In the press conference today, Gable said, "When [Starocci] wins Saturday night, he's gonna go out there and be a 5-time national champion and it's gonna blow the world up. Shout out to him"

Wonder how McEnelly feels about his teammate picking against him.

Weren’t they part of a special group of interviewees? What is he supposed to say? I’m sure deep down he’s hoping the best for Max while respecting Starocci.

CS is the favorite, but he's had a couple close matches this year. McEnelly actually took him down. I wouldn't be shocked if CS lost one of his stallmaster type matches where he's trying to squeak by. One last fluke TD is all that's needed. I wouldn't even be 100% shocked if Plott beat him, Plott has that weird style. Plus Keck took him to the limits both times they wrestled.

I give CS a 75% chance to win his 5th.

He wasn't asked to choose. He brought it up on his own. He started to say "if" and changed it to "when he wins". I just think it's weird to pick publicly pick against your teammate like that especially when no one asked.

Totally agree.

I've been defending and promoting Gable all year here.  But if that quote is accurate that was a big mistake by him.

He could have said something like that AFTER the finals but there's no defending saying it now.

Look, if his teammate was the 15th seed, we're all adults.  But their 184 pounder took Starocci down in the conference final and only lost in SV.  He's a legit title threat this week.

Gable has been extraordinarily gracious all year and I know he was trying to be so in praising Starocci, who isn’t in his league as a wrestler.  Zero malice involved here, quite the opposite.   But you gotta remember your teammate before saying something like that.

Ok...not trying to argue for Starocci again, but C'mon...Plott? Plott is not beating Starocci! I think whoever he sees in the finals can...they won't, but can(and I said before the B1Gs I thought McEnelly could take him down).

His two non-bonus matches have been VERY different. One was vs a Freshmen who went out there trying to WIN the match. The other was a Freshmen who went out there trying to not lose.

I think he's only had one close match...unless we're counting the All-Star Duel.

I give him about a 90% chance.

I think he beats Keck 9 of 10 and McEnelly 98/100. Those are the only two I think can beat him and I don't think Keck winning would be a huge upset. I do think this will be his toughest title since his 1st one as Keck is such a stud, there are a lot of era I think he's a 3X Champ.

3/3/2/1  123-5 with 3 losses to Brooks, 1 to Truax(he avenged for 3rd) and one to Hidlay who he beat 3 or 4 times after.

He also never took a RS. So just no Brooks, he's probably 1/3/1/1/?
But...that's not what happened.

Not weird at all - he says what’s on his mind and it’s obvious, he’s far from a team player. Imagine this clown behind the mic calling a match. Wrestling is all he has to offer. Nothing more.

Gave Carter a big head. Wants Carter to thank him. Then tells Max he needs to kick Carters *ss so the 5 year thing doesn't overshadow him.

I have a feeling Gable doesn't really feel much of a connection to McEnelly and has a lot more in common with Starocci.

Parker redshirted and went like 20-1 with his loss to Abe Assad (remember him?)

Can we ban Jimmy for just the next 5 days or so?

Now why would you want to do that. The guy contributes a lot and is largely responsible for alot of the very threads YOU and others participate in.

Yeah...because you're a troll and they're both black? You JUST had a guy who is at least familiar with the program tell you they're pretty close, but...yet, you follow up with this.

Jimmy knows better.

Ultimately, I really don't see a kid who is an undefeated Freshmen at 184 heading into the B1G finals, a tough weight...who has scored like he has...I don't think he's having any confidence issues. He's all good. Stevenson saying the guy who is the overwhelming favorite to win the weight isn't going to change how he performs.

It’s 100% weird to openly pick against your team.   He’s the 3 seed.  He took down Carter.  That’s madness to think otherwise.

If let’s say an Iowa wrestler picked someone else to beat their #3 seeded teammate who just gave said pick his best match of the season the internet would have crashed and al gore would admit to the public both man-bear-pig is fake AND he did not in fact invent the internet.

That’s why I said just for the next few days.  Most of the discussion should be around the actual wrestling.   We don’t need Jimmy’s “worst case scenario for PSU” or “Iowa could actually win” nonsense right now.

He does help stir up discussion in the offseason though

Ok....he redshirted. I stand corrected. It really doesn't materially impact ANYTHING...
