BREAKING: The FCC Chairman is threatening immediate action against Jimmy Kimmel, ABC, and Disney for deliberately misleading the public by claiming Charlie Kirk’s assassin was a MAGA Conservative.

Chairman Brendan Carr calls Kimmel’s malicious lies are “truly sick” and says they should result in Kimmel's immediate suspension and may lead to ABC losing its broadcast license.

Pretty scary stuff. I'm sure they would do this if somebody said a liberal did something when it was a conservative, right? NOT.

Becoming more like a autocracy every day. Wingers can cheer this on but just wait until Trump is gone. Won't be cheering anymore.

If you can lose your license for occasionally providing false information, Fox would have lost their license several years ago. They lie constantly.

If ABC loses its license can we send rv to the Zoo?  🦒

The Zoo just put out the CLOSED for renovations sign. Maybe North Korea is looking for a very capable person to add to their country or maybe Iran.

But the Liberals aren't in charge. Elections have consequences. I wonder who made that statement famous.

We'll see what you're saying when the wingers lose their power. Total right-wing hypocrisy. I"lol vote for the most vindictive, nastiest liberal ever.

You aren't the least bit spiteful are you.

Yes this can be applied horribly by either of the political spectrum.  The problem really isn't speculation, it is trying to pass off speculation as the real deal.   If you say you are speculating, then it is ok.   When you say he was maga when he wasn't, then that is speculation and  not saying so.   I don't think there is anything wrong with holding these media types to some level of honest reporting.   Ideally, the people would do that.   But it appears that does not happen.

That’s kinda what happens when laws stop being enforced.  There’s no incentive and the pay’s the same for doing nothing.

That was pretty quick.    I am happy that a broadcast network takes the threat of losing its broadcast license seriously.

Carr of the FCC cited this:

Carr has justified his hands-on approach by citing a 1934 law which states that “because a given broadcast network is granted airwaves to use exclusively as its own, it needs to operate in ‘public interest, convenience and necessity,” according to The WSJ.

Is misleading the public in the public interest, convenience and necessity?   I don't think so.   Kimmel made a statement, not an opinion.   He stated as fact that the shooter was maga because maga is doing everything they can to not have him be maga.   Well, the shooter is not maga.   If you don't know if the shooter is maga, don't say he is.   It's very simple.   Conjecture is not news.   But conjecture provided as truth and news is news and can mislead people into believing falsehoods.   That is not in the public interest, convenience, and necessity.  At least in my opinion.

All Kimmel had to do was say this was his opinion, or this is satire, or a joke, and he probably would have been fine.   But he was too full of himself and has gotten away with this sort of thing for so long that he was not concerned with the truth of the matter because he didn't need to tell the truth before.   I think he, and ABC, have a different opinion now.

Kimmel did it religiously.  This is a collective thing and this pushed it over the edge.

I am surprised you all are not complaining about the weaponization of the FCC.

Ha, just kidding. I am not surprised at all.

Now compare and contrast to Fox making up from whole cloth the store about the Dominion voting machines. Did the FCC threaten to pull Fox's license? No, it did not.

That was a while ago, but didn’t they back off from any further suggestion and let the Mattress Guy take the fall?

In the case of Jimmy Kimmel the fcc really doesn’t need to get involved.  A couple owners of a number of abc stations told Disney it’s done carrying Kimmel. Free market has spoken.

Were you a staunch Gina Carano defender when they fired her?
