No Diakomihalis (not sure he's the starter anyway), Shapiro, Cornella, or Fernandez in the first semester. Is this academic or is Cornell just doing what everyone wants to do an shortening the season for anyone who seems injury inclined?

Could it be a way to maximize their eligibility due to the constraints of Ivy League?

Cornell doesn't care about Duals, PERIOD!

I think Gregor Diak has a better chance at starting at 125lbs than Fernandez does at 149lbs, fwiw.

Greg D, Cornella, and Fernandez can't enroll this semester without graduating this semester, so they are sitting out to wrestle in the second semester (the one that counts).  Yes, due to Ivy rules.  Shapiro is on a pitch count, and I *guess* that he's saving his Ivy eligibility just in case there is an injury issue in the future.

Most think Greg can beat Milani at 125; Fernandez has to get past Jaxon Joy at 149, and most think he won't.

(and, no, I haven't taken a poll)

Are you suggesting Ivy student athletes are tricky smart?  🤔

Any chance we see Fernandez try to find himself a spot if that gap between him and Joy widens (if Joy is even above him).  Meaning maybe he goes 157/165?

Nope.  Fernandez bumped up from 133 to 149 a couple of years ago.  Way too small to be anything heavier.  Shapiro at 157, of course.  149 is his only choice.

I think many of the Ivies do this in wrestling and other sports.  Might also save the atheletes some tuition dollars they do not need to spend to graduate.

Then the other side of that question is, do we see him try to go 141lbs, if he cannot beat Joy out at 149lbs?

He'd have to beat Cornella and Josh Saunders, and frosh Bouyssou.  I think he'll try to beat Joy.

Some depth!   I think Cornell's second team would be formidable, might be a good match with PSU's second team.

Not sure if they have the depth at every weight to make that match up interesting at this point. They do have decent depth from 125- 149 though, which is fitting for a top 10 type of team. Without ivy transfer rules being what they are, we’d likely see the transfer portal fill up with some of that depth, which is what happens in other conferences.

Probably accurate. 149 is his ideal weight. Wonder if anyone is considering Joy for 157 in a scenario where Meyer doesn’t go. Would be a much more natural weight for him, and may be inevitable if sustaining 149 is too much over the course of 4-5 months (he’s taller than Foca!). His scenario reminds a bit of Ty Watters 2 seasons ago. Clearly had a mission to  be a monster 149 and AA before filling out to a more natural weight. I bet Grey sees Joy as a being in a similar boat.

Cornell has in the pipeline blue chip recruits Toscano, Turi, Travis, Perentin, and Jeter from 149 through 165, with Cerchio currently a freshman at 165.

I agree that Joy is probably going to be too much for Fernandez. However I also believe that, other than Cornella, he would easily handle Saunders and Bouyssou. It may be in his best interest to certify at '41 in case of a not too unlikely injury occurring to Cornella
