He was enrolled in college during covid, jtfc isn’t that enough to say he’s had enough taken from him already?

What has he had taken away from him besides this? It was the 2020 senior class that got screwed. He had four chances. (The fifth year was always a stupid idea)

Honestly I'm shocked that Gavin Hoffman still has eligibility either, but I don't think he's in the same exact situation.

I think it' pretty incredible that someone like myself, who spent a significant time combing through wrestlestat records over the years - had never identified this issue earlier.  It' remarkable that it took so long to uncover.

Really? Put yourself in this kid’s shoes and the answer becomes self-evident in half a second.

The 2020 seniors definitely got screwed the hardest though, no question.

If he's getting screwed it's by whomever at his school or on the coaching staff that told him he could have a fifth postseason. The free year was pretty clear, and he didn't use it. I really fail to see a screw job in the NCAA not allowing a fifth year for him. Seems like he is in the bracket, though.....

Everyone is hating on Thompson at 4 but I’m always gonna go to war for him. After the top 3 is just a cluster of guys and Kharchla/Norman had a chance for 4 and had awful weekends. Thompson beat Ruiz and Cassella. Ik he lost to Cramer twice early but he’s beaten him bad twice recently. They usually seem to reward guys wrestling better at the end of the season

If this were 15 years ago, I’d agree.  But at this point, all of these rules are pointless and arbitrary.

The NCAA is simply a hollow leach of a media rights brokerage.  The shine is off the moral superiority of amateur athletics, I see no reason for the NCAA to exist for any reason other than convention and “we need something to call ourselves”.  These rules just exist so donks in suits can continue to have their hooks in young people trying to pursue a passion.  That’s disgusting.

I would be very happy if the NCAA acronym disappeared, and men’s wrestling fell under the same acronym as women’s wrestling.

If they were that relevant someone would’ve noticed this months ago. Would this ever happen at a B1G school?

Nope, they were too busy with the gambling scandal?

Nah - we can still reign this in.

Limit redshirts to actual injured kids. Limit Oly redshirts to only elite wrestlers. Problem solved.

I don't disagree regarding the NCAA. It's a multi billion dollar a year business built on slave labor. But, I still don't see the screw job on a school trying to blatantly wrestle a kid with no eligibility left. It's been crazy times since 2020, but every other kid that didn't use the free year packed up and moved on with their life after their 4 years of competition were completed. There is no way he and the staff didn't know he exhausted his eligibility, therefore, no screwjob if he gets booted. If they let him wrestle, then whatever, but some other kid is missing their opportunity at being an NCAA qualifier. Is that not a screwjob?

Yeah this wouldn’t even really open that much can of worms.  It basically would only apply to people that redshirted during the “free year,” which was very few people…because it was a free year.

Expand

I forgot the main can of worms it would open would be with the Ivy League since they did not compete in 2021…

I agree Brennan should not be allowed to wrestle. The school should’ve known the situation. I don’t agree that the alternate should get in in this situation though. Wouldn’t all his matches be considered FF wins for his opponents then? So the PAC12 runner up should get in

Who? I see four pages here and you may be the only person who mentioned him...:classic_dry:

Go Bobcats! Athens Ohio, one of the most beautiful campuses in the country.

Willie is fired up on Twitter about it.

The only person getting screwed is the Pac 12 runner up and OSU if they are not given the Pac 12 title.

Little Rock misapplied the rule, shame on them, but it was a mistake.  Nobody knew who Brennan was, but now they do. He isn't going to AA anyway and by ruling him out, he can claim to be a qualifier who "could of won it" if it weren't for those pesky rules.

Do you have an opinion on the NCAA not giving the bid to the Pac 12 kid who will retroactively be the Pac 12 champ at 174?

I guess it would depend on who earned the spot for the conference in the first place. If it was him- then it goes to the next person in whatever conference would have been the next at the weight across the country. If not him then it probably should go to the next person in that conference.

He won the conference so it was an auto qualification

I didn't look at the allocations until now. They only got 1? The one could have been earned by someone or given by default. But I guess in that case (that I didn't consider earlier) it should go to the 2nd in the conference assuming that person would be the champ now.
