Since David Taylor arrived, the Cowboys have nearly matched the aggression of the Nittany Lions.  A lot of good teams out there with guys who wrestle very conservatively.  Leaves them vulnerable to an upset, IMO.  If you truly believe yourself to be better than your opponent, you want to open up the match as much as possible so you have wrestling opportunities to demonstrate this belief.  That philosophy resonates with me.

Completely agree. Askren has talked about this a lot. The lesser wrestler wants to keep the exchanges as few as possible. I made the statement after the VT dual, and a lot of people still said it was too early to give much credit to the new coaching staff for their performance, but every dual you see guys hunting for bonus, looking to separate themselves from their opponent. I'd like to see more pace from Spratley, and I think in his 6th year, you just have to accept Amine for what he is. OKST is a lot of fun to watch this season, and I think the mindset of scoring points rather than just doing enough to win is going to make a difference in March. But, of course, we'll see.

Feel like the top 3 at heavyweight is set. Who do you think will end up 4-5

Depending on health, I would pick Feldman and Bastida, but I like Trumble too. And yes, I watched the All-Star Classic.

I think Feldman was hurt for that match but we will see. He’s looked great since coming back

Excited to see where DT has this program in a few years

In a few years?  They are looking pretty darn good right now.  They just cleaned the clock of N. C. State, 34-3.

They are 8-0 with 7 of those wins permitting only  6 points or less to the opposing team, with the remaining win only allowing 9 points.

In every match, they have scored more than 30 points.

They also won the Cliff Keen Invitational.

At every weight, they are ranked in the top 20, including 7 guys in the top ten.

And they are ranked 3rd overall as a team.

Not bad.  I'm looking forward to their match with Iowa on Feb. 23rd.

I think they look great right now and I think they’re #2. But I mean when DT gets some recruits in bc I think he will be able to recruit at the same level as PSU

Yeah that’s just because wrestlestat overvalues Sasso a lot but that’s a unique situation

Wrestestat adds in a component based on previous success, but Sasso is up two weight classes. He's wrestling guys who are mostly stronger than he is now. I think Sammy is an R16 guy this year, R12 at best.

He just wrestled at 157 against Rutgers, FWIW. Won 3-2 against Harer.

Yeah but now he's down to 157.

Honestly Sasso is overranked at 157 too.  Love the kid, but I doubt he's top 20.  Arrington had him tech-pinned and looked like he could tech him a second time if he had all 7 minutes.  Rooting for him to get back into form and I dig the story arc, but I think we all should just accept he's not there yet.  He can't be loving that fans have this look of surprise every time he doesn't win a match against a lesser opponent.  Not sure he deserves the starting spot over Gallagher but I'll let the OSU people figure that one out.

fish vs ed is going to have at least 4 throw attempts in it no idea who comes out on top in those exchanges. I think my favorite matchups are matty singleton and Hamiti and hopefully v rob vs spratley if v rob goes.

good calls. I didn't expect Hamiti Singleton to be so close.

So I agree overall. I think the first step with Sasso this year is trying to forget who Sammy was before the tragic incident and just acknowledge that with the immense damage his body suffered and the brutal recovery process, he is simply not capable of being the same wrestler that he was before. His wrestling mind, knowledge of positions, etc., are obviously among the best in NCAA wrestling, but his body just isn't able to cooperate the same way as it used to.

I do think he is in the top 20 at 157 (I think the size at 165 made it much less likely for him to be so at that weight). But I think he is also learning to some extent on the fly of what he can and cannot do outside the safety of the practice room. I don't imagine anyone is rooting for anything but a full recovery for Sasso, but the best we can realistically do is withhold expectations and just be happy for him that he is capable of competing as a D1 wrestler again, regardless of what happens the rest of the season.

Singleton's ability to get to legs was promising. He still has some things to clean up, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him high on the podium or in the finals before his career is over.
