Add Hardell Moore to your list. He called the Big 12 early and non-final rounds. He is also excellent.

Burroughs is cringe. I keep waiting for him to mention that he beat Mesenbrink in the trials.

Yeah, but he didn't. In fact, he gave him a TON of credit, said he loved his attitude and then when Cormier(who...seems like he takes this a bit more casually and has a few beers while doing it) brought up their match, he gave him credit for just constantly attacking and his belief in himself(Mesenbrinks).

I think it's funny what people don't like in Wrestling. Aside from hearing the word "resilite," or anyone Scottish or who calls Wrestling a "fight," I can't say I've heard someone that bothered me.

Some of you are bothered by...a whole lot!

Not every great wrestler makes a great announcer. I don't hate Burroughs. I just don't like his color commentary skills.

Burroughs, Dan Gable, and John Smith have a ton in common.  Their wrestling obviously speaks for itself.

Much of this is their own self worth being intricately intertwined with performance in the sport.

It makes them bad commentators, because they can’t relate to and empathize with other wrestlers.  They just say “he shouldn’t have done that, I would have done something else.”

Burroughs is a tremendous wrestler.  Never came across as a dude I’d want to have long conversations with.

He’s so hyper competitive he expresses himself as self-centered and one-dimensional.

Almost like that’s what you have to be in order to be the very very best at something.

But, I agree 1000%.  Hidlay is so fun to listen to.  The finals always have trash commentators.

Burroughs dug a hole last season with more than a few fans during the NCAA tournament while calling a Starocci match. It may have been Shane Griffith. Starocci was competing with the bad knee and Burroughs said he would definitely  be attacking that knee.  I'm sure every Starocci opponent thought the same but the way he expressed it on camera was odd. I do remember Bo Nickal (the master of diplomacy) taking exception.

I repeat. I don't hate Burroughs. I just think there are better announcers for the sport.

I’m a UNC fan and have to say- Trent is incredible. He’s been professional, fair to every wrestler, and hasn’t shown any bias towards his past teammates. He also has done a great job breaking the action down for people that may not fully understand what’s happening. Shane has also done a great job this weekend helping Trent find his voice. Matcast has been really, really enjoyable.

I thought that was just nonsense.

I'm not a PSU fan...though often accused of one and I've argued...a LOT about how I think Starocci gets a lot less respect than he has earned, but...JB said NOTHING but the painfully obvious. I thought he said he'd shoot on the good leg and try and make him use the bag leg to push or defend with.

Suuuch a basic take and I didn't see anyone other than Bo Nickal whine about it. I actually thought it was more the Mitchell Mesenbrink match that got a little physical when the PSU fans booed him after he gave Mesenbrink an extra shove out of bounds(Which is ironic as Mesenbrink does that himself constantly).

I get what you're saying, that's why people don't like him, but I think it's just pettiness from PSU fans that I don't recall actually saying much on here.

Sparks has done a great job in utilizing Hidlay’s knowledge. I typically criticize Sparks for not knowing whether his role is play-by-play or color commentator. With Hidlay at his side, Sparks has done a great job of tossing Hidlay questions as set ups.

Classic examples being things like, “How would you wrestle through that position.” Together, they’ve managed to give both the layman and experienced fan insight that we rarely (if ever) have received before in an easily understood manner.

Trent is simply the best I have ever heard.  He knows everything about every wrestler.  He is under control and had eyes on all 8 or 6 mats.  Knew what happened when Sparks would ask him.  Really gives good insight on texhniques that I appreciate late being a basketball player who loves wrestling too.  Mat cast easily become the go to after checking it out Thursday morning.  Really hope he is back again, although being such a quality guy I am sure a program will want him on staff.

A PSU fan pitchin’ a fit over Jordan Burroughs is like a mama throwin’ a hissy ‘cause her little Mitchell Mesenbrink went and poked the ol’ grizzly at them Trials and got hisself shoved back... cryin’ and huggin’ her fancy necklace over a dang skinned knee... then hollerin’ louder’n a stuck hog when JB said he’d go after Carter Starocci’s bum leg like it’s an all-you-can-eat buffet night down at Joy Wok. Meanwhile, Burroughs is up yonder in the booth, slingin’ truth bombs like an all-I-see-is-GOLD big dog, while these fans are squallin’ like the tractor just pancaked their best sow. Reckon these Fantasy Land North Eastern PSU yahoos figure they can play lady mother hens, cluckin’ over a broke feather.  Grow up, ya sissified Happy Valley City Slickers wannabee Hayseeds!

Sparks/Hidlay have a way of explaining things that a casual fan could understand without talking down to hard core fans.  Plus they seemed to genuinely like each other.  One could imagine them going to dinner between rounds.

I think it's funny that anyone who thinks Burroughs is a terrible announcer is automatically a Penn State fan when it's actually anyone with a higher than room tempurature IQ.

Tom Brady is arguably the greatest football player in history.  He's an awful announcer.

That IS a touch line to walk. Cormier does not even attempt to. He's not suited to College Wrestling. He's really good at MMA, but he's just openly talking about his kids and cheering and having fun...which is cool, I like him, just not sure he's the BEST for the main broadcast.

I didn't hear Hidlay. What was he on?

I think Sparks is great(sans the stupid resilite references...). So as good as everyone says Hidlay is...sounds like a great duo.

Maybe go Sparks, Gibbons and then Hidlay. The play by play guy, the coach and old school and the guy more informed about the modern group of grapplers.

No one took excpetion. Nickal pretended to because he was mad no one was paying attention to him in that particular moment and hopped on twitter.

Thanks hoss. In all fairness to them Happy Valley hayseeds, it was crab night at the Wok... legs rippin’, butter spillin’, and them PSU crybabies still howlin’ like JB torched their last biscuit with his gold-medal gospel...
