The kid that beat Bates took down Dineen twice in the first period (almost 3 times) and looked like he was going to whip him but hit a wall and Dineen came back and beat him 10-8.

Bates ended up beating Harris for third, Kade Moore also came back for third. If that’s not the most Kade thing then idk what is

Overall for Mizzzou-

125 -
Mauger looked great all day until the final 20 seconds of the finals. Same thing that happened against Terukina last year controlling the match and then give up points in the last 10 seconds. It is weird this year after 6 years of Noah Surtin, who lived on space mountain and I loved it. Now going  to a very steady Mauger is just something I am not used to seeing at 125. But he looks to have grown into the weight which was my biggest concern with him.
Hank Benter- True fresh, wrestling his first meet even though he went 0-2 he lost to Roark 10-6 it was 7-6. Then lost in OT to Jeremiah Reno on a danger call. Both matches he was behind early and came back to tie or get close. I was pleased with the way he wrestled.

133-
Kade Moore- Getting majored by a true freshman wrestling his first College match. Then comeback and win 4 in a row and pin the #17 ranked Boarman. He was taken down 6 times while on getting three. I think both Moore and Walker will wrestle at Soldier Salute and if Walker does better. You might see his redshirt pulled.

Gerald Harris went 0-2 I thought he looked good. He wrestled two national qualifiers and lost 4-1 (Boarman) and 2-1 (Moore). He could be a diamond in the rough.

141-
Zeke Seltzer- WOW, he looked very good. beating former qualifier Tyler Wells and #17 Greyson Clark in OT. He has a gas tank big time. This was the Zeke Seltzer I was looking forward to seeing when they recruited him. Of course two years ago, he beat Zeth Romney and lost in tie breakers to Nasir Bailey at Tiger Style Invite. So we will see.
Easton Hilton- Beat #23 Alex Braun 13-0. Ended up taking 4th. But looked good.
Owen Uhls- 0-2 losing to Clark and Braun.
I will say this. I have heard Mendoza beats them all in the room. If that is the case. I am really looking forward to him.

149-
Josh Edmond - Looked good. Did Josh things. Basically dominated every match while not lighting up the scored board. I will say this his leg defense looked better than the previous two years. Which I always thought was one of his major weaknesses.

Nathan Pulliam- Won on DQ from an illegal cutback. He was injured. I hope it is just a sprain. The kid is a senior and has battled injuries. I fear he might be done. He has looked great a few times in his career beating people like Jordan Williams, Gabe Willochel, and Noah Castillo. But never seems to stay healthy.

157-

Conway - Did Conway stuff. Looks like he going to get that signature win that might move him up the rankings and then lose in OT. He MFF out of the tournament after the semis. It was a hard takedown. I hope he is OK and ready to go next week.
True Freshman David Gleason - I thought for his first college meet he looked very good. Was behind big his first Match against Stoney Buell and then almost came back. He was down 11-1 and came back to lost 15-10. Then Got another comeback win. Then his final match you could tell he hurt something cause after he got thrown. He had no fight and got up gingerly. I hope he is ok.

165-
Max Mayfield looked good.  But I wish the others would have been there like #3 Blaze, #5 Bianchi, #7 Keller (who wrestled at the Bison Open and took 4th), or #10 Rhodes. But you can only wrestle who is in front of you. Get a better read next week.

Danny Heiser- 3rd place. Looked good future is bright for the kid.

Joel Mylin - took 5th. The senior is a good fill in. Last year he wrestled from 157-174. He might have to go to 157 if Conway & Gleason are hurt.

Bambinelli - Took 6th losing to Mayfield, Heiser, and Mylin. But is technically 2-0 with two majors over kids not wearing a Mizzou singlet. I think Heiser and Bambinelli are going to push each other and the future at 165 looks bright at Mizzou.

174-
I don't know if Steed was injured at some point or what. But he looked like he had no tank after the first period and wrestled the worst I have seen him in a Mizzou uniform. But not worried that much for now.

True Freshman Peyton Westpfahl went 2-2 and took 5th. Not bad. He was 1-1 vs. Mizzou wrestlers. Beating Jake Stoffel and getting pinned by Steed.

Jake Stoffel. 6th. Looked good against Schubert on basically a reversal with each of them giving up two points in Stalling calls. Then losing to Westpfahl in OT and Espinosa-Owens.

184-
Sinclair looked amazing. But didn't wrestle any starters. Brian Soldano MFF to him in the finals. Which was a complete bummer cause that was the match I was looking forward to the most out of the entire tournament.

Logan Cole- Looked very good. Splitting matches with #26 Brock Fettig. Losing to Saldano in the semis. Overall thumbs up.

197-
Evan Bates - besides the 10 second period where he got thrown to his back in the first match. I thought he might wrestled the best of any Mizzou wrestled besides Sinclair. After that loss he won by Tech, Pin, and two Majors (17-4 over the kid that beat him). I wish I could have seen the Bates vs. Parker match. Which was probably the #2 matchup I wanted to see in the tournament.

