55 years of paying full taxes to this bloated, inefficient, wasteful and corrupt federal government hasn't done any of us regular citizens any good.

Then you should refuse social security when you retire.

You shouldn't call the police, fire department, use hospitals, drive your car on public roads, use public transportation, eat anything FDA approved, etc. You can apparently get by fine without all that then.

Federal taxes don't pay for local services but you know that.

Social Security is my money. Myself and my employer HAaE PaID in 13 CEnTS FoR EVeRY DOLlAR i HAvE EvER MAdE. So the government isn't giving me anything. Had I been able to invest that money it would be close to a million dollars right now.

I have never called the Police, or the fire Department and If I did it is paid by my local taxes. I pay (road) tax on every gallon of gasoline for my roads. My health insurance pays for some of my doctor bills, I pay for the rest. I raise my own vegetables, eggs and beef (meat). I don't use public transportation I have my own vehicles.

Looks like a Hawaiian road crew.   Saw this in my neighborhood many times.   5 guys, 4 standing around, 1 patting asphalt into the pot hole.   That fix lasted all of 6 weeks.   Job security.

Omg.  I have a pic somewhere from my balcony.  13 city workers watching one guy work.   Made me livid.  City workers are some of the most institutionalized unionized …..   arg don’t get me started lol.    I’ve said before.  We may need doge more for city / local gov than we do for federal.   I’m half not joking.  Especially how their pensions are bankrupting cities.   Especially blue cities.

My father in law worked for construction firms for years and years, and then for himself.   Then he got a job at the city and couldn't believe how many people did nothing.   It bugged him a lot.   But he got all the OT he wanted and was dependable and could think about solutions to problems.   But he hated the city work ethic.

Why did he take the pay cut?

I never asked him why he did that.   He was a specialty equipment operator and was underpaid for most of his adult life.   My wife grew up very poor.   He worked like a dog and had very little to show for it.  She just told me the city paid better, had better benefits, better hours, no work away from home.  He was grateful for what he learned in the private sector but did not like the outfit.   They paid crap and sent him everywhere, no vacation or sick leave.   It was a bare bones operation.  It worked out for him.

Nice story, but in reality govt work pays worse than pvt sector for the vast majority of jobs. Maybe it was different a few decades ago.

Ha.   I think you’re wrong.  But if you are right … Maybe they shouldn’t cry they’re getting fired to go find better jobs in the private sector then ?   Or are some of them not qualified?

Depends on the contractor I guess.  Generally I would agree with you, but his daughter just gave me the scoop.   I trust her knowledge.   He started just before we got married.   So for me, he always worked at the city.

People have different priorities and values. Most public sector workers don't have salary as their #1 priority. If they do., they dont stay long.
