There is no crime problem in Chicago.   We don't need federal assistance because there is no crime problem in Chicago.  We have it covered.

Alternative:   There is no crime problem in DC.   We don't need federal assistance because there is no crime problem in DC.  We have it covered.    Oh, I guess DC crime is down remarkably after the federal assistance.   We will work more closely with the feds on keeping our crime down.

First is stupid.   The second is stupid too, but enlightened with new info.

To a hammer everything looks like a threat to your world view.
Hospitals? Really?!
How stupid could you be to say something like this?
How bias could you be to not immediately disavow this comment and pivot to ‘but crime somewhere else unrelated..’(might as well ask about her emails)?

It must be exhausting having to continually bend yourself into pretzels to defend the indefensible.

The basis of this thread is Stupidity is a Competitive Category.   I merely provided a counter to the Rs are stupid with a Ds are stupid.

I dont think the rep from UT thought this through clearly.   I would not have said this.   However, if his data is correct and more than million people are dying in hospitals, it would be good to know what this means.   End of life scenario?  Surgery gone bad?   Someone went in for a broken leg and died of pneumonia contracted at the hospital?

Don't go to the hospital unless you want to get sick.   That's pretty much what I understand.   I try to stay away from those places.   But more info on what he is trying to say would be helpful.   This is similar to the argument that x people die of gun violence trying to make it look like gangland out there when more than half are suicide.   Another case of statistics are lies.

That said, it is stupid of D politicians saying there is no crime issue and Trump has it wrong.   Bowser said that too and has now changed her tune.   There is a crime problem in big cities and more active police officers is an answer as shown in DC.   Another is actually prosecuting criminals rather than letting them out on no cash bail or just releasing them or not charging them.   The guy that killed the lady on the light rail was a many time arrested and many time convicted criminal.   It is ridiculous to say crime is not a problem and we can handle it when it is apparent, Chicago is not handling it and DC was not until help arrived.   Hopefully DC can keep a handle on it so it doesn't spike to its pre "fed help" levels.

There is a difference between “federal assistance” and the military sent to American cities to police the citizens.

And it is an important distinction to make.  One is good and is not at all a new format.  The other so very not good that 250 years ago some very wise and brave men started a revolution to get rid of it.  Slowly getting people comfortable with…or even in favor of it is not a good progression.

There is a difference in ‘military’ and National Guard.  There is a difference in sending the National Guard to assist and sending the military as the sole unit of enforcement.  The English military you are referring to were enforcing the King’s laws, without representation of the subjects.

Nearly every single person who has ever been born in the entire history of the world has died. The Population Reference Bureau loosely estimates that about 117 billion people have been born since the dawn of man. Yet, only 8 billion live today. This is a scandal of epic proportion, and no one is talking about it.

We need to get to the bottom of this. The one thing these poor souls have in common is that each and every one of them was born to a woman. Therefore we must ban woman to end all this needless suffering and death.

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

I don’t necessarily disagree with you here, with the sidenote that all of the branches of the military, of which the national guard is in fact one, are different.  But more to the point, there is a reason I included the “slowly getting comfortable with……not a good progression” portion of my comments. I don’t know if there is a reason you cut out that portion of my comments when quoting. But as I’ve said on this topic before, slippery slopes have a point of no return.

Yes, this is true.   But when someone states this, it is mostly held in derision.

Except for gun laws right ?   No slippery slope there ?

Don’t know that I agree with that.  But more to the point, if “this is true”….isn’t that what matters?

It does matter true.   But the next time someone says doing x will cause a slippery slope effect y, they will be laughed at.   We see it all the time.

Oh.  Oye veye. Not to be disrespectful to what abouts, but If you don’t mind I’m going to stay on topic on this one. There are threads in here about gun laws.

Gotcha.  Well I kind of operate in a manner where, if what I’m saying is true, I’m not bothered by people laughing at it. It’s up to them whether or not they want to see truth, or just accept whatever is comfortable for their psyche.
