Bill Bassett says “a couple of our guys are going to be moving onto college early,” then says “we’ll have to see” what Jax does.   He technically didn’t even rule out Bo wrestling at NCAA’s this year.

very interesting. if Jax goes NCAA for 2nd semester, Bo's ego won't let him not go as well.

I think that was just Bill trying to troll us.   They wouldn’t have redshirted Henson if that was a significant possibility

I don't think Bill can spell "troll", and I don't think Bo's ego can be kept in check. You might be right, but we will see.

I think that Bo could still go early, but not compete, just RS for the 2nd sem to get training in. I think he stays at McCourt though

Good theory, and he could still compete in the 5 dates right?  They do wrestle OK State on 2/15…

Seeing people saying that Jax will wrestle second sem, but stay in RS. That makes sense to me, they could use him in the Iowa and ISU duals but don't "waste" a year of his NCAA points. Especially since he was never going to RS next year so this is not changing anything, just giving him an extra semester of college expereince/training (plus some chances to win some big matches).

Who knows tho

That’s actually a great point, can use him in big matches like a hired gun like Iowa did with Ferrari last year.  Jax beating Ayala at 133 could be the difference in winning the dual

same thing with beating Frost in the ISU dual

I think the intent will be to use his 5 dates and get him in the room, but I wonder if he beats either or both guys badly if the wheels start spinning to just let him go in March.

If he destroys the Iowa and Iowa St 33s it would be hard to leave him home in March.

David Taylor gave a Bill Belichick answer when asked about jax.  I think Jax is gonna wrestle.  It solidifies second place for the cowboys and gives them a hail Mary shot at dethroning penn state.

He is certified if you go over to the roster tab. Listed at 141 so that means he weighed between 133.1 and 141.0 when he certified.

No reason to certify him if he is going to grayshirt (I don't even think you are allowed to do so if he is not an eligible student-athlete) so it seems like we are down to either redshirt or wrestle for Oklahoma State. Either way, he could still go in up to 5 dates before that decision.

Jax Forrest about to become our Cooper Flagg. Dude "reclassifies" (for lack of a better term) and is going to wreck the NCAA as a wolf in freshman sheep's clothing. The downstream impact over the next 5 years is going to be interesting for Forrest and for other elite recruits.

Yeah seemed like grayshirting never made sense.  Not like he was going to redshirt next year, so may as well at least use the free dates this year (and maybe wrestle postseason)

A 19 year old college freshman is crazy.  Pretty soon we are gonna start seeing 18 year old college freshmen.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

I doubt we see Forest in action this year.  This is a move to train and get better against college guys since he has outgrown his options in PA.

5 free dates why not use them?

Jax is gonna go.  133 is gonna be crazy with Byrd, Davino, Blaze, Ayala, Frost and the Larkin kid looks good too.  What if crookham comes back? Any news on him? Guys like knox and fuggit are gonna have a hard time reaching the podium again.

When was he held back? Was it pre-k/kindergarten or was it 8th grade? Because Wikipedia says he has an October birthday and there are plenty of children, especially boys, who are delayed a year in part because of scientifically documented maturation concerns.

Btw how old is Amos and how old was he as a freshman? Isn't he going to be a 25 year old junior this year? Let's not go throwing stones in glass houses.

Yeah, I feel like most people I know turned 19 their freshman year without being holdbacks. Jax is now the normal age for his grade if he enrolls this year

Source: trust me bro

But genuinely, there is a ton of research out there of pros and cons. We had to go through it ourselves when one of ours was on the cusp. It is much more related to mental and emotional maturity, particularly with boys, than holding out hope that one day our little Johnny was going to become a sports phenom. Which never crossed our minds considering my wife and I both fell into the same birthday window and we weren't held back but had pretty good results as kids and became D1 athletes despite being the youngest in our grades. We just want what is best for our kids to give them the best chance to succeed in the real world. My story is anecdotal of course, but just saying the valid studies are out there and athletics was never even in the picture.

Research shows kids starting school and learning early has benefit for education and long term development.  Id think there'd need to be specific reasons for hold back else negative impact on educational development.
