Yeah, they're packing thousands of people, many of whom haven't had due process, into a camp full of  cages in the middle of Florida summer.

Generally, when you pack thousands of people into a camp for a political purpose (the majority of these people have committed the equivalent of a speeding ticket), while using it for political show, producing merchandise and making a joke about prisoners being eaten by alligators, yeah...I think that qualifies as a concentration camp.

Like everything with Trump, the cruelty of the spectacle is the point. They could accomplish these mass deportations in a much more humane way (he still hasn't deported as many people as Obama), but the whole point is that his base gets off on the cruelty. You enjoy seeing people you don't like suffer.

There are clergy services, medical services, legal services, and a judge(s) on site for the purpose of expediting the hearings (due process) for the detained illegal immigrants.  There is even full air conditioning in each of the units.   As stated the true measure will be if innocents end up there for periods of time, and/or if the hearings process as laid out does not come to fruition.   At that point, you may have something.  But as it's planned and laid out it is not at all what you describe.

I agree 100% that this is a spectacle, just like everything else the wingers put on. I can't believe we have what is now a 3-page thread about a prison or whatever it is surrounded by gators. The gators mean nothing substantive.

On which you have posted about 20 times, being a large contributor to pushing it to three pages....

??  Again, I am far from a supporter of Trump, but this facility was set up to in fact give the illegal immigrants speedy "due process".  And just read what you write about this..."pack thousands of people into a camp for a political purpose...." seriously??  Like I said you are skewing everything to fit a political ideology versus taking it for what it is worth...these are illegal immigrants that need to go somewhere to get their "due process"...why not use that area to do just that??  And if you are going to get your undies in a bunch over what people are calling the facility...LOL, get thicker skin man/girl/they.

And your last paragraph is utter nonsense and laughable.

There is debate whether it is air conditioned. Many observers had said it's not. Trump admin has said it *will* have AC which is not the same as it *does* have AC.

Who are these 'many observers' you are talking about and where have you found them.  I am seriously curious. I have been following this very closely as it is in my back yard (and this is a very slow holiday week).  Have not seen one mention challenging this point.  There is footage of the AC units, and the units running.   This would be evidence it has AC.

I read an article (in the Post or Times) that said that. Glad to hear they were wrong!

As long as they are moving people through quickly, then I agree it is not a concentration camp.

However, the merchandise being sold is extremely distasteful. Most of the people being deported are good people going through the worst time of their life. We shouldn't be celebrating that, even if you think it's right (not accusing you personally at all).

Edit: It was this article and I slightly misread, so owning that.

Here's the sentence:

Opponents have slammed the scheme as inhumane, with one X user comparing footage of the site to “a concentration camp” and adding that they couldn’t see any air conditioning or vents inside the facility.

coupled with:

But government officials insist the site will have 24/7 air conditioning to survive the sweltering Florida heat and humidity.

In the context of slightly misreading the first, I interpreted "will have" as "does not currently have." It's unclear whether those accusations are founded or not.

Never say I'm not willing to admit I'm wrong!

Well with the footage of the running air conditioning units on site, it could be a lesson that your......."many observers" (or one random X user).....maybe cannot always be trusted, and that it is actually very clear that the accusation (from one random X user) is not founded.

It’s okay to support law enforcement in upholding immigration laws.

What evidence suggests that “Alligator Alcatraz” merchandise is gloating at suffering?  This is not bad (below).

Most Americans support deporting illegal aliens and deterring future illegal immigration. The facility’s rapid construction and planned due process efficiency is impressive.

While you focus on victimization, others focus on National Sovereignty.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I admitted I was wrong and took ownership.

Do prisons usually produce their own merchandise?

I'm not saying it's illegal. I just think it's extremely distasteful and clearly meant to rile up the base over deportations. The risk here is dehumanizing the people getting deported. You may think it's funny and cool to rep the "Alligator Alcatraz" shirt, but it's not funny to the person whose Grandma just got sent there.

Just a matter of class. It's possible to believe in the deportation policy and not feel ecstatic joy at people getting their American Dream shattered.

Supporting law enforcement is not funny.  Gloating at inhumane treatment is not funny.

This is not inhumane.

It’s wrong to assume most supporters of deportation take ecstatic joy in others’ hardship. That’s a strawman/misrepresentation. Those who gloat over suffering are bad people, but Alligator Alcatraz merchandise is more like MAGA gear, showing support for border security and deterring illegal immigration. Like ‘Thin Blue Line’ T-shirts for law enforcement, it’s about backing policy... not cruelty.

so you want them to be punished MORE severely?

  • In July 2014, a new "Central Processing Center" (CPC) was opened in McAllen, Texas, which was described as being clean, spacious, and air-conditioned, providing improved conditions compared to existing facilities.
  • One article from 2018 describes a detention center in Nogales as being clean and air-conditioned, according to a caption from an Associated Press photo of unaccompanied minors sleeping in a holding cell.
Facilities with Reported Cold Temperatures:
  • Some facilities, particularly temporary holding cells near the border, known as "hieleras" or "iceboxes," were criticized for their frigid temperatures and harsh conditions. These facilities were designed for short-term stays but often held people for days.
  • Reports indicated that officers in some holding cells would increase the air conditioning to punish detainees.

Agree to disagree. I very much think the merchandise is geared to those who take joy in the deportations.
