Ok now watching in slow mo, you’re right. Good non call.  Although I do think ISU genuinely thought he did.

I already told you that is going to Nagao.

Not possible. Your own fans must first be under some delusion that you can win it or at least place pretty high. Nasir achieved that in Iowa, but not really for Nagao.

Endene will beat Elam. Elam doesn't have good enough offense to get to Endene's legs.

I love how nothing you say ever ages well hahaha

If Bo Bassett doesn't ever do anymore than AA two times I will delete my whole ass account.....WrestlingRash sucks

Is it just me, or was that ref insanely pro-Iowa?

--Williams was totally exposed on his back by Zerban for like 10 seconds and weirdly the ref wouldn't count backs, so Zerban finally had to abandon the move.  Wouldn't ding Williams for stalling either despite clamming up on bottom.

Which criteria?

"Nasir achieved that in Iowa?" Huh?

Short memory on Nagao: Was considered a title threat when he first entered the PSU room after a great freshman campaign at Minnesota, close matches with RBY and others, a win over Mendes (maybe), etc..

After two hugely disappointing seasons and a lot of NIL money, it appears that he will never be able to replicate what he did in Minnesota.

Can you link a post saying Nagao was a title threat this year? If you can I will be completely impressed.

Williams was close to being exposed but was closer to 90deg.

And with all due respect, the angle didn't matter in this situation.  The angle only matters if one shoulder or scapula is on the mat.  William's left shoulder touches the mat briefly, but then it is in the air.  This was probably closer to the scapulas being less than 4" off the mat, but that couldn't be the case either, because Zerban's body is under the right shoulder.  So really not even a time to start counting for either.

Again (as a frustrated ref): Angle of the shoulder blades does not count if neither shoulder is on the mat.

Ummm read my post.  He's been with PSU for three years.  He was considered a title threat as soon as he signed with PSU, but has been a disappointment since.  I cannot believe that the PSU coaches couldn't get up to his MN level again.

Show me any quote or thread from psu fans claiming Nagao a title threat. At Penn State he lost his first dual match to Ryan Crookham and then he lost to virtually every top wrestler he faced unless you consider Jacob Van Dee a top wrestler.

I read the internet too, and I dont recall him ever being discussed this way by PSU fans.

Fans thought he was a title threat and successor to RBY. In Nagao's last season at Minny, he beat a sucked-down Mendez twice, Byrd, Orine, pinned Phillippi; lost to Fix, lost close matches to RBY incl the Big Ten finals. He was definitely in the convo his transfer year.

When PSU fans think their guy can win it, they sing it from the mountaintops. They have 8 guys like that this year alone.

Link me to the Nagao threads from even 2024. I doubt any existed in that rare an air, and if even one existed Ryan Crookham and Dylan Ragusin wiped it out.

Oh, it's right next to your post above saying Nasir Bailey already achieved becoming a title threat at Iowa

It is good for you two to take a time out from the Iowa boards.

I know the stall criteria has been updated somewhat, but it just looks bad when one team gets all the calls in a dual where 9 of their wrestlers combine for 3 TDs.

I’d be impressed with a post saying he was a title threat in any year. I can’t recall one. We were happy to have him, he filled a hole. This year he likely was the hole and now may be injured and out, we shall see. Also I don’t recall ever hearing about big money going his way?? If you can provide a link to that too, even if it’s just message board speculation, I’d love to see that too as I don’t recall ever hearing that either. 🤷‍♂️

Sure!

I hope to see him win multiple NCAA titles... Luckily he's chosen a pretty good place to hone those skills and a coaching staff with a half decent track record of guiding guys to NCAA titles.

Quick Google search, not even the full-tilt stuff from Twitter and the other message boards:

  • I was hoping he would. This kid will win a National Championship at PSU. Great news!
  • With this happening they have the potential to have 8 in the finals. Based solely on this year's positions. 8 that were in the top 5 of their weight classes

The decision to enter the transfer portal all came down to Nagao’s goals - and they’re big. "I want to be a 3-time national champion, I want to win the Olympics, and win worlds."... along with scoring 14 points at the 2023 NCAA tournament, Nagao is currently ranked #3 in our “Way Too Early” NCAA rankings and will be the main contender to take out the likes of Vito Arujau and Daton Fix next season.

Nagao fits nicely into that same 133-pound lineup spot now that Bravo-Young has graduated. Nagao has the kind of slickness Penn State fans were used to from their champion lightweight, and the former Minnesota wrestler has the skills necessary to become an individual champ for his new team.

https://www.ncaa.com/news/wrestling-men/article/2023-07-05/5-major-mens-college-wrestling-transfer-portal-moves-and-how-they-impact-2024

After that season [at Minnesota], he transferred to Penn State, where he’ll look to become a two-time All-American– and win his first national championship... Nagao’s goal is to be a three-time national champ, and less than two months after last year’s national championships, he decided he wanted to succeed RBY at 133 and transfer to Penn State.

So a crazy person (Jimmy), Flo and NCAA.com click bait, and NittanySportsNow? basically saying the kid wants to win some titles? I’m not an English major but I didn’t interpret that as a prediction to win.

But hey, it’s something I guess, but I think the initial challenge was PSU fans on message boards…namely our message boards…spouting off that he’s gonna win in 2024. It could be there, I just don’t recall seeing it, certainly not from anyone credible…the PSU boards have their Jimmy’s too. But I guess some people thought he could and wrote about it. I wasn’t one of them. 🤷‍♂️
I’ll give this 3 out of 5 stars for the effort.
Also noticed a mention there that PSU wasn’t the highest bidder for his services but he still came…🤷‍♂️

Let me get this straight, PSU fans want us to believe that no one thought Nagao, coming off a 5th place finish at NCAAs, would get into PSU's room with 3 years eligibility and never contend for a title because no one cares enough to find a link?

Have some faith in your coaches guys.  Its pretty reasonable to think PSU could turn a freshman 5th placer into a title contender after RBY graduated.  He beat Mendez for 5th place the year before and Nagao would of been the 4th highest returning AA the next season.

Either you guys think Tom Ryan is better at developing talent than Cael or you are remember Nagao with hindsight and claiming he is a nice room guy but was never a title contender.

That stuff wasn't the fan base, it was fluff journalism plus Nagao's own comments which are the same of every wrestler going to all top schools "I think I can win a NCAA Championship here" type stuff. Kids who wind up as room guys say these same things.
