New Pac 12 Conference

Oregon State, Cal Poly, Little Rock, CSUB, Air Force, Northern Colorado, North Dakota State and South Dakota State, Northern Illinois - with more possibly to come.

Looks good! I hope the Pac thrives. The west needs wrestling.

Have all of these Programs in the newly expanded Pac 12 “opted in” ?  If so, would that be a requirement for Tarleton St. to also join the Pac 12 ?

With new Pac 12 Conference & affiliates wouldn't the wrestling community make a strong case to reinstate Boise State wrestling program?

I don't think TSU would be required to opt-in to revenue sharing, but they already have. I think the only full Pac-12 schools are automatically opted-in since the conference was the ones who were sued in the House case.

Sounds like a good plan. I don't know what BSU's financial situation is like, but with that idiot Apsey gone and baseball eliminated (again), why not make a case for wrestling?

The Pac12 is an opt-in conference for members. For wrestling, the only affiliate I am not aware of opting in was Air Force. Tarleton State had already opted in prior to joining the  Pac12 for wrestling.  Here is a list: https://www.collegesportscommission.org/participating-schools

Geographically, I hope it does not lead to travel cost hardships for NIU.  That’s a huge mileage difference then the MAC.

I agree... it didn't really make sense geographically. It did make sense from a competition and rights standpoint. If I remember correctly, the first year all the new teams flooded the Big12, the new teams did not have to compete in a full conference schedule the first year or maybe couple of years.

It would be great to have BSU reinstate wrestling. There is an effort in the Boise area to bring wrestling back to BSU. Just last month there was a petition circulating to bring it back. The problem is money and Title IX.  Currently BSU's student population is about 57% Female and 43 percent male. They have 4 or 5 more sports for females than males, however the roster sizes as a whole are slightly lower for females despite having more sports. This is mostly due to the increased football roster to 105. All that to say, that they would need to join it with womens wrestling, which would be great or add another women's sport.  All that takes money, and BSU is a low budget school. Despite 28k enrollment, there are not a lot of huge donors you see at other schools. So could it happen? Yes. Would it be difficult? Yes. AD Jeremiah Dickey has said that they were interested in wrestling, but that was a while back.

Great interview with Pac12 coaches this week on the expansion of the Pac12. They bring up some good ideas...

* Dual matches are gaining more popularity, while tournaments outside of conference and NCAA are going down in attendance. (Now with National Duals being a week after the best tourney CKLV that will impact it even more).

* Final Four conference dual matches - interesting idea.

* Pac12 may have a West and East conference when it's all said and done

Waiting for Tarleton State wrestling news is like the teasing from an old Apple product launch. Leeth should walk onto stage in a black turtleneck to make the announcement a la Steve Jobs.

It has felt like it's been at the goal line for-ev-ver now; to the point where I'm getting nervous about the holdup
