Italian Army award -Angelo the clear winner. On his knees and crawling away while not once placing his opponent close to any danger.  He bored the crowd, his opponent and the refs.   Angelo would back away on his knees whenever Carter walked toward him, would only get off his knees once Carter had forward motion to engage and would give ground when Carter tied up.

Refs recognized Angelo's artificial engagement and called the match perfectly.

However, Carter wrestling down to his opponents lack of effort is a data point against him regarding the Hodge.  He should do better next time now that he's seen the tactic.

Did Arnold delete his x account yesterday?

Here is the Iowa wrestling account tagging it (evidence it was his handle), and several folks tagged it last night criticizing him, but it no longer exists.  IIRC I believe he did quote one of the clips of his comments earlier in the week and wrote “see you soon”

Or maybe he has a different one without 174 in the handle?

I actually liked how Iowa competed,

Tom disagrees.

The comment that Arnold will be the 184 and “we’re going to use Ferrari’s 5 dates and not against cupcakes” makes it even more odd that he wrestled attached at the Soldier Salute.  Unless that still counted as first semester?

Pretty sure he posted from it this week, so would be interesting timing.  Not to mention you can change your handle and searches for the old handle will still return the new one, which was not the case here (I found this out when I was 98% certain that I found the drunk NLWC Burroughs hater).

Although I certainly wouldn’t blame Gabe for getting off of x.  Definitely lots of toxicity on there and I’m sure many of the posts directed at him last night were not pleasant, and not much good can come from middle aged men trash talking teenagers.

Amen to that second paragraph.

As I said earlier he still had a ways to go, but 7:40 and 1:45 were probably closer than almost anyone has gotten to taking down Starocci, and both were off of Ferrari’s own shots.

Diving in on a head inside single is High School which for being a true freshman is expected.  But, that doesn't show he has the ability to score on Starocci.

In the 7:40 one he even lifted him up for a fraction of a second.

Considering this was his second ever match against a D1 starter, I think if he was the guy at 184 and got more matches under his belt that I wouldn’t be surprised if he took Starocci down.  But alas, it appears it is not to be.

Super senior, 4x' er, on the best team in the country, best coach, best workout partners, at home in bryce jordan center in prime time, against true freshman and technically their backup, and NO TD'S? Where's the speration? Maybe an off night...

The three biggest takeaways I have from the dual.

1. Brands spent several millions of dollars and could not close the gap. His frustration after the dual was palpable.

2. Where Iowa wrestlers look as though they are grinding and exerting maximum effort, PSU wrestlers look relaxed going thru positions.

3. That Kasak photo is gonna go viral among young age group wrestlers. Some of the top kids in the country were in attendance last night and that moment was kind of iconic.

To be fair, according to the numbers floating around, Iowa spent slightly more  on Buchanan + Teemer + Parco combined than PSU spent to bring Starocci back.  Iowa probably got a better bang for their buck TBH

They increased their point totals at those weights for sure. How many points would they score without those guys?

A whole lot less. Buchanon/Parco are probably good for 20 points at NCAAs, and Teemer maybe 15-20 points. The scrubs for Iowa at those weights might score 3 points at NCAAs between them, assuming all of the backups qualified. So, figure Iowa's predicted point score at NCAAs would be 52-57 less than it is now (119), so 67-72 points (5th place in tournament rankings).

So money would naturally go farther when you are starting at 67 points as opposed to 172 points. The gap is smaller in the tournament sense, but they are still a long ways away and the dual still went 8-2 in PSU favor.

Nick Saban said it's not how much you are paying,  it's who you are paying..

If not for the uniform I never would have guessed that was an Iowa wrestling.

Yup, plus for PSU Starocci coming back forced Cochran to the bench who probably could have been a mid to low AA at 197.

That's assuming Ryder doesn't get the nod at 84.

Hawkeye report in panic mode

Multiple comments in match thread accusing PSU of “strength training,” which for some apparently even includes something illegal to help their conditioning

Comments from people wanting to move on from the Brands bros, but that doesn’t seem super uncommon on there

People (rightfully) afraid that OSU will pass Iowa

One guy in literally the same post that he listed one of Cael’s accomplishments being an Olympic Gold medal, said he was a “nobody on the world stage” (to be fair other posters are saying that post was dumb)

Thread: “how much will it cost to keep Ferrari,” includes comments that Kueter is getting $500k and was allegedly offered $800k to quit football completely and declined

Another interesting tidbit, multiple posters claiming that the reason Arnold left the bench before 184 is because there was heckling from PSU fans.  One poster said it included “vulgar” remarks and that some fans were kicked out

Thats a head scratcher. He has been in that wrestling room for 6 years now with the best coaches in the country. He will be a 5 time NCAA Champ. Couldn't score any offensive points or takedowns.
