The general consensus in the Wisconsin wrestling community is that it is time for Bono to move on.  However, unless the university/collective/et al figure out a way to raise the funds to be competitive, the Badgers wrestling program is dead; it just doesn't know it yet.

Badger meets come with little energy.  While the wrestlers on the team give their best, the difference in talent level between the Badgers and most of the rest of the BIG is more than evident.  Pretty sure that the Hawkeyes brought more fans to the meet than the home team did.

That's sad...they know that comments will be unfavorable for someone's birthday, so they turn them off. And they're paying the guy tons of money to run a program...

So what is the problem, really? Is it truly Bono, bad administration, or lack of NIL funds, or...? Meaning, will replacing him make a significant difference for the program (with, say, Max Askren)? Or do they need better administration? More NIL money? What would it take to make them relevant and fill the seats? Clearly they'd have a great pipeline with AWA down the road, but is it culture or money that is turning those kids to other programs?

Donny Pritzlaff was always rightful heir to the Wisconsin throne. Wisconsin is getting bad karma for choosing Bono over him.

Except that Donny burned that bridge when he interviewed at Michigan (without permission) while still under contract at Wisconsin.

Craig Henning got screwed in the 2007 NCAA Finals.

It didn't have to be a burned bridge. Wisconsin could have forgiven him.   I'd argue hiring Bono has been far worse for Wisconsin's program than Donny interviewing somewhere without permission.

What happens if they fire Bono and still don't land an Askren to replace him?

Donnie interviewed for a lateral position at Michigan.

I'm not disagreeing with you, I'm just providing background for the reason Donny isn't at UW.

Why would you excuse a turncoat? He betrayed the program, let him go & don't look back.

As for Chris Bono, there are many other options if they are actually looking.

I'm not trying to troll here, but just because it may have the same or a similar title doesn't necessarily mean it's a lateral move.

It might have even been a less than lateral move, because he went from Associate Head Coach at UW to Assistant Coach at Michigan.

He was also promised the HC job at UW, but was told no because Alverez thought it wouldn't be good to remove a coach that just won a team trophy. The team that won the trophy was built by Donny and Jared Frayer, Davis was just the "figure head"

I'd be pissed too and go interview with a rival.

And Davis just won National Coach of the Year.

Can you expand on this? Are you saying there isn’t much financial support outside of what the university puts into the program?

Is going from Wisconsin to Michigan, same job position, really "lateral"?

The RTC brought in about 1.4 million from 2016-2022 and the actual budget is top 20 in the country. The excitement was there for a brief period but really started to fall off once they missed every elite in state recruit in the class of 2024. 2023 revenue for the RTC dropped $60k.

Take a look at the WI forum and you'll see that even the staunch Bono supporters are starting to turn.

This was about 2011 and Wisconsin was a top 4 team.  Donnie went from Associate Head coach to assistant head coach.  So it was at most a lateral move.
