Quite different from Dan Gable.

Dan had a perfect record. Steveson does not.

Dan did not win Olympic Gold and then punk out on wrestling at worlds later.

Dan never, ever became a sport whore/rassl'n slob for dollars.

There is hope for Steveson but he made his own bed.

It is a fact though, no different than Dan Gable losing his last match. Gable Dan lost his as well

Yup. If he had stayed retired from NCAA wrestling his legend would be preserved. Now he lost to a guy who won’t even win an Olympic medal.

Thanks for what felt like the lone bright spot for awhile as a Minnesota fan. Sucks it ended this way. Hopefully Max sticks around for more fun. Congrats to Wyatt on his victory. Just life as a Gophers wrestling fan it seems.

The guy won an Olympic gold medal, and he might win more. I think Steveson coming back for another year added a lot of excitement to the HWT division and was good for college wrestling. I don't think his legacy is "tarnished", that's ridiculous.

Max will stick around and has a legit shot at multiple.

He’ll be fine.  Your right.  If he chooses to do a world / oly cycle he will be successful.  But his legacy as the super best most awesome dominant hwt of the history of earth bar none is over.

Just my take but Gable was only in it as it was his highest paying opportunity. He does credit Union commercials, will promote just about anything for a buck. His opportunities are running out for a payday. WWE is out, NFL is out, MMA is his last shot before getting a real job.

Mock Jimmy all you want, but he’s 100% correct. This changed the perspective, for all of us, on the unbeatable Steveson.

Tonight’s result was satisfying when reflecting on Steveson’s chronology:

* Wins two NCAA titles
* Wins Olympic gold in dramatic final 10 seconds.
* Walks away from amateur wrestling with big WWE payday - was actually training/promoting his WWE career while still in college.
* Fails at WWE
* Attempts NFL career and Fails
* Crawls back to NCAA wrestling in an attempt to resurrect his earning potential.
* NCAA makes him the centerpiece of their finals broadcast.
* Fails to deliver in his final NCAA bout.

My hope is that he'll use this as motivation to go all out for this upcoming quad.  For guys at his level, wrestling today is a real job, he could make as much or more money winning gold medals with stipends and endorsements as he could as an MMA novice. My guess is his MMA earnings potential just went down, which if so would be great news for us.  We had an awful 2024 at the world senior level, we could really use him back on the world teams, and if he were to put everything he has into it the results will be incredible.

No kidding. There was a segment saying that Gable was a super genius of wrestling, that he could destroy anyone in the world and the history of wrestling, would tech Milo of Croton, Medved, Karelin, and Taymazov on the same day without breaking  a sweat, and only over lost because he was a teenage puppy dog facing grown men. How can the mid 20s version of that lose to Hendrickson, who in the grand scheme of wrestling is very typical.

I think the USA flag was and effective stunt. It looked like it got to Gable. I guess Taylor is not a bad coach after all.
