You read it right. Iowas problem is Dan Gable. More specifically - the inability of the coaching staff to move past his coaching style.

Jim Zalesky tried being Gable & failed. He somehow could not move past it and put his stamp on the team.

Tom has the same problem, though is a bit more successful with it. Where Zalesky was quiet Brands is vocal & excitable. Gable was, but he was always in control with his wrestlers & never lost sight of the prize. Brands is excitable & too often it seems scripted.

Until Iowa coaches can make the program their own it will be second banana with success while seldom reaching the top.

Iowa will be wishing it's 2nd banana in the future. I think the only thing going for Iowa at this time is it's tradition, I bet you few if any HS wrestlers today ever saw either of the Brands wrestle, even on Youtube. The Brands boys came along just after John Smith did, and neither accomplished anything near what John did as wrestlers (yes, they were still great wrestlers, but not as great as Smith). Kids like to be coached by guys with a more recent pedigree than Tom or Terry. Those guys are fossils, and I say that as a guy who is John Smith's age. Sure, Cael is pushing 50, but he's still got that one shiny trophy no other NCAA coach has: a 159-0 record, and you can bet every HS kid in America who takes wrestling seriously knows it.

I'm surprised Iowa recruits as well as they do, to be completely honest, with guys like Taylor and Cael encouraging their guys to actually (gasp) HAVE FUN ON THE MAT, rather than "pushing through the pain" which the Brands like so much. If I was a hot HS wrestler I wouldn't even consider Iowa, to be honest, and this coming from a guy who actually likes the Hawkeyes (somewhat) and respects their tradition. I don't like how their teams seem to come in at NCAAs all beaten to shit year after year, and how they underperform as a consequence. It's like the Brands brothers think every practice should be a soul-sundering pushing of limits, with high potential for injury, rather than just working technique and endurance.  It's macho bullshit. Toughness has a place in this sport, obviously, but toughness is only a small part of it. Yeah, the Hawkeyes looked pretty good against Oklahoma State last weekend, but by the end of the season the Cowboys will be finishing at least 20points ahead of the Hawkeyes at NCAAs. Sig bet on that, anyone?

How many of these threads are we going to do this season?  I'm sure Cinnabon has 15 lined up

Here's a graph Wkn left behind showing number of stupid Jimmy threads by month of wrestling season.  March will be brutal!

Iowa is rumored to be so bad off right now the ncaa is going to invent European soccer style relegation for wrestling only.  They will be relegated to NAIA as soon as next year I hear.    They are so bad off they are the only program that will be relegated.

Maybe we should start a committee and out Jimmy Jimmy.  With our combined effort we could go dumber

Agavemaria = tequila Jimmy???

can you make tequila with ingredients in a cinnabon

Short answer: yes — but it won’t be actual tequila.
It can taste like a “Cinnabon-style tequila cocktail,” but you can’t literally distill tequila from cinnamon rolls. Tequila can legally only come from blue agave.

BUT if your mission is “make something that tastes like tequila using ONLY ingredients you can find in a Cinnabon” — we can get surprisingly close to a cinnamon-caramel tequila liqueur using what’s around.

Does gene mills know how to make a Cinnabon roll using agave as a sweetner

I couldn’t find any credible source that General Mills (or a person named “Gene Mills”) has published a cinnamon-roll recipe using agave as the sweetener.

Iowa also really struggles with scrambling as they're too busy practicing that one move to just roll around.

Iowa has a ton of guys who scramble well

Zalesky won titles in 3 out of 6 years as the Iowa HC. Brands won titles in 4 out of 18 years. Both are better at what they do than I will ever be at anything—so I’m not knocking anyone—just questioning whether Zalesky “failed.”

Anyone could’ve won those titles with the foundation Gable left

Same is true without Brands first couple years with double recruits.

LOL.   There's delusional and then there's posts like that.

You need to lay off the drugs...or maybe you need to up the dosage.  Either way, they aren't helping.

Who on there starting lineup does not scramble well would be a better question.
