Guessin.

Brands boys standin there arms crossed jaw clenched like two bulldogs starin through a fence but the kids look too tight scared theyll get chewed for breathin wrong. hard rooms build men sure — but sometimes they build statues too stiff to move.

forums been hummin all week InterMat Cyclone boards even PSU and OkSt folks laughin sayin Iowa lost its bite. hate hearin it but that night in Ames they werent wrong.

so yeah CyHawk goes red this year and it aint a fluke. its a warnin label. Iowa gonna have to decide if they wanna wrestle or just show up lookin proper.
