I see that both Intermat and Flo have Iowa 22 points better than Oklahoma State in the race for 2nd place. Seems high to me and that this gap should start to narrow. Thoughts?

Probably, but still I would guess you'd take Oklahoma State and 22 points vs Iowa in a tournament. But maybe not.

Yes I think OSU looks like the better tournament team.

Iowa has potential finalists at 133, 157, 165, and 197.  Iowa has other mid to high AA candidates at 149, 174, and 184.

OK State has potential finalists at 174 and HWT.  OK State has other mid to high AA candidates at 125, 141, 165 (maybe), and 184.

I think the spread is fair in a tournament setting, although Ok State has a good shot at winning the dual if both teams are fully healthy.

It is because Ayala, Parco, and Buchanan all moved up a spot on Intermat and the first two moved up on Flo.

Haa, Penn State nowhere to be seen, obviously they suck.  (Do not expand the graph north, please.)

Both have choked in recent years so it may be difficult to predict.   That said, OSU does have a new coaching staff so that may be a difference.

What's the last date by which Iowa can buy new players ... week before b10?

Exactly.  Which program will have the deepest pockets to buy wrestlers going forward?  Deep pockets of farmers vs deep pockets of energy sector.  Gotta wonder what would happen if Walton family were U of Ark Little Rock fans.  Sure glad the grandsons are mountain bike enthusiasts.

Ohio State's success on Monday will pique the interest of a few deep pocketed alums, I think.

I think OSU still has a lot of work ahead of it to surpass Iowa. I got it with bad guys winning 18-14. I'm picking Arnold to upset Plott.  I think Arnold has probably improved more than Plott has over the last year. But many of these guys have wrestled before.

125 Spratley vs Cruz  3-0

133 Ayala dec Hughes 3-3

141 Jamison dec Rhodes  6-3

149 Parco dec Young      6-6

157 Teemer dec Fish 6-9

165 Caliendo dec Amine 6-12

174 Hamiti dec Kennedy 9-12

184 Arnold dec Plott 9-15

197 Buchanon dec Surber 9-18

HWT Hendrickson MD Kueter 14-18

The latest tournament rankings at Wrestlestat have Iowa 37 points ahead of Okie State, and Ohio State is breathing down Okie State's mullet-covered neck just 2.6 points behind.

Wrestlestat has some unique views on a couple of teams.

image.thumb.png.a438e8464c673bd59ac88126f3f84dc7.png

  • Iowa - they have Teemer out for the year. Meanwhile he is listed on the team sheet for Friday.
  • Oklahoma State - they penalized Spratley much more than the other two for his terrible, horrible, no good, very bad week.
  • Ohio State - they remain very optimistic about Nic Bouzakis', Sammy Sasso's, and Nick Feldman's prospects.
  • Cornell - they still have Greg Daikomihalis at #5 in spite of reports that he is out for the year (Intermat has him #17, Flo removed him).
