This was the problem.  It felt like a make up call.  He escaped near the edge and was sprawling.

Agree with this. I thought the call could’ve/should’ve come much earlier if he was going to do it. The ref put himself in a spot where he ended up calling it in a situation that wasn’t actually stalling in my opinion. Can’t happen in a national championship match. Refs have to make the call when it’s appropriate and swallow the whistle when it’s not. (Coming from someone who’s far from an Iowa fan)

I really hope this isn't the case.. If it is, then that needs to change yesterday!

Implement the International rule, where if you lose a challenge you give up 1 point.

It can also be a cumulation of stalling for all of OT, and then getting shot out of bounds being the final straw to where to referee had to eventually do something.

I agree but refs need to just start calling stalling right away every time it happens... There will be an adjustment period for everyone but it would better for the sport..

It's impressive that the tanning bed still had some life after Lance Palmer

They will happily call stalling when it has no impact on the match…. 1 pt match with 20 seconds left and a guy has his running shoes on? They will never call it.

But not calling stalling when the guy is intentionally doing it to gain an advantage is impacting the match.

I get what you’re saying but you’re essentially making an argument for make up calls when stalling isn’t actually happening. Ayala wasn’t stalling there. He escaped and then sprawled immediately. You’d be hard pressed to find similar stall calls from the rest of the season in that exact situation. He stalled plenty the rest of the match- call it then.
