Does a kid actually have to enter the portal to move schools?  According to Damien Hahn the Iowa kids just showed up in his office asking to join the team and we’re never in the portal.

This is from the NCAA from a case where a Wisconsin FB player wanted to enter the portal and Wisconsin wouldn't allow it. So he went to Miami anyway.

The NCAA issued a statement Friday saying that "NCAA rules do not prevent a student-athlete from unenrolling from an institution, enrolling at a new institution and competing immediately."

The key is are they recruited by the staff. That would be illegal. (No, i'm not going to get into the debate about back channeling and all that.)

This explains how Iowa landed all these grad transfers the last few years without them ever being in the portal.  Pretty genius move by the Brands, have to give them credit for working the back channels...

See ya.   Most inconsistent wrestler ever... can wrestle a top five ranked guy really close and then get majored by a guy ranked 20 or higher

The only high ranked guy he stay close with is McEnelly. He struggles against short Kings. Also went to OT against Gabe Arnold. McEnelly does well against tall guys.

Hence the reason Hahn was quick to point out how the Iowa kids showed up on their own in his office.

I’m assuming “walk on’s” can still earn schollies and $

I think because they are a walk on they can’t get a scholarship but the easy fix is extra NIL to cover the scholarship amount

Definitely if he can keep 157. I think I read somewhere that he is wanting to go up to 165 though which would make Iowa a weird destination

165 was speculated when VT brought in Miller but he never had any weight management issues at 157

I think wrestlestat had Hip penciled in at 165 for next season’s very early rankings  fwiw. Hate to see him go though. His ceiling is so high

Hipolito in with a DNC designation. My guess is even closer to home, maybe Maryland.

This sucks.  I will puke if he goes to Iowa.