285-
Jarrett Stoner- Getting beat 11-5 to someone you beat last year is not good. I was hoping to see Jacobi Jackson in the tournament as well, With Stoner, Jackson, and Stillwell. Dom Bradley has a lot to work with and I think we will see improvement out of whomever they put out there at 285 lbs.

Overall, I think the true freshman wrestled pretty well. even the ones that went 0-2. 4 champs is good (should have had 5). Next week National Duals against Iowa.

Great summary!  A couple of other points;   (1) I thought the depth of Mizzou was noticeably improved from last year.  Seemed like last year there was a huge drop off after the starters.  (2) Really disappointed to not see Mendoza in he lineup.  If he's beating Seltzer (best I've ever seen him wrestle) he's gonna be good; if we can get him on the mat.  (3) Really like Mauger's style.  Very solid stance, quick and good technique.  Only gonna get better!  (4) Loved seeing Bambinelli.  Thought he wrestled very well.  Was impressed though with how Mayfield handled Bambinelli.  Confirms Bambinelli needs his redshirt year AND how good Mayfield is looking.  (5) really surprised at the first match Bates had (and lost).  It looked like something was out of kilter (maybe still recovering from making weight?).  All issues except Kade Morre seem to be fixable in the short term.  Looking forward to wrestling some tougher competition!

It was mentioned, but the fact Boogie Harris lost 2-0 to Moore is something I’m going to keep an eye on. Moore is serviceable but he’s by no means a world beater. Maybe it’s room familiarity or something else, but Boogie looks to be a good one. Can’t believe nobody was recruiting him until his dad posted on the wrestling room facebook page asking for help. He was on the same team as Sneed and Jordan Williams before transferring after one season

You went and checked results you did not watch these matches don’t trust scoreboard operators Stoffell 2 points where both escapes he did nothing in the whole match but stall same with a lot of your other dialogue watch the matches maybe?

Obviously, I don't know how they match up in the practice room.  But if 2-0 is representative of how close it is, the fact that Boogie is a Freshman, he's going to develop faster and in larger chunks than Moore is at this stage in his college career.  Give Boogie more exposure and a chance to take the starting spot!  I thought Boogie looked pretty good; very quick!

I did watch the match. It was a winnable match and in truth neither did much. But in retrospect that kid beat Steed as well. Could he have wrestled better yes. But he was in the match. I try remain positive for all the kids.

They are legal adults.

Of note, and just a number thing here, but Evan Frost weighed in at 139.1lbs.

That means he can be at 133lbs (132.2lbs) by November 22nd.

I wasn't at first because I was a 17 year old Freshman.

I don’t know how you watched this match and said Schubert had 2 stall calls against him, Which makes me questions your takes that’s all. How do you not “do much” and get 2 stalling points against a guy can you educate me? A real breakdown would be Schubert controlled the match but Stoffel kept himself in the match with a chance to win. I get we all have roses colored glasses for our team I think LR is better than OU.

Intermat rankings (new today) shows Mizzou's Seltzer ranked 19.  On the surface, it makes sense as well as he wrestled over the weekend and since Mendoza hasn't wrestled at all.  Are we sure Mendoza isn't going to redshirt?  Mendoza is also listed on the match preview in the Iowa dual set for this weekend.

If Mendoza redshirts, I think it's because Seltzer is better (or the coaches think he'll perform better at least). In today's age of transfer portal, roster caps, possible 5 for 5 looming, it's almost silly to redshirt if you're the best guy (barring injury).

5 for 5 looming in 2028… and probably not at all, expect things to go on as they have been for at least 3 years then some grand father clause clear out so more like 2030… and it’s very unlikely to even happen in the first place. I don’t think coaches are worried about this at all.

If Mendoza redshirts, I think it's because Seltzer is better (or the coaches think he'll perform better at least). In today's age of transfer portal, roster caps, possible 5 for 5 looming, it's almost silly to redshirt if you're the best guy (barring injury).

This result is from December 2024 so a lot could have changed but Mendoza beat Vega 4-0 at Ironman then. Seltzer is very good, but I just feel like Mendozas trajectory leans more towards him improving more so in that time span given their age. Someone mentioned the weight has been an issue for Seth though.

In several interviews with Coach Smith about upcoming season he said there was a really good chance Mendoza would be the starter at 141.  Smith was not asked directly about Mendoza but offered that info on his own as he stated the probable lineup.  Weight might be an issue but with the competition they have wrestled and their own tournament if it was a weight issue why not just let him wrestle at 149.  More than likely he would have walked through one side of the bracket and then not wrestle Edmond in the final.  If I had money to bet I would bet he might be dinged a little and why push it for no reason.

Let's be honest were any of us adults in college? But by the law yes. Still try to remain positive.

I voted so I was dumb enough to make unsound decisions.  Sounds like an adult to me!

I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I’ve been waiting on this version of Seltzer. Have and still do have high hopes for him. Top 10 recruit in the nation. He couldn’t hold 133 as a freshman, last year was a little rough, but maybe he’s grown into 141 and now is his time. I still would like to to Mendoza also. Big things in store for him.
