Curious about active wrestlers where other active wrestlers (perhaps a bit younger - thinking camp experience) believe they would make a great coach.

Could be senior freestyle or greco guys too.

Not looking for distant speculation.  Looking for word from the troops that have experienced the teaching / coaching.

Some guys may be good wrestlers but don’t have the mix of skills to be a good coach.  Curious about those that have live reports that they’d make great coaches.

I have no inside info about anything. But…

In terms of technical skill, I was impressed by a number of athletes, including CStar, Hamiti, and KOT. Whether any of them want to coach, no clue.

It has to be technical wrestlers; the upper echelon chain wrestlers. I’m sorry, but what someone like Burroughs and Dake bring to the table doesn’t equate to premier coaching ability. Same for someone like Steveson. You can’t teach a kid how to be a freak athlete. They either are or they aren’t. Just my $.02.

I hope to see Zain embark on his own coaching path once he decides to hang 'em up. Hopefully as the former PSU athletes age out of competition we the nits embark on their coaching paths and can inject some excitement into some other programs.

Except Burroughs and Dake both have incredible technique. Early on, I agree Burroughs relied heavily on his athleticism. But everyone scouted his double and Father Time has caught up a bit. He diversified his technique tremendously and with all his international experience, I guarantee he knows a ton more technique that he doesn’t use (just knows how to defend it). Do you really think at 35, Burroughs still can compete with the best in the world only because he’s quicker and more athletic?

Dake has always had amazing technique. He is probably the best I have ever seen at being able to adapt to his opponent and change his technique/strategies to fit his opponent. That takes an incredible amount of technical knowledge. These guys are some of the best wrestlers we’ve ever had in the USA because they are freak athletes AND excellent technicians. You have to have it all to be that good

Retherford has started coaching. He was hired as an assistant at NLWC after he announced his retirement. This was just after Nick Lee got the PSU assistant position.

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

Cohlton Schultz for obvious, Greco-related reasons.

As long as he stays away from coaching folk. Most boring folk wrestler ever.

Isn’t Zain going to Wall Street?   Finance major and just got his mba (innovation and entrepreneurship) in 2024.   He should not throw that $$$ he will be making away imo.

He’s doing both.

Sorry to go off topic a bit but it was and is interesting to me the names listed for wanting to see coach.  Even most high level coaches in wrestling now.  Most are exceptional to great.  I can’t really think of another high level, or top level, sport that has the best of their sport coaching at the highest levels.  I’m sure there are a couple examples but for the most not the case.

Good luck to him.  that line of work and work life balance aren’t synonymous….. but he does know what hard work is.
