I feel like the plan was to put out Ferrari against Starocci, McEnelly, and guarantee they keep Arnold away from Starocci at Big Tens, go into NCAAs with one loss, stay away from Starocci, make the finals, and on the whole thats win for Iowa (it even kind of vindicates Arnold because its hard to say its not a real rivalry if its in the NCAA finals).

Unfortunately Silas beating Arnold (and as convincingly as you can in the context of an overtime match), pretty much blows up that plan. Do they put in Arnold, hoping he can get the upset and get operation "lose in the finals" back on track? I think so.

Thats my take what do you guys think.

I prefer Arnold. I think McEnelly will get to legs and finish twice if not more on Arnold.

Ferrari… all bets are off. I think it’d be a 1 take down 4-1 match that could go either way.

Unless Arnold has a lingering injury I don't understand why you don't give him as many reps as possible. Let the chips fall where they may.

But, man, McEnelly looks dangerous and awesome

because it matters to the brand if they can get him in the finals, and he ain't doing it as a 4,5,8,9 seed. They're gonna control everything they can, no more loose chips than absolutely necessary.

Right now he needs a signature win just to get the #3 seed at Bigs.

They don't need Ferrari this weekend.  They may need him next weekend against Plott.  Plus the Plott outcome a good opportunity to reconsider who goes at b10.

Burning Ferrari's redshirt this year would be one of the most colossal blunders in Iowa wrestling history

We can only hope.  🙂

What's the average amount of time a Ferrari spends at any one school?

This is why losses are over-valued and wins are undervalued in the current seeding criteria. The fact that this type of plan could even exist is a disgrace to the integrity of college wrestling. Guys should have more to gain from wrestling tough opponents than from ducking them.

Ethen Lofthouse
In 2013, Lofthouse, a two-time All-American, was cited for shooting a duck with a bow and arrow outside his residence. The Iowa Department of Natural Resources also filed additional charges against him for illegal hunting.

Connor Ryan and Alex Meyer
In 2013, Ryan and Meyer, two freshmen wrestlers, were cited for hunting rabbits on campus after hours. They were also cited for discharging toy guns and slingshots.

Sam Stoll

''As I shared previously, Sam Stoll's health was our number one concern and he is doing well,'' coach Tom Brands said Friday. ''I am disappointed in his actions related to this incident, as they do not reflect our values.''

The plan blew up in their face with Silas Allred.  To avoid Starocci until the finals at Bigs he's now forced to wrestle McEnelly for a chance at the #3 seed

Pretty sure there was a racoon out back of CHA as well.  Tom & Terry are pheasant hunters so ...

Gabe's best win on the season is a tie-breakers win over #10, and he just lost to #7. If Ferrari has a good showing against Plott you don't think there's a decent chance that the Brands would use him rather than roll the dice that Arnold AAs, let alone finishes on the top half of the podium? They likely aren't getting many points at 125, 141, 174, or 285. If Arnold loses in the R12 that's half their line-up probably combining for 10-15 points at NCAAs. It's not going to help recruiting if Oklahoma State beats them in DT's first year as coach.

If you're intelligent and trying to maximize your ROI as a team and for the individual wrestler you don't burn his shirt when Plott, Keck, and Star all exit the stage after this year.

Generally I agree with this, and up until this weekend I thought it would be a complete waste to burn his shirt this season. That was when I thought that Gabe was likely the 5th best guy in weight, and Ferrari might not be able to finish any higher this year. If Ferrari wrestles well against Plott, or if he was able to win, then I think it might be best to go ahead and use him while you can. No Ferrari has even stayed at one school for four years, let alone five. Smoke'em if you got'em. It's not like they're going to be a better team next year.

Gabe is the guy, except where they must/need to put the best team on the mat (without killing Angelo's RS). Meaning Angelo might be winning the room. I think Word gets around, I say Starocci wasn't just guessing. I'm guessing Gabe would have weighed in and might have got to wrestle since the match over if he wasn't being disciplined for stoking a fire. I think the Brands really wanted to see how far Star was above Gabe/Angelo and not killing Gabes seed.

As an aside, the first week in January, Terry told me if Gabe wasn't dinged they would've let them wrestle the SS final.

now that he's alright, Sam Stoll's goofy butt getting Dick Cheney'd is one of the funniest things ever.
