Who's gonna be there?

65- Bassett, Bartlett, Mendez, Woods, and Valencia are all pretty likely to be there. Do we see Nick Lee? Brock Hardy? Stanich try to double up? Lovett, Henson or SVN? Anyone else?

70- Duke, Green, Parker, Lewan, and Andonian are probably locks. Does Zain show up? Taylor or Kasak? Lovett, Henson or SVN?

74- Car, Monday, Jacques, Bearclaw, Hall should be there. Is there anyone else of note? Caliendo maybe? Lockett/Sealey?

79- Hamiti, Ruiz, Kharcala, McBryde, Monday from the Open. Would hope we see Haines, maybe Carr moves up? Nolf unretires? Burroughs? Dake or Marsteller cut from 86?

86- Dake, Chance, Keck, Welsh and Coleman I would anticipate we see. That is already very stacked don't know who else would add to that mix

92- Sinclair, Mike Mach, Schultz, Plott. I would hope we see someone from 86 that can push Hidlay move up (Keck?) Does Brooks come back this year? Buchanan or Barr? Mirasola?

97- Aiello is the clear number 2 at this weight, Trumble maybe pushes him if hes healthy/can make 97 anymore. Unless Brooks shows up this weight doesn't matter because nobody is making Snyder sweat.

125- Parris or Gable are the big guys that could enter, otherwise this weight doesn't have anyone to push Wyatt. Of the current guys Thomas, Wood, Zilmer, and Hillger could all make Final X. Maybe some more college guys enter that would be good.

hoping at least one of Dake or chance drops to 79kg. I think Dake can beat Zahid I just personally don't have a lot of confidence that Evan wick will bring home a medal. Welsh may be able to get down as well for a one-time weigh in. I am not going to lie If brooks does not go 92 I am not overly confident with our team this year. The future is bright but I think there is a chance we do not medal at 65,70,74,79,92,125 depending on who shows up.

MM?

I think Dake is still adjusting to the weight and will be our rep at 86. Would prefer Marsteller back at 79 or JB or KOT at the weight. Agree that we'd have a stronger lineup with Brooks at 92.

I have to agree with your synopsis that the future is bright, but we do seem to be rebuilding a bit in several weights. We were spoiled a bit with 4 of the top six USA wrestlers of all time competing at the same time. Snyder still going strong and Dake will adjust to 86… not sure if Burroughs is done or not yet? Honestly I think there’s a better chance we see JB or Nolf at 79 than Dake or Chance. No way Dake concedes to Valencia IMO. Chance probably could go to 79 but he spent a lot of time bulking up to 86, so I doubt he wants to go backwards on that.

We always seem to have a first year team member burst onto the scene with a medal, so I think we do get at least one or two from the weights you listed. Mesenbrink took it to Carr who just beat Takatani, so he should medal. Hendrickson is certainly capable too. If we add in Brooks and Burroughs/Nolf that’s a pretty darn good team.

From my understanding, Nolf isn't qualified for WTT.

He is, he's a world team member at for 2023 and 2024. There are I think 3 or 4 WT members at each weight.

There are probably around 20-30 wrestlers qualified for each weight I assume. If you got a lot of free time you can make lists for each criteria - they are here

There is only 1 world team member. That's the person that competes at worlds. The national team is where multiple members exist.

Nolf never made a world team.  Only the guy who wrestles at UWW Worlds is the "World Team member".  One per weight.

I think you are confusing this with "national team" which is top 3 and get stipends, insurance, etc.  Nolf has done this.

Nolf was a 2024 National Team member.  He is qualified.  Team member is Top 3.

Its a pretty thin weight for us right now.  McKenna is tough but he's sort of a gatekeeper-type guy, who's now THE guy since no one can get past the gatekeeper.  Would be great to see someone suddenly explode to another level.  Would be fun to see Blaze here, or Gross.  I think Nick Lee has the best chance if he's been training and goes, with Mendez the leader of the younger crowd, but I don' see a medal here.

Hard to imagine this isn't Green vs Yianni again.  Duke is the only one I can see getting past Green, and that's a longshot.  Yianni can medal but he's so hot/cold.

Hard to see anyone beating Carr, but O'Toole could if he's healthy by then.  Or Haines, but not sure he wants to take on his teammate.  Another MM-Carr shootout will be great. A medal's plausible; about 50-50.

Can someone from 86kg please drop down?  We're weak here.  Wick is another gatekeeper-type guy who's paid his dues but not our strongest option.  Really it should be Dake since he's not an 86kg'er, and even if he can get by Zahid it's a sin for one of these 2 guys to stay home.  If Dake doesn't drop, maybe O'Toole or Haines? Starocci's too big right?  I'd love to see a Nolf or JB comeback too. JB never retired right?  No medal unless Dake drops or Nolf/JB makes a run, or maybe Chance.

22 hours ago, wrestlingfan22 said:

If no one drops (and assuming no Brooks), it's Dake v Zahid again.  If Dake drops, Keck/Chance battle for the right to challenge Zahid, although it would be cool if Starocci made a run as he'd be right there. McEnelly too.  Zahid can medal but man, he needs to get in shape, big-time.

Such a thin weight. Hidlay is good enough to medal, but not win.  I haven't heard the story on Brooks.  Why wasn't he at the Open and why is he an open question for WTTs?  Is he hurt?  I'm assuming he's at 92 since that's what everyone says, but I never heard him/NLWC say it.  Regardless, if he comes back, he wins this and medals. Otherwise, I don't see any other challengers here unless one of the 86kg'ers go up (e.g. Keck), Barr/Starocci show up at 92kg.

Obviously it's Snyder all day, but didn't Ferrari say he was going to wrestle freestyle in the offseason?  He's the only one I can see making things interesting.  (Barr's too small and I never heard of Buchanan doing freestyle.) Snyder should medal.

Is Parris hurt?  Hopefully he goes, and I always hope Gable shows.  I'm assuming Kerk won't be back from surgery yet.  If none of those go, Keuter's good enough to make Final X.  My guess is we see Parris/Wyatt, which could go either way, and the winner takes world bronze/silver.

I don't see either guy making the team, but I would really like to see PJ against Cardenas. I think Cardenas was in sad boy hours on the backside, but he looked incredible against parker who came back to take third and early against Yianni. I think James will find angles on PJ and will hang in the hand fight I give him a slight edge there. I really noticed how stuck Pj's feet get when he is not in control ties and I think James exploits that watching the Pantaleo match back last year it was similar to the miller match in that instance.
